When Newsie explains Perry’s problems rather than take irrelevant pot shots at SP and her supporter, he’ll matter. Till then. not so much.

So lets hear it. Are the issues legit or not Newsie? Can no one question Perry as people question Palin? I learned alot today about Perry. Wasn’t gonna vote for him before over Guardasil but now I know he’s no better than Romney.

And he flat out LIED about Gore to our face. Palin never has.

Gore WAS goofy Ozone Hole Man back then, when Perry was enamored of him. You’re making flimsy excuses. Bob

as well as boosting of technological and computer accomplishments. Gore claimed he invented the internet “during my service in the United States Senate”, rather than the year it had actually been invented (1969, when Gore was stil in college)

Al Gore made his internet comments in 1999, which was WELL AFTER the 1988 election. He also didn't say he invented the internet, he said he took the initiative in creating the internet. It was just fun to mock him for it.

In 1989, while still a Senator, Gore published an editorial in the Washington Post, in which he argued: “Humankind has suddenly entered into a brand new relationship with the planet Earth. The world’s forests are being destroyed; an enormous hole is opening in the ozone layer. Living species are dying at an unprecedented rate”.

In 1990, Senator Gore presided over a three-day conference with legislators from over 42 countries which sought to create a Global Marshall Plan, “under which industrial nations would help less developed countries grow economically while still protecting the environment.”

Both those citations, obviously important for you to post as they are the first real public revelation of what would later become "Mr Global Warming", both took place AFTER 1988.

Most of us knew this about Perry a long time ago. This isn’t a bombshell to people who are paying attention to Perry and trying to figure out if he should be supported.

Gore always has been a rabid eco nut. Warming, cooling, owls or acid rain read his books. I have.

Most never heard the term ‘global warming’ in the 80s...or if they did, cared much. The 80s were no hotbed of ‘warming’ fearmongering. That was the crossover between Cooling hysteria and the latest scare tactic. Acid rain was the big thing and Gore was in on that too.

I remember the 80s VERY well.

Don’t kid yourself. This is a bombshell.

And it reflects very poorly on Perry, especially the lying part.

My question is, why are there people INSISTING that we have to coronate Perry right away? And that any criticism of him or critical examination of his record is something to avoid?

Sorry, homey don’t play dat. That’s not what Free Republic is all about.

These particular incidences happened after ‘88, OK, but how do you explain his jumping to Dukakis after Gore lost? Plus, what was it about Gore that Perry viewed so favorably that he led his charge to become Commander in Chief? I think that Perry is playing us for fools. Bob

Cracker Jack, you need to enlighten yourself before you try and convince anyone that Perry is worthy of consideration.

You have your criteria for selection, I have mine. My criteria are:

They are running.

They are electable.

They have EXECUTIVE experience. Senators and Congressmen and community organizers are typically not up to the job.

They are the most conservative of those qualified as above.

Using these criteria, the choices are Romney and Perry, with Cain eliminated by doubts of electability.

What criteria do you have?

Because the conservative candidates that are currently in the race cannot beat obama.

Feeling down? Maybe you need a little inspiration:
'Don’t Tell Me It Can't Be Done'

Yes it's an article from Newt, but it's a good one.

I have a funny feeling that most of the Perry haters on here are Palin fanatics who believe Palin or nothing.
Just a thought ...

Indeed, and apologies have a critical mass to them, get too many of those things hanging around your neck and folks begin to wonder...

I still haven’t found any real information about him supporting Carter in 1980 or Mondale in 1984. I found a site that claimed he was Mondale’s chair, but that same site said he beat “democrat Kay Hutchinson” in an election, and had other factual errors.

I’ve read elsewhere here that he voted for George Bush in 1988, not Dukakis — clearly he supported Al Gore, rather than Dukakis, in the primary. And we know he supported Carter in 1976.

I’m not saying this shows he didn’t support Mondale or Carter, or that it would matter one way or another. There just doesn’t seem to be information on the subject available.

Meanwhile, Al Gore did always have abysmal ACU ratings — 9% was I believe a step up from his 6% in 1986.

And he flat out LIED about Gore to our face. Palin never has.

I agree with you, but some Palin supporters say she lied about McCain when she said he was the best person for the Senate, that she lied about her views on immigration when she was running for Vice President, and that she has lied in other circumstances as well where they don't like the literal interpretation of what she has said.

Although "lie" is too strong a word, they never say she lied, just that she didn't mean what she was saying, and that as a politician you have to expect people to say things they don't mean, etc.

He did not lie about Al Gore. Al gore had not yet claimed to have "invented" the internet (he did that in 1999), and he was not considered "Mr GLobal Warming" until much later.

Perry did NOT say that Al Gore was a solid conservative in 1988, some of his supporters have claimed he was a conservative democrat, and they'll have to explain what they meant. I remember Al Gore not being a crazy lunatic in the 1980s. He had some good qualities, he as reasonably pro-life, and was good on gun rights.

Forget Florida, all evidence proves Bush won and more votes were disqualified illegally by the Gore lawyers, that idiot couldn’t win us here in Tennessee.

And his father was a full blown racist. His mother was one mean bitch. I had to deal with these elitist pigs working at a fancy hotel in Nashville.

Talk about entitlement. The stories...

He didn’t lie, no matter how many times you repeat it, it won’t make it so. Al Gore had not yet claimed he invented the internet, and was not known as Mr Global Warming, in 1988.

Your own evidence showed that to be true, so you should know that you are wrong about him lying.

There is an issue in that he was a democrat and supported democrats in the 1980s. When he isn’t doing a sound-bite speech, he explains in more detail about Gore, including that he didn’t support Al Gore’s views on global warming even then.

I have a feeling the average voter really doesn’t care what a candidate’s position was on something that was over 2 decades ago.

PERRY: WHY I SUPPORTED AL GORE...
http://www.politico.com/news/stories/0811/61428.html ^ | 08/15/2011 | Bob King

Posted on Monday, August 15, 2011 8:09:32 PM by RED SOUTH

In an interview with an Iowa radio station on Monday, the Republican presidential contender explained his role as the Gore campaign’s Texas chairman by saying that “this was Al Gore before he invented the Internet and got to be Mr. Global Warming.”

But in fact, global warming was already a significant theme for Gore in 1987 and 1988 — long before his activism led to several books, a Nobel Prize and a part in an Academy Award-winning film. It was also well before the right gave him the “Mr. Ozone” nickname and talk radio heaped endless mockery on the future vice president.
