Geithner agrees to stay at Treasury, continue Obama's amazing economic policies
Los Angeles Times ^ | Andrew Malcolm

Finally, some promising economic news in what has been a steady recent stream of dismal data and developments:

Secretary of the Treasury Tim Geithner has agreed to stay in the Obama administration.

The master of finance who has so successfully assisted President Obama in boosting the national debt by more than $3 trillion, driving unemployment back north of 9% by spending only $787 billion in stimulus funds, corroding consumer confidence and presiding over the first federal credit downgrading in history has agreed to stick around to continue his impressive work for this Democratic administration.

Geithner is the sole survivor of President Obama's opening economic team. Obama is reported pleased.

....The White House confirmed Geithner's continued employment and Sunday he said, "I love my work." Geithner added," We still have a lot of work to do." Which could be a promise or threat.

I think the Fox News morning crew had it about right. If Turbo Timmy goes, Obama will be under immense pressure from his base to nominate a fire-breathing Marxist like Paul Krugman or somebody. He just does not want to deal with that right now.

That’s what I was thinking... The Los Angeles Times in California put this in the paper?

From article

The continued tenure of a treasury secretary who couldn't file his own accurate income taxes before being appointed should only help further.

..truth mixed with a view into progressive logic?

I think a lot of the article is more tongue-in-cheek, rather than satire.

Yeah...I know what you mean. Is this satire? I can’t tell — after all, it’s coming from the LA Times.

But then again, I never heard of the author, because I never read the paper any more — and I’m a guy who used to read the morning AND afternoon editions back in the 70s and 80s.

So the idea that this may not be satire puts a strain on my cognitive dissonance.

But maybe...just maybe...

Geithner added," We still have a lot of work to do." Which could be a promise or threat.

Ahhhhhh......now I see.....half sarcasm, half satire, half truth.

Yeah, yeah. Just say I raised the fraction ceiling.

But then again, I never heard of the author,

Media Matters and Salon, among others, hate his guts.

Andrew Malcolm's immigrant parents repeatedly stressed the importance of active participation in a democracy. Early lessons included learning the alphabetical list of states by watching televised roll calls of national political conventions.

That childhood exposure led to a lifelong fascination with politics, including 40-plus years of covering them and a brief stint practicing them as press secretary to Laura Bush in 1999-2000.

A veteran foreign and national correspondent, Malcolm served on the Times Editorial Board and was a Pulitzer finalist in 2004. He is the author of 10 nonfiction books and father of four.
