On the Nature of the Perry Attacks
http://www.redstate.com ^ | Saturday, August 20th | Erick Erickson

Posted on 08/20/2011 4:50:00 PM PDT by Para-Ord.45

Rick Perry once tried to get out of a speeding ticket.

Rick Perry once owned stock in a chain of video stores competing against Blockbuster, some of which also rented adult movies.

Rick Perry once was a Democrat.

The attacks have come fast and furious against him. But most of the attacks take on a peculiar and very telling strain.

A reporter on television or in print will utter a sentence like this, “Privately many Republican consultants suggest Rick Perry may be too Texas or shoot from the hip too much and might turn off necessary independent voters and women.”

It sounds so serious. As Alex Castellanos said on CNN the other night on John King USA, some fear Rick Perry might have “Mad Cowboy Disease.”

Let me sum this all up for you into what Rick Perry’s biggest problem is.

Whether you are talking about Alex (Team Carole Strayhorn 2006) or Karl Rove (Team Kay Bailey Hutchison 2010) or a host of other national Republican consultants, Rick Perry and his Texas team have beaten a significant portion of them.

But they did not just beat them. In many cases, Team Perry then shut the consultants who opposed him out of future business with him.

So there are scores and scores of Republican consultants who have scores to settle with Rick Perry and his team. And for guys like Karl Rove, if Perry were to win the White House, Karl and a few others would see themselves shut out of White House business for at least four years.

Rick Perry may be the only guy in America to have beaten both Karl Rove and also Obama’s own consultant, David Axelrod.

So there’s a lot of score settling in a lot of the attacks. Next time you hear some Republican consultant say Rick Perry can’t win because he is too much of a cowboy, understand that it is probably a national Republican consultant fearful they will be shut out of work if Perry wins and, more importantly, understand that the same dynamics were in place in 1980 with Reagan’s “boys from California” team of consultants and the national consultants back them said the same about Reagan — he’s too much of a cowboy conservative who will alienate key voting blocks.

That’s not to say Perry is Reagan. It is to say the GOP national consultants have been pulling the same stuff since 1980.

Well, sheeesh, I’m very sorry you took my post to you in a manner I didn’t intend! That’s the trouble I sometimes have with written word.

No question that he has a lot more experience that Governor Palin.

Governor Perry is a 27 year career politician!

Be well!

The McCain/Palin ticket was up ++8 pts. days prior to September 18th, 2008.

Then the stock market imploded, this had a far greater negative impact than anything Romney's people did IMHO.

It’s forgivable. And he’s going to win. Romney is too liberal. Bachmann isn’t a credible candidate. And Palin isn’t running.

So face it - you’ll be voting for Perry in 15 months, so get on the Perry express now.

Changing the subject for Captain Gardasil,
or to obfuscate RINO Perry’s
love for Islam or open borders?

I've not rejected him yet, but I will if he continues to pander to La Raza, or if he is too wishy washy on this issue.

No one is going to be as bad as Bambi on this issue, but I want someone who has expressed a serious desire to solve this illegal immigration crisis, stopping the influx of illegals in their tracks.

If Perry (or any other candidate) does not show a willingness to defend our borders, he will disappoint us as much as Bush did, and right now I don't want that, simply can't handle that.

Until he proves otherwise, I'll support someone else, particularly Palin if she runs.

There are a number of states that did a tad more on tort reform several decades back. Governor Otis Bowen of Indiana (elected in 1973 and again in 1981) brought in substantive tort and malpractice insurance reform which has been very successful. The top 5 states in terms of MEDICAL INDUSTRY are CA, TX, NY and FL. Indiana, with a fraction of the population of any of those states is #5.

That's 38 years ago ~ the issues been around a long time ~ interesting that Texas is only now cleaning up the mess, but keep at it.

This isn’t even a Palin thread , but i’ll entertain your Perry attack .
Why did she quit ?

First of all she isn’t going to run, and if i’m wrong and she does run , people are not going to put money behind someone who quits when the going gets a little tough .

I don't worry so much about whether he will look or sound like George Bush, but I am seriously worried about Perry's seeming weakness on illegal immigration. He's flirted with La Raza, shown the propensity to be an open borders guy, said he didn't like the new AZ law, and is way too close to Bush's angle on illegals for my comfort zone.
I don't just want a good candidate, I want a president I can trust in this fragile time.

Excellent post, Sharky! Are you reading my mind and much better expressing my thoughts and concerns? LOL.

Illegal immigration is a huge issue and Governor Perry's positions and record are worrisome, and he reminds me of President Bush. My mimd remains open and we have not yet begun the marathon primary season.

"Hold yer horsies" is my advice. Learn everything we can about all the candidates, partiulary the ones in the so-called lead! Let's see how it all shakes out.

We must have our Victory in 2012 and that means our TEA PARTY VICTORY!

Frankly, I watched the last debate...trying to picture each candidate on the stage with The Won. It scared me silly. There is no way I think Perry is perfect...but I can see him messing with O’s mind in a big way.

My first goal this election season...retain the House and gain the Senate.

My second goal...make O look like the idiot he is.

If you think for one minute that Rick Perry is not aware of the dangers of Islam in America, you are sadly mistaken.

Why are you picking on him?

What have the other canidates and prospective candidates done/said against Islam??

NEWSFLASH: they won't say/do anything. If they did, they know what a sh*t storm it would bring down on them!

One of them finally got the guts to go up against Islam. That was Herman Cain. After the sh*t storm desended on him, Cain appologized for his remarks about not hiring Muslims) That is the sad state of affairs re; Islam in America.

The main thing here is to get this POS Muslim/Marxist's sorry a$$ kicked out of our White House before he finishes destroying America. This election will be about growing jobs and the economy. Rick Perry is the only one with an excellent, solid record in this area- and is tough enough to go up against Obama.

Here’s another hint, now I’m getting really worried, openborders R2D2 is at it again, I just can’t believe he said this: http://www.freerepublic.com/focus/f-news/2766637/posts

Personal pronoun “I” is capitalized.
To not do so is distracting.

Your third goal (if you should choose to take this mission), help elect a president who has good character and instincts.

Apologies for the Mission Impossible stuff.......

so WHY the blinders for Perry ?
and why do you attack fellow conservatives,
who have honest questions about someone who is a pro-
Amnesty big goverment politician, who C.A.I.R. supported!

Good questions. Anyone not carrying water for RINO Rick is attacked. So be it. I'd rather be attacked for defending conservatism than be attacked for supporting RINO Rick.
