Tony Bennett apologizes for 9/11 remark (He left his heart in New York City)
CBS News ^ | 09/20/2011

Tony Bennett has apologized for remarks he made during an interview with Howard Stern Monday.

Talking about 9/11, Bennett said the U.S. caused the attacks.

In a statement issued late Tuesday, according to Newsday.com, Bennett said, "There is simply no excuse for terrorism and the murder of the nearly 3,000 innocent victims of the 9/11 attacks on our country. My life experiences -- ranging from the Battle of the Bulge (in World War II) to marching with Martin Luther King -- made me a lifelong humanist and pacifist, and reinforced my belief that violence begets violence and that war is the lowest form of human behavior.

"I am sorry if my statements suggested anything other than an expression of my love for my country, my hope for humanity and my desire for peace throughout the world."

While promoting his new album of duets, "Duets II," on Stern's radio show, Bennett asserted that the U.S. was responsible for the Sept. 11, 2001 attacks on New York and Washington, D.C.

"They flew the plane in, but we caused it," Bennett told Stern, according to the New York Daily News. The "they" in his statement is presumably terrorists.

Bennett also says former president George W. Bush admitted to him that the war in Iraq was a mistake. At an event at the Kennedy Center to honor Bennett, the singer says Mr. Bush told him, "I think I made a mistake," according to the Daily News.

A spokesman for Mr. Bush denied that to the Daily News, telling the newspaper, calling the account "flatly wrong."

yes. I guess he would have just let Hitler overrun Europe and the the world. The whiney weenie would have lasted two seconds as a caveman. Then we wouldn’t even being listening to his dribble.

I find this often happens with weak people. They hang out with the ‘in crowd’ and start parroting their language. Tony picked the wrong crowd to mimic and hang our with - celebrities are all about oohing and aahing over each other.

These weak people are easy to spot once you gently nudge the unsuspecting subject from their talking points and ask for facts. One weapon I especially like to utilize is to ask them where they got their college degree.

Blink....blink...ummm...

Okay then, get back to me when we can have an intelligent conversation based on facts, not your little friends’ opinions.

I appreciate your service BACK THEN. But it is my opinion that your recent actions are conduct unbecoming to the military. And watch for your royalties and residuals to dry up. Nobody likes someone who calls a bully names, while hiding behind a more honorable person who has the balls to believe in and do the right thing.

Oh. I see he said this on a show intended to promote the sale of his product. What a idiot. His manager and business people must have pulled a few hairs out of their head. These liberal artists are so narcissistic they live in a whole other world. That is sort of like Bill Gates going on a TV show to promote Windows 20 billion and telling the audience he like to kill and eat small children and unsuspecting kitties and puppies. Uh . . . huh? Liberalism truly is a mental illness.

And to all the other men who bravely fought in WWI, WWII and all the other wars, I thank you. I could just cry right now, thinking of your suffering and also of your bravery. It is moments like I just had, reading of the battles you fought in, that make me MORE proud to be an American.

I love you guys and God Bless You!!!!

Seek and Find:

“His fake apology is happening merely because he got a call from his PR people, telling him it was a bad move.”

More likely a call from his accountant.

"My life experiences -- ranging from the Battle of the Bulge (in World War II).."

From Wikipedia:

Benedetto was drafted into the United States Army in November 1944..Processed through the huge Le Havre replacement depot, in January 1945, he was assigned as a replacement infantryman to 255th Infantry Regiment of the 63rd Infantry Division, a unit filling in for the heavy losses suffered in the Battle of the Bulge.

So he never actually fought in the Battle of the Bulge then.

"I am sorry if my statements suggested anything other than an expression of my love for my country, my hope for humanity and my desire for peace throughout the world."

These two words often used together to somehow discount the obvious nastiness that is said or done by people is just so predictable. What it always says to others is, "I was a complete and utter obvious idiot or jerk and now I am going to act as if it was just a misconstrued statement or action." When really it is plain as day what they said or did and the intention clear when they said or did it.

It would be terribly sad if freepers managed to “misplace” his CDs in stores where they wouldn’t be seen.

He was probably sting by a backlash he didn’t anticipate. (Because liberals always seem to assume that everyone agrees with their idiotic views).

If he wasn’t a senile leftist a-hole, there’d be no need for him to apologize.

I’d like to think Tony Bennett has become senile.

In reality Tony’s real problem is that he’s a liberal dummy.
