Cheney kept secret resignation letter By: Tim Mak August 24, 2011 02:21 PM EDT

Dick Cheney kept a secret resignation letter locked away in a safe in case he were ever to be incapacitated, the former vice president reveals in his new book.

The letter, which Cheney signed in March of 2001, was written because of his health.

“The possibility that I might have a heart attack or a stroke that would be incapacitating… there is no mechanism for getting rid of a vice president who can’t function,” he told NBC in an interview that will air Monday as the book is published.

The letter was locked in a safe at all times — the location was not disclosed in the interview — and known only to a handful of people, including President George W. Bush.

Cheney did the interview as part of the promotion for his upcoming memoir, “In My Time,” which hits the shelvesAug. 30.

“This book is gonna make a lot of people angry,” said NBC interviewer Jamie Gangel.

Cheney responded, “There are gonna be heads exploding all over Washington, Jamie.”

Actually, there is.

However, it would involve Biden’s leadership, concurrence of the cabinet, and likely putting Biden into the Oval Office. Insupportable.

From Sect. 4 of the 25th Amendment:

“Whenever the Vice President and a majority of either the principal officers of the executive departments or of such other body as Congress may by law provide, transmit to the President pro tempore of the Senate and the Speaker of the House of Representatives their written declaration that the President is unable to discharge the powers and duties of his office, the Vice President shall immediately assume the powers and duties of the office as Acting President. . . “

Help is on the way again.

I just pre-ordered Mr.Cheney’s book on Amazon.

It’s only about 20 bucks.

My favorite Cheney quote, was when he told Leaky Leahey to go eff himself. LOL!

Bears Bears Bears Bears Bears Bears Bears Bears Bears Bears Bears Bears Bears Bears Bears Bears (repeating)

Cheney is a good man. Add to that honorable and responsible. Given his health, he was thinking of the country over himself. Not to be found in dc today.

You guys REALLY need to see the comments to this article.

I went to ESU, and I knew a LOT of people in this mindset. The bottom-line is that they want to JAIL conservatives - defeating them is NOT ENOUGH. They just haven’t figured out a way to jail us (or “re-educate through manual labor”, to borrow their terminology) without killing themselves in public opinion. Once they do figure that out, don’t think for a moment that they won’t use that tool against us.

So what does this all mean? It means that these animals have to be DEFEATED and DEFEATED for good. We can NEVER compromise with them...since they want to jail us (per the article) or worse.

Sir, you may have good points to make, but —

If you want your posts read, you might want to learn basic grammar, spelling, punctuation, and capitalization.

Otherwise, what you write just comes off as ignorant and isn’t taken seriously, if anybody even puts the effort into deciphering it.

Yea ... I called you a punk, punk!

What a great photo! Bush looks like he's about to bust out laughing, and Cheney shows that he's not awed by The One. Maybe Bush just had a glance at the look on Cheney's face. :)

We can't see 0bama's face, but I suspect it was the typical blank expression he wears when he doesn't have a teleprompter. Compared to what we have now, Bush was a giant, and Cheney should have his image carved on Mt Rushmore.

Same here. I first noticed Cheney as Bush 1’s Sec. of Defense during Desert Storm. When GW named him to find his V-P in 2000, I was thrilled when Bush picked Cheney after the “search.” I happened to be in Lincoln Nebraska, his birthplace, when they announced Cheney would be the V-P. There was alot of celebrating by the locals. I, too, will be buying his book.
