The Seattle Mariner broadcasters felt it in Cleveland. It spooked one of them, but the other one (Dave Henderson) said basically that it was “no big deal.” Since he was there at the ballpark for the 1989 San Francisco quake, he has a point.

Native Californians yawn at anything under a 6.0.

So this will shut down Washington for at least a day while the inspector brigade sharpens their pencils, etc.

Imagine if this had happened during the debt ceiling crisis! There’d be finger pointing and “end times” and retribution talk all over.

Maybe we need EarthquakePAC to affect policy in DC?!

I hate it when you Californians get all uppity over quakes. How about if we send you some hurricanes and tornadoes?

Sounds like it’s a very widespread area..which could mean that the fault slipped over a great distance..thus reducing the stress...and the magnitude...had it locked up it would have been much worse at the epicednter..

I was in bed in NJ drifting in and out of sleep after a long night of traveling... the shaking and rattling woke me up.

I was in CA yesterday near L.A., and in my semiconscious state I thought ‘cool, another CA earthquake’.

Then I realized I was in NJ, not CA. Whoa! That’s when I was a little alarmed!

They shut down JFK and Newark airports, I hear.

I was in a 7.6 once. Now THAT was an earthquake.

This never happened when a white man was president.. Earthquakes are racist!

Let's see...centered in Louisa Co. VA...home to "one of the country's oldest secular communes" as part of the "back to the land" movement:

The Twin Oaks Community is one of the country's oldest secular communes, established by its first eight members in 1967. This was part of a national movement among numerous young people to "get back to the land" and live in more simple ways based in community. Louisa is also home to the Acorn Community, a rural, cooperative, income sharing community on about 80 acres, founded in 1993 by one of the founding member of Twin Oaks, Kat Kincade. Another newly forming community as of 2011 is the Living Energy Farm, a 'neo-Amish' farm, where no fossil fuels will be used but new technologies such as solar will be embraced. Louisa is becoming a hub of cooperative rural communities.

The other girl in my wife’s office here in Fayetteville felt it - my wife didn’t - then the guys that worked out back on a large cement lot called the office saying the ground shook.

I missed the whole thing as I was walking.

I’m in the Midlands in SC and I felt it. Just that little vibration/sway when you aren’t sure if it is your nerves or not. I knew though from my California days what it was and went to the usgs site and sure enough, reported 2 minutes prior in NC.

I felt it in Dover, Delaware, on the third floor of a three-story building. It lasted about fifteen seconds, and I bolted like a bat out of hell down the stairs and out the door.

The Japanese have a saying: In case of earthquake, run upstairs, because upstairs is a good place to be when upstairs becomes downstairs...

nah...no earthquake happening here in NC. That’s just the foundation guys outside my house jacking up the footing/foundation.

Seriously, I’m sure there was a quake...but my house was being “bumped” up on steel piers in 4 different places while the quake was happening. And, there were some strong bumps. I’d have never known the difference...except I’m writing these guys a check for $4500 today, and quakes are free. :-)

From experience here in Southern California, I can tell you that it’s not uncommon at all to hear a rumble as the earthquake wave closes in on you. It could quite easily be thought of as sounding something like thunder.

If you are standing outside, you can see the wave coming towards you, if you can look down a highway or another flat surface. You can also see telephone polls affected by the quake as it moves in your direction.

I was on the phone with someone about 50 miles away once, when a quake rolled by them. It took a fair amount of time to get to where I was, say fifteen to thirty seconds, perhaps a bit more seconds. I don’t remember the exact time it took any longer.
