Global Warming: Deep Oceans Could Delay Effects for Decade-Long Periods (Aha!)
IB Times ^ | September 19, 2011 | IB Times Staff Reporter

Earth's temperatures will likely stabilize for a period as deep ocean waters absorb enough heat to mask the effects of global warming for up to a decade, a new study indicates.

Earth's "missing heat" has long been a mystery for climate scientists as the last decade saw an incessant growth in greenhouse gas emissions did not elevate surface temperature as much as expected.

The joint U.S.-Australian study, based on computer simulations of global climate, points to ocean layers deeper than 1,000 feet (300 meters) as the main location of the "missing heat" during periods such as the past decade when global air temperatures showed little trend.

The study conducted by scientists at the National Center for Atmosperic Research and the Bureau of Meteorology in Australia was published in the Sept. 18 issue of the journal Nature Climate Change.

“We will see global warming go through hiatus periods in the future," said the NCAR's Gerald Meehl, who led the study.

"However, these periods would likely last only about a decade or so, and warming would then resume. This study illustrates one reason why global temperatures do not simply rise in a straight line."

Well, it’s secret teleporting mystery heat. Kind of like ob@st@rd’s knowledge of science and economics...

“Mask the effects...” “...will likely...” “as much as expected...” “would likely last only about a decade or so” are all WEASEL WORDS. typical.

Sorry, I didn't conclude my comment properly:

It should say:

"Maybe the oceans are flushing themselves from the BS coming from these scientists."

Wow, they’ve discovered....

#1 Heat doesn’t rise, it sinks.

#2 After it sinks, it waits 10 years, and then decides to rise.

Why not 7 years? Why not 30 years? Why not 100 years?

Al Gore bombed this week, so his third cousin smoked weed + came up with THIS.

The “Green House Effect” is basically the absorption of reflected long wave radiation (infrared) from the planet surface being absorbed into evil gases. The evil gases are basically incapable of absorbing short wave radiation (sunlight). When the long wave radiation gets reflected back to the surface of the ocean (from the evil gases), it only penetrates into the water for a few millimeters. Therefore, green house gases are completely incapable of heating the ocean. All heating of the ocean occurs directly from sunlight.

That is funny. After it sinks it waits years.

These guys are reaching to such an extent, that even a lay person can see they are full of crap.

Oceans have a ramp function, not a step function

Fail scientists......if they are really?

Well, probably most will swallow that without thinking: “Hey, wait a minute. Isn't that what's been happening for - forever?

The 22 year Solar Minimum/maximum cycles of 11 + 11?

I'm not sure I like the projections for the next solar max tho’ - brrrr. When you're an ole great granny, you don't want to contemplate that.

If the study group had sent submarines down periodically to check deep ocean temperatures, it might be worth looking at the associated assertions. But a naked “computer simulation” showing that it’s “possible” for deep ocean waters to counter a global accumulation of solar heat, hardly proves that this accumulation is taking place. It is, as another said, “the dog ate my homework.”

Every time the average volcano sneezes, it puts more of them “greenhouse” gasses and reflective particles in the atmosphere than man has done since he got kicked out of the garden.

Ocean absorbs heat!! It’s another conspiracy to cover up the fact that SPACE ALIENS from the ICE WORLD of HOTH are coming to Earth and stealing the excess heat to take back to their home world to roast marshmallows.

Sounds as if the creator knew what HE was doing.

Exactly! What the loons don't understand is that, by design, there is a limiting factor called the extinction coefficient that limits how much heat CO2 can contribute to the atmosphere:

http://www.randombio.com/co2.html

As the article says, we are almost at the limit now.

LOL...our theory is always right...although the evidence is often wrong.

Then again, the Earth could enter into another ice age, and the oceans would get colder. If warmer oceans keep the Earth cooler, do cooler oceans make the Earth warmer? More to the point, how much grant money did the “National Center for Atmosperic Research and the Bureau of Meteorology in Australia” get to find the lost heat?

Who wants to take bets on the next theory. I’m thinking something like tree cores or something like that. Something really stupid that scientists can make sound reasonable.

The joint U.S.-Australian study, based on computer simulations of global climate,

To an outsider, the most significant innovation in the global warming controversy is the overt reliance that is being placed on models. Back in the days of nuclear winter, computer models were invoked to add weight to a conclusion: "These results are derived with the help of a computer model."

But now, large-scale computer models are seen as generating data in themselves. No longer are models judged by how well they reproduce data from the real world-increasingly, models provide the data.

As if they were themselves a reality. And indeed they are, when we are projecting forward. There can be no observational data about the year 2100. There are only model runs. This fascination with computer models is something I understand very well.---Michael Crichton

I know...melting water from glaciers is cooling down the ocean enough to temporarily delay global warming. But in 10 years they will all be melted, then...(que spooky music)...

I’m sure it wouldn’t be too dificult to program a computer to “prove” my theory.
