New DHS rules cancel deportations
Wash Times ^ | 8/18/2011 | Stephen Dinan

he Homeland Security Department said Thursday it will halt deportation proceedings on a case-by-case basis against illegal immigrants who meet certain criteria such as attending school, having family in the military or are primarily responsible for other family members’ care.

The move, announced in letters to Congress, comes after Hispanic activists and Democrats had urged President Obama to exempt broad swaths of illegal immigrants from deportation while Congress wrestles with the issue.

Homeland Security Secretary Janet Napolitano said her department and the Justice Department will review all ongoing cases and see who meets the new criteria on a case-by-case basis.

“This case-by-case approach will enhance public safety,” she said in the letter. “Immigration judges will be able to more swiftly adjudicate high priority cases, such as those involving convicted felons.”

The new rules apply to those who have been apprehended and are in deportation proceedings, but have not been officially ordered out of the country by a judge. Miss Napolitano said a working group will try to come up with “guidance on how to provide for appropriate discretionary consideration” for “compelling cases” in those instances where someone has already been ordered deported.

It was unclear how many people might be affected by the new rules, though in fiscal year 2010 the government deported nearly 200,000 illegal immigrants who it said did not have criminal records.

The GOP candidate need only remind the 'Espanol-only' population that a President who picks and chooses laws to be enforced as he pleases is not to be trusted. That's something they can wrap their mind around. It's that simple. Anyone with half a lifetime under the PRI knows what a dictatorship looks like.

OBungle will need all the votes he can get, just trying to make sure part of his base remains in the country.

Notice how Obama tells Congress about his treasonous behaviour when Congress is not in session.

I was going to post something much like you did. I don’t much care which candidate it is but the one that speaks to this issue loudest has my vote.

This is just freaking wrong.

Friends of mine had to go back to Mexico last fall because they couldn’t get their visas renewed. These are hardworking people and their son was an honor roll student.

I think it is 2013 before they can apply to come back again.

More treasonous acts from this administration.

But they will get away with as they have from day one.

How does it go, “Too late to do anything and too early to shoot the bastards?” Can’t remember who coined that.

I doubt this will be reversed even if the Republicans win in 2012. They are traitors, too. If they weren’t, this would be a huge campaign issue. Watch it not even be mentioned.

We got on the fast track for this by the policies of a Republican POTUS named G.W. Bush. His idea was creating and giving powers too DHS. His idea was his precious N.A.T.U. His policies were very lax on Mexico from day one. His USDA's were the ones who went after BP agents. There is no difference between most Republicans and Democrats in Washington, DC.

ANYONE RUNNING FOR POTUS WITH EVEN A HINT IN THEIR RECORD OF BEING SOFT ON OR SHOWING SYMPATHIES TOWARD ILLEGALS SHOULD NOT GET A VOTE.

Thanks to the GOP Two House Majority and their giving unconstitutional increases in exectutive branch powers and the unbalancing the checks and balances between the branches of government we now have a king it seems. No MORE RINO's!!!!!

"Michelle Malkin, whom I love, was on Fox and Friends this am harping on Perry for the Gardisil thing, which was never even implemented, while Napolitano implements the Dream Act on her own."

"I just hate the way we eat our own."

I saw that too, and had already read some of her columns on Perry. What ever happened to Ronald Reagan's 11th Commandment? Yes, Perry may have overstepped his boundaries with the Gardisil decree (I don't know if vaccination policy is normally done by the legislature). No, the 6th grade requirement was not too young (the CDC recommends vaccination at age 11-12). Yes, the opt-out option was not broad or easy. Yes, the Texas legislature slapped him down almost immediately. Yes, Perry admitted he screwed up.

The problem with Malkin's argument is it really is a red herring. She suggests Perry's overstep as governor means he is an authoritarian who would also be an authoritarian if elected President. But if he is an authoritarian, he would have continued to lead by executive orders in Texas.

But Malkin is an antivaxxer. And I put antivaxxers up there with people who think the moon landings were faked.

Personally, I would rather have someone who overstepped his boundaries and got slapped down than someone who has never been humbled.

There is no wisdom in Malkin's argument, only feigned paranoia. I say feigned, because it is transparent Malkin actually wants someone else, and fears Perry. It was this same insanity which gave us McCain in 2008. There were some in the conservative media who supported a candidate but would not admit it, and instead sought to destroy Mike Huckabee. The result was the second choice in South Carolina (John McCain) won. The idiots hammering Huckabee never considered who would win if Huckabee was weakened. If McCain had come in second in South Carolina, he would not have won Florida, and he would have been out of the race. In all likelyhood, if that happened, Fred Thompson would have won the nomination.

Bush/Rove can't stand Perry, and tried to defeat him with Kay Bailey Hutchison, and are actively trying to destroy him now. But many on the right don't like Perry either, but mainly because he is not a national-level firebrand. Destroy Perry and we just guarantee Romney gets the nomination.

Bama says he is like President Abraham Lincoln . . .

Looks like he just issued his own emancipation proclamation . . . to free the illegals.

Won’t be long before the legals are the ones being hunted down and deported.
