New body 'liquefaction' unit unveiled in Florida funeral home
BBC News ^ | August 30, 2011 | Neil Bowdler

Excerpt only website: A Glasgow-based company has installed its first commercial "alkaline hydrolysis" unit at a Florida funeral home.

The unit by Resomation Ltd is billed as a green alternative to cremation and works by dissolving the body in heated alkaline water.

The facility has been installed at the Anderson-McQueen funeral home in St Petersburg, and will be used for the first time in the coming weeks. It is hoped other units will follow in the US, Canada and Europe.

The makers claim the process produces a third less greenhouse gas than cremation, uses a seventh of the energy, and allows for the complete separation of dental amalgam for safe disposal.

Maybe an orchard can’t be turned into a graveyard but why not the reverse? Plant a tree on top of every grave, with vaults constructed so that the roots can easily get in.. The maintenance would go towards pruning the tree and insecticidal treatment to prevent insect damage of fruits. The fruit itself would be free to all visitors. “This peach reminds me of grandpa!” “That’s because he’s in it, honey child!”

No, thanks. I'm good here. Moral high ground and all that.

having a good time kicking it around and laughing

Isn't that exactly what I'm doing? What seems to be the trouble?

dental amalgam is silver and mercury. I used to be a dental assistant in the olden days, when we made these filling by hand with a little mortar and pestle and wrung them out in a little piece of cotton fabric.

It only works about a quarter of the times I’ve tried it.

Not to worry, though, we can always depend on you to find an older thread if it exists.

You mean you’re just a joker? Well then, that puts it in a whole different light! Carry on, man, and for my part I’ll laugh and then just ignore you.

“Green” is a meaningless BS word that should not be used unless describing a color.

People twist the definition, but honestly, just rotting after death makes sense, because that’s the original way it was supposed to go right? Not to mention fertilizes the soil. Anyways, I think it’s good for plants, the real “green” to think about and I would have it in my will that I either get cremated and my ashes buried, or simply buried so that I can decompose in the soil, and return my contents to the Earth again, because, with my Bible meter feeling a little high today, God told Adam,

Genesis 3:19
“ By the sweat of your brow
you will eat your food
until you return to the ground,
since from it you were taken;
for dust you are
and to dust you will return.” (NIV)

You know, those don’t look all that different from the tasty snack crackers Mrs. Tick brings home with the groceries.

Maybe Mom was wrong, and people aren’t so bad after all!

So who gets to choose liquefaction? And who would want to?
It is increasingly clear that we are populated by humans with human sensitivities and monsters with inhuman urges. So let the beasts get it over with and terminate themselves. The only rule is that they can not require anyone to do as they see fit. The second rule is that they must live by their own rules. These are the same rule, stated differently.

Body tissue is dissolved and the liquid poured into the municipal water system

I'm not the type to keep Auntie's ashes in a jar on a shelf, but going down the drain??? Of course there's the other solution, composting! WOW!
