Two American hikers who were detained in Iran have been sentenced to eight years in prison on charges of "illegal entry" and "espionage," the state TV website says.

Another FReeper who knows members of one family, said that one hiker (Josh Fataal) was in Iraq researching family roots. I think the FReeper said Josh’s grandfather was Iraqi. The 3 were on a hiking trail that is within Iraq, but is watched by Iranian patrols. It is believed that they were abducted and brought over the border into Iran.

You beat me to it, that was exactly my thought.

My prediction: In a couple of weeks, they'll be released, and Obama will be given huge credit for his brilliant negotiating skills.

How is hiking a scenic trail “ sticking pins in rattlesnakes”? And no one is asking you to “dive into the pit”. Even standing around the pit trying to help or give advice or showing concern is different from standing around the pit laughing or making snide remarks & walking away.

I think we perceive their behavior differently. I am not even convinced that they did not enter Iran, and do so deliberately. They have been coddled by an idiotic left wing schooling regimen and believe that someone else is always going to bail them out when they get in a jam.
