Have any of you guys read “Bill and Dave”? It’s a great story, but kind of sad in retrospect.
I don’t know. I read this earlier today in the WSJ, and I honestly think she might help the company. They have made some very bad decisions lately and they clearly need a new approach.
Of course, this was just after reading about Netflix killing its own business and depressing its stock by some incredible percent, so I guess compared to that, HP could only go up.
Generally speaking CEOs in the USA are vastly overpaid even though they typically destroy shareholder and employee value.
They play the game to create market volatility so their options will make them money, even though the shareholders are shaken out and underwater. They are basically PR politicians that provide little tangible value, while they demand their compensation and benefits be nailed down in such a way as to make all the union members that we criticize envious. Why do CEOs and entertainers get a contract? Why don’t they either do their job competently or be fired without contract? Shareholders would be willing to pay them or fire them and they should be unprotected. But they keep such decisions with their cronies, and the shareholders never have such input.
Fiorina was such a CEO. She worked to destroy Lucent and walked away with a gold mine. Meg is another who got her fortune only because she was put into the CEO position before eBay went public. IMHO these are two overpaid corporate titans that represent the problem, not the solution.

Let's say you were given a year to kill Hewlett-Packard.
Meg Whitman took eBay from $4 million to $8 billion. So what she's a RINO. She's running a company, not a country. Get your heads out of your asses.
Let’s look at Carly’s actions for a moment. She laid off tens of thousands of HP employees, then ordered 7 private Lear jets for herself and other corporate members. Was this in the best interests of the company? No, this was a self-serving ego-maniacal action one would expect from a member of the US presidency.
Look at Meg Whitman, insider trading made her a multi-millionaire; if you or I stole money on that order of magnitude, we would both be incarcerated.
There are a few women who are competent leaders, but being politically correct is more important than qualifications. Consider, of the hundreds of executive staff at HP; many who have spent their entire lives with the company working from the ground up, how many make it into this sort of leadership position? So far, the BOD has had a pretty dismal record of hiring externally competent leaders. I don’t believe Meg Whittman was brought on board for her work at Ebay - taking an internet auction-site company and making it big is a good accomplishment; but what does this have to do with managing an internationally based company that is diversified into specialized laboratory test and measurement equipment, household printers, laptops, computers, Enterprise level computing and storage solutions, Medical equipment and personal computing devices? Her background is in running a virtual company (albeit very successful), what does this have in common with running a company that’s very existence is based upon specific hardware functionality?
I question her competence, I question her integrity. I think the only reason she got this job, is based upon Politcal Correctness. If she had different plumbing, I doubt she would have even been considered for the position.
Her past tells me that she has no morals when it comes to self-promotion versus stealing from the public at large. This is not a trait one would want in a leadership role on an international stage.
I've seen AMD and Dell from the inside. I am a Net Admin with over 15 years industry experience.
As long as I don't need to EVER set foot in California, I'd take that job.

By making a slur about her decorating you are feeding into a 1950’s era stereotype that insults women.
I really don’t care if you have issues with women. Just keep your stereotypes to yourself.
I remember in the 80's, when Mr Hewlett and Mr Packard were still overseeing how HP was run. Their stuff was of the best quality and could take a beating. That was when engineers still ran things there.
Then the board members lost their minds and installed a philosophy and medieval history major as CEO.
I see, so making comments about a male being inept and spending time golfing, or watching sports is ok. But, if you insult a woman - that’s just wrong. I don’t do double-standards - so take your PC attitude and go bully someone else.
My comment/insult against Whitman stands - instead of focusing on the important problems within HP, she will likely focus on something that really doesn’t matter - but make her happy. Decorating was just an example - and I’ll wager a donut that she is probably tackling this important issue right now.
