The Bay States controversial 2006 universal health-care plan also known as Romneycare has cost Massachusetts more than 18,000 jobs, according to an exclusive blockbuster study that could provide ammo to GOP rivals of former Gov. Mitt Romney as he touts his job-creating chops on the campaign trail.
Mandating health insurance coverage and expanding the demand for health services without increasing supply drove up costs. Economics 101 tells us that, said Paul Bachman, research director at Suffolk Universitys Beacon Hill Institute, the conservative think tank that conducted the study. The Herald obtained an exclusive copy of the findings.
The shared sacrifice needed to provide universal health care includes a net loss of jobs, which is attributable to the higher costs that the measure imposed, said David Tuerck, the institutes executive director.

Buh Bye, Romney. Go mow your lawn.
Every time Romney says his health care deal was “right for Massachusetts” I want to hurl something at the television. Has he even bothered to keep apprised of what’s going on here? He keeps referring to it as “my state” even though he’s been loooong gone.
Premiums are rising dramatically, plan services are diminishing rapidly and if you don’t have coverage you will be fined and then sicced by a law firm for the fines and STILL be required to get coverage.
Unless you are an Obama family member (illegal alien) or a member of “MassHealth” (aka welfare). Well, then life is free and easy.
Romney Gives Mass. Health Reform an 'A' (in July, 2009)
"The portrait depicts the governor seated at the front edge of his desk wearing his trademark business suit. Beside him is a small framed photo of his wife, Ann, and ... [wait for it] ... a copy of the health care reform law he called his greatest achievement.
HOWEVER, she now acts as if Gardasil is the bigger issue?! And is sucking up to Romney?!
Is Romney copping a feel in that picture?
Bachmann looks like Romney is stepping on her foot.
Romney would be a disaster. Fortunately most GOP voters know that and he won't get within a country mile of the nomination.
I think the leftist are helping Romney more then anyone.
“Republicans cannot credibly run on repealing Obamacare with Romney as the nominee.”
That’s the bottom line, period.
The PerryHaters need to understand that Mittens WILL NOT EVER BE POTUS; he’s the grandfather of ObamaCare.
Plus, whatever negatives Perry has, he hasn’t had illegals working at his house...cut your own grass Mittens.
Swimmer: Wow. This loser really is an unrepentant abortionist/statist lying political whore!
Perfectly stated!!! Big AMEN to that!!!
I can't fathom it.
Yet Laura Ingraham, Ann Coulter, Mike Huckabee and others have all said this week Mitt Romney will be the nominee.
It makes my head explode. He's been on all sides of every issue. He's still doing it, even in the debates on social security, immigration and healthcare.
Who can trust him?
I have told others that if Mitten is elected...we can kiss our chances of repealing obamacare and pulling it out by the roots. He’s made news.
“Who can trust him?”
No one can, he’s an opportunist, nearly as bad as Bill Clinton.
Milt’s a complete statist douche; no actual liberty loving person can support him.
The thing is, he CAN’T get elected as a Republican. He’s a Rat. Maybe he should challenge Obama for the Rat nomination.
Keep him running as a republican, he’ll be zapped in the primaries...we don’t need this bum running for president as a dem. Mittens had this nomination until Perry stepped in.
The PerryHaters need to understand what you just wrote...the nomination was looking like Milt’s until RP jumped in.
RP ain’t perfect, but he’s tens of light years better than Romney..it’s not even close.
Well, in theory someone else could have (and still could) run, although IMHO, that person would get blown out in the General Election.
With Obamacare such a big issue, I really don’t see why Romney even bothers running. He must be profoundly out of touch.
There are close to 70% of people polled who’d never vote for that someone. That someone has no chance, unfortunately. The majority of Americans aren’t political junkies...therefore, they’ll look at who has the record for jobs and the economy. Perry has that record especially during Obama’s depression in the USA. All the rest is a sideshow.
I have written here in FR several times that I honestly think there is something wrong with Romney.
Out of touch?
Pick one or all, his mind is baked.
Agreed and agreed!
“it’s the economy, stupid!” Right?
What TX has done in this depression is nothing short of very damn impressive!
