AUSTIN, Texas (AP) - Texas Gov. Rick Perry has asked the U.S. Department of Homeland Security for nearly $350 million to cover the costs incurred detaining illegal immigrants in state prisons and county jails. In a letter to Homeland Security Secretary Janet Napolitano, Perry criticized the federal government hasn't been doing enough to secure the border with Mexico, thereby allowing illegal immigrants to enter the U.S. and use taxpayer-funded resources, including prisons and jails. It's a claim the Republican governor has made many times before.

The letter was dated Aug. 10, three days before Perry formally announced he is running for president.

Perry has been criticized by some fellow conservatives as being too lenient on illegal immigration issues.

OK, you anti-Perry types, he isn't perfect, but you gotta like this.

Perry needs to throw Napolitano’s @$$ in jail and then bill Barry for having to house her.

Get back to me when he quits with the symbolism and actually supports effective means of enforcement, you know, like:

1. A Texas AZ1070(Which he was against)
2. Using E-Verify to deny employment in Texas(Which he is against)
3. A Border Fence/Wall(Which he is against)

Get back to me when Mr. Symbolism gets serious about ending Illegal Immigration.

They don’t have to like it and they will never be satisfied. Some, because his name is not Palin. Others because his name is not Paul. Others because they are members of the professional whiners club.

Still others simply do not like some of the glaringly obvious problems with the mans’ record.

gimmick.

We should bill Perry for the money lost for giving illegals in-state tuition.

On the one hand, I can see the logic.

On the other hand, it will merely be laid on the Taxpayers to pay for it, nationwide, because the illegal assholes are STILL in this country, living on "los freebies", and the approval of it is in Washington, D.C.

That's an excellent idea. Why should Texas taxpayers pay for the negligence of those Washington DC?
What a great idea! On to the other 49 states!

A good gimmick. Now if Brewer of AZ and the rest would all submit bills, it would be interesting.

It would be a lot more impressive if he had been protecting the border and billing the feds for that.

Get back to us when your candidate announces she ‘may be interested in becoming a presidential candidate for the election to be held in 2012’. We’ll wait but will not hold our collective breath.

His first term he was pretty hard nosed. He proposed two major initiatives- Operation Linebacker and Operation Rio Grande. They would have authorized State law enforcement to crack down on illegals and put the Texas National Guard on the border. In both cases, he was shot down by the Feds (Bush Administration sadly) as being out of the State’s jurisdiction.

He isn’t a Tom Tancredo or Duncan Hunter on border issues, but he isn’t a Bush either.

OK, you anti-Perry types, he isn't perfect, but you gotta like this.

Even Schwarzenegger tried this and Perry knows it. Hence, it's a waste of taxpayers' money on a pathetic empty gesture, but it is good for Rick Perry... which IS typical Rick Perry.

Was that what you wanted?

Unfortunately the Feds will rush to provide amnesty to illegals to skate from any liability.
