Inland CT, just east of the CT river and Dodd-ville, well at least that is where I am riding out the storm, at my parent’s house. My mom is in her late 70s and not as mobile as she was, so she’ll need all the help she can get. Thank God she doesn’t need oxygen anymore.

Finally got a decent chainsaw, extra chain, protective chaps, water, food, they have 2 cords of wood, multiple long guns. All the patio stuff is put away, and I took a few pictures of the garden to remember it by ...

:) Stay safe. Wish this thing would run east out to sea. When Gloria hit, we were without power for a week, and it took my dad and I 3 days to clear the driveway to get out. Even with a tropical storm and all that rain, we could have a lot of downed trees.

I sent my wife out for provisions — she bought us ice cream.

I live inland also and the biggest concern I have is the wind.

Yup. One of the small cities near where I live often has flooding with 3-4 inches of rain. The head of the road crew was quoted as saying “If we get 10-12” of rain, it would be the worst flood since 1955”.

The Yantic river in Norwich, if anyone knows the area.

We're down in the southeast corner of Georgia.

We got a shower this afternoon but get worse thunderstorms. We were actually hoping for more rain to finish putting out the Honey Prairie fire burning in the Okefenokee swamp.

It looks like we got away from Long Island and the Jersey shore just in time.

Ice cream... I thought that was just for snow storms. Oh well, add that to tomorrow’s grocery list. LOL!!

The soggy ground + all that rain + the wind. Toppled trees.

Did you see any of the gov’s news conferences? Our Lt Gov looks like a scared puppy dog. She doesn’t inspire a lot of confidence standing next to DM.

Removed from the yard anything that might become airborne in high winds, tested generator, filled, gas cans for it, as well as the truck, got propane for the grill to cook, bought an all metal pan to boil water on the grill for coffee, picked up ice for the fridge to help keep things cold in between generator plug ins, and got non parishables we may need as well as water from the store. Also got some fried chicken and made potato salad so I won’t need to cook for a couple days, we can eat that cold.

Taping the windows does nothing except make sure the flying shards which kill you are a little bigger. Be sure to take the tape off before the sun bakes it onto the glass.

I’m in Florida and have been through quite a few.

My Plans During Hurricane Irene

I'm in Richmond, VA
Tomorrow morn I will spread grass seed, move some outdoor furnishings inside, take down my four flags (USA, France, Ireland, Vatican). Some of the smaller flower pots will be moved indoors. My statues, Jeanne d'Arc, Mary, Queen of Heaven, and Angels should be fine as these are protected.
I will then go to the gym for a morning workout, back home for a shower, and then go online at RickPerry.org to get all the exciting news and updates about our next president, the current governor of Texas, Rick Perry.

Spreading grass seed before a thunderstorm is not recommended. I've never heard about spreading it before a Hurricane!

Don’t forget the topload washing machine. They can hold a
‘few’ gallons for nonpotable water!

And your water heater is a valuable source as well. Every one has a garden hose threaded spigot at the bottom of the tank.

Mi dos centavos.

Just north of NYC. I’ve got my generator, a pantry full of food (with a hat tip to Kartographer), a full wine rack, fuel, portable radio, water, flashlights, candles....

Yeah, I’m ready.
