We’ve got a 5th Wheel “Toy Hauler” with a built in generator, fuel point, air compressor and large fresh water tank. I’ve often remarked to my wife that the only possible improvement would be a armored turret with a 50 caliber machine gun.

Isn’t it nice to know you’ll have a good seat when the show starts?

;-D

I made a peanut butter and jelly sandwich and put it in a baggie. I’m set.

That's not good enough. You also need a refreshing, yet tasty, beverage and a piece of fresh fruit. You should also consider a small bag of chips.

There’s a National Guard camp (currently in use) between me and the most likely source of trouble. Somehow, I’m just not all that concerned.

We’re not doing anything more than we already have been doing for years.

I guess I should first say that I am not a Mormon, but we would not be required to leave our home for as much as 6 months. It would not be fun, but life would certainly be survivable.

I live on 5 acres at the top of my mountain. We are about 15 minutes from the nearest town of about 20k people in a county of about 60k. The closest large city is over an hour drive and Seattle is 3 hours away.

Our greatest risk would be if supplies stopped coming to our peninsula for extended period of time. I do need certain medications, so over time I have managed to hoard a quantity of the more important meds.

Over a year ago we started raising chickens. I now raise ducks and geese... we are well covered with food.

I seldom go anywhere without being armed anyway. I also have a very loving and friendly German Shepherd dog, that seems to want to always be sure that I am safe. He loves people, but he love me MUCH more. ;>)

I could go on and on.

I do feel for the good folks that live in very populated areas... it’s could get much worse for them.

Before I retired one of my assignments was that of a Search & Rescue Coordinator. Most of the folks I brought back to safety were unprepared. The ones that came back in body bags were generally the least prepared.

All a guy can do.... is all a guy can do.

The graveyard is full of people who only had a small bag of chips. A candy bar is a real snack.

...Because it's just silly to reach for the same snack more than once...

lol. Northern Cali, by any chance? Near San Fran? I’m in NJ, but the NW corner, which is very red-county. Hunters, sportsman, contracters. We all moved out here to get away from typical NJ BS, and so far it’s worked.

I agree. Even in the end times, I refuse to eat a sandwich without a side of chips....and a pickle!

I may have misunderstood you when you posted “leaving more lights on” but, IMHO, as a trained sniper with the 82nd ABN 1/508th Bn, never leave lights on where you and your family could be left exposed by any lights and gunned down by someone outside your house.

Stay safe and know, we have your backs!

Holy crap ! I know my mutts would too, and enjoy every minute of it.

Hell, they’d fight each other to grab stuff to drag out.

Too funny, thanks for the laugh.

Bobby’s Burger Palace, have you been ?

I swear, it’s the best burger ever. Bergen center mall. Right next to whole foods.

Good thought. At least 4 RVN vets on block.

So long as you're on the subject of doing drills, it doesn't hurt to reach out to your neighbors. Four to twelve armed adults working together on their own turf turn a bad situation into just another squad defensive position. Organized resistance makes the difficulty level for troublemakers skyrocket fast.

Recruiting really isn't that hard, either. Its amazing how little anyone bats an eyelid to this sort of thing anymore. Earthquake preparation / zombie infestation talk is a nice code for those that aren't quite psychologically 'there' yet.

I like having many levels of response ready at all times. Nothing strange about it at all. Same as having a fire extinguisher and a hose around. May not need them but if I do and they aren’t handy, life becomes a bitch quickly.

I think we’ve got a whole neighborhood of those “not yet ready”.....including one guy who gave GHW Bush his Security Briefing upon his inauguration for President...BUT, I’m pretty sure he’d be a “friend” in bad times.

You didn’t supply enough information. Do you live in or near a high crime area? Have there been any incidents of mob violence near your home? Have you or your neighbors noticed an increase of suspicious activity in your neighborhood?

You’re on defense—a weaker position. You have limited resources, and you can’t possibly predict or prepare for every form of attack. That means you need to prioritize. What are the most likely threats, and which will do the most harm? That’s what you should concentrate on.

I haven’t. I rarely venture out of Sussex County, and when I do, I go north or west. Never east or south, unless you pay me.

When in my home, both outer and inner doors are locked. 140-lb Black Lab/Great Dane cross (spayed female) and two 130-lb Rottweilers (complete males) always in house. Wherever I am in the house, I am never more than 10 steps away from no fewer than 6 loaded, chambered weapons. Revolvers, double and single action autos, shotguns and rifles (which one(s) I grab would depend on the immediate threat assessment).

Special planning for middle of the night protocals and routines. House on top of hill with 360-degree 100 yard killing field on a 30% uphill incline to reach it. All windows & doors other than auto-doored garage-under are on second floor, requiring 13 stairs with 180-degree turn landing to access. Eight hidden cameras surveilling/taping all exterior vantage points 24/7 on 48-hour DVD loop.

Several other intruder detection devices in place that I'd never risk making public. Two that even the wife doesn't know about.

Nobody's gets in unless I want them in, nobody gets out unless I allow them to leave.

Word to the wise: don't even think it.
