~The FReeper Canteen Presents~

Road Trip: Moody Air Force Base, Georgia

Moody Air Force Base is a United States Air Force installation located in Lowndes County and Lanier County, about 9 miles northeast of Valdosta, Georgia, United States.

Moody Air Force Base is home to the 23d Wing. The wing executes worldwide close air support, force protection, and combat search and rescue operations (CSAR) in support of humanitarian interests, United States national security and the global war on terrorism.

The base is host to one HH-60G rescue squadron and one HC-130P rescue squadron. The HC-130P flies low-level missions into hostile territory to effect rescues and to provide air refueling for rescue helicopters. The HH-60G helicopter provides combat search and rescue capability as well as fulfilling a peacetime role of search and rescue. The AT-38 squadron focuses on teaching recent pilot training graduates the fighter aircraft fundamentals. The T-6 squadron instructs pilot training students the fundamentals of flying.

The 23rd Wing is the host unit at Moody Air Force Base near Valdosta, Ga. The wing organizes, trains and employs combat-ready A-10C, HC-130P, HH-60G, pararescuemen, force protection assets and support personnel. The wing executes worldwide close air support, force protection and rescue forces to include combat search and rescue and personnel recovery in support of humanitarian interests, United States national security and worldwide contingency operations.

The wing is home to the 347th Rescue Wing, the only Combat Search and Rescue Wing in the Air Force. Their mission is to organize, train, and employ a combat-ready, HC-130, HH-60 rescue wing consisting of 3,400 military and civilian personnel. The wing supports the 479th AETC Flying Training and 820th Security Forces Groups in all operations. The 347th Rescue Wing executes worldwide peacetime and Combat Search and Rescue operations in support of humanitarian and U.S. national security interests. The wing provides logistical and base support functions for assigned personnel and over 5,000 family members.

The primary mission of the HH-60G Pave Hawk helicopter is to conduct day or night combat search and rescue, or CSAR, operations into hostile environments to recover downed aircrew or other isolated personnel during war. Because of its versatility, the HH-60G is also tasked to perform military operations other than war. These tasks include civil search and rescue, emergency aeromedical evacuation, disaster relief, international aid, counterdrug activities and NASA space shuttle support.

Don’t know, not a personal pic, I pulled it from the web.
All the training bombs were blue.

Well, here’s the caption:

” U.S. Air Force McDonnell Douglas F-4E-36-MC Phantom II (s/n 67-0390) from the 70th Tactical Fighter Squadron, 347th Tactical Fighter Wing, Moody Air Force Base, Georgia (USA), with a tow target attached to its underside takes off during the air-to-air weapons meet “William Tell ‘86” at Tyndall AFB, Florida (USA).”
Thats actually when I belonged to the squadron although I pulled the pic off the web.

My Aunt Gloria could charm a copperhead and bend the ear off an elephant and I don't mind a bit.......but a lot of the chat was with my cattle breeder cousin on the local situation back there, which covered a busted tie iron on a tractor, scrub cedars in his fence line and N-methyl-1-phenylpropan-2-amine use in the locality.

Some things can be easily fixed...others not.

I have problem with wild florabunda roses in my fence line.. I’d rather have cedars.

We do have a meth issue but recently it has been bath salts.

OK. Makes that makes sense: He’s pulling a bright “red” target on a wire behind the wing-mounted retrieval winch, so the following planes can take pot shots at the drogue for a aerial dog-fighting competition between fighters.

To be clear, the drogue which he is flying in front of is the target.

So ... who is the braver pilot?
The guy pulling the trigger? Or the guy pulling the drogue?

Easy

2 cans of crushed pinapple and enough water to make 6 1/2 cups.
6 cups of sugar
2 pkts of certo.

Bring the pinapple to a rolling boil.. add the sugar..bring back to a boil.. Sprinkle in the certo and boil for 1 additional minute.

Water bath processing.

Jam by morning.
