Perry: "I Don't Think You Have a Heart" If You Oppose In-State Tuition for Children of Illegal

Full title: Perry: "I Don't Think You Have a Heart" If You Oppose In-State Tuition for Children of Illegal Immigrants

Perry's response was forceful and personal. "I don't think you have a heart," Perry told his critics.

"If you say that we should not educate children who come into our state for no other reason than that they've been brought their through no fault of their own, I don't think you have a heart," Perry said. "We need to be educating these children because they will become a drag on our society. I think that's what Texans wanted to do. Out of 181 members of the Texas legislature when this issue came up [there were] only four dissenting votes. This was a state issue. Texas voted on it. And I still support it today."

“Romney ain’t the Devil.

Well, at least you’re half right.”

The Romney ain’t the Devil part?

I didn't say it,("Romney ain’t the Devil") I was quoting someone and you know it. Don't attribute things to me that I did not say.

I also know where you are coming from as you were pushing Romney from way way back. Now you are a coward because you still support him but fear getting kicked off F.R. Romney was and still is a worthless P.O.S.and less than a man, everybody here knows it with the exception of you and a few more of your coreligionists, who put their fake religion above every other consideration.

Tell the truth flaglady47, are you pro Romney or not? By the way you have a posting history, so don't bother to tell us that you never were.

Wow, it is the wrong political climate to say these sorts of things.

Another thought too. The LAST place I want these people is our educational system filled with Marxist training. They are putty in the hands of leftists.

Perry is turning out to be another “compassionate conservative” Texas sap like W. And he will probably win, and grant amnesty. We can’t win for trying.

I agree with you, and Rush. . . .I see most everyone here throwing the baby out with the bathwater. The media is jumping all over our best hope (unless Sarah runs 3rd party) to beat the Dems. We will NEVER have the perfect candidate, but I’d prefer a tough Texan to a re-invented Hillary as president.

Do you think the children of illegals should be allowed to pay less tuition than a legal U.S. citizen from out of state? Yes or no?

Most of the children of illegals are citizens. If they did not graduate from Texas High Schools, then they should not get the in state tuition rates. Only children who graduate from high school in Texas are entitled to it. This is a States Rights issue. Dont you think Texas has a right to favor their own High School graduates over those from other states?

This is what I don’t get.

If they are legal — then pay your damn in-state tutition like the rest of us have to. And don’t go begging to have your out of state tuition covered. In fact, STOP with all the hands out begging for ANYTHING more from this country.

If they were brought here illegally - then THEY have a problem. Their parents broke the law. We dont’ reward law breakers.

Simple.

Where was the “heart” when I was trying to work MY way through school? The most “heart” I got was a loan that I had to PAY BACK. And it took me some 10 years to do it!!

Has anyone, any of these bleeding hearts considered LOANING money to these kids?? If they’re so worried about them, loan them some of YOUR money, liberals. Establish scholarship funds!!!!!! Why not? Worried you might not get paid back, then?? Oh, I see — best to just let the taxpayer pay it, and we won’t worry about having to recoup any of it.

Makes my blood boil. No more Perry — I think he’s exposed himself for who he is now — time to move on.

None of the candidates would dare to express the kind of hatred towards the children of illegal aliens that one reads on this forum. That includes Palin, who is on record favoring Amnesty and a path to citizenship for illegal aliens. I bet most of those who excoriate Perry on this issue are Palin supporters. Palin has so far managed to dodge all the hard questions that are being thrown at Perry. What are these people going to say when Palin decides to support Perry?

The nagging thing I can’t get away from is the fact that one of the most conservative states in this country passed this bill almost unanimously. That’s fact you can’t ignore. If such a conservative state (who is dealing with illegals on the scale of no other) thought it was a good idea, I begin to think that maybe there is more to this bill then just more liberal policy. Do the detective work yourself I always say.

The other nagging thing is, again, one of the most conservative states out there has elected and re-elected this man 4 times! He’s getting something right or he wouldn’t still be around, not in that state.

It’s definitely my favorite Sowell read.

The crux of it is: Leftists will use ill their ill-advised policies as a way to prop up their own sense of well being, both at the ballot box and in positions of power.

When challenged on the failings of their socialism, they get so defensive and emotional...because it ‘felt so good’ to them to steal taxpayers money and give it to the poor guy...even though in most cases they’ve harmed the poor guy’s own self esteem, and his will and drive to improve his own situation beyond repair.

Liberals fail to see that because of the emotional cloud they’ve created around their ideas, and the vision that only their anointed, kind, giving souls, can be the saviors of us all.

What is Palin's position on this issue? If Sarah Palin believed in Amnesty and a path to citizenship for these children would you strike her off your list of acceptable candidates?

Hey maybe Sarah Palin can endorse Perry? She might be able to help him recover from that screw up of a debate last night? Because you know, Perry was like the greatest candidate ever, ever, it has to be some weird fluke that he shoots himself in the foot with gaffes and takes bad positions on things like immigration, Gardasill, and other flukey mistakes like managing Al Gore’s campaign after the Reagan Revolution, right?

LOL, now that he has committed Hara Kiri on national television in front of the conservative world, there isn't going to be much of him left. Why would she support someone who has outed himself as a loser?

The man proved himself to be the sum of all fears, bumbling, wooden, pandering, W with a scowl, and just plain wrong as a candidate. He couldn't even manage a softball thrown his way to take down Romney, how the heck is he going to face down anyone on the international stage?

They were hard working and the best of them became citizens after the Reagan amnesty and proudly built wonderful small businesses that enhanced the community.

Something changed in the 1990's.

What "changed" in the 90s is the result of Reagan's amnesty became noticeable.

These were nice people, they did not take government services.

Yes they were taking government services. The Plyler v Doe Supreme Court Case decided in favor of illegals was in 1982.

Like hundreds of millions of other Americans, I didn’t watch the “debate”. They are not debates in the classic sense. They are soundite factories. Issues are not debated in these debates. The participants do not have time to properly outline their positions or challenge the positions of others. A real debate asks only one question and then the participants go at each other. In these debates the moderator gets to pick the issues that they feel will most damage those they don’t like.

If you choose a candidate or reject a candidate based on one of the gotcha questions, then your political thought process is rather shallow.

.... I have Mexican friends and I feel bad for the crap they deal with. But it’s their crap. It’s their job to deal with it. ....

I too have several friends of Mexican heritage and I will say they feel about as strongly as I do about the out of control illegal immigration problem facing Americans being they are Americans by birth themselves and they too want the illegals removed back to their home countries. They too suffer from the depressed wages, diminishing jobs and bad working conditions the illegals bring with them.

Ideally it should be the responsibility of Mexico to deal these people but sadly they to are part of the problem as they encourage northern migration of their poor and uneducated peasants to take the load off off of their own economy and place as much as they can onto our backs and economy.

I agree. Maybe someone like Bachmann or Cain could surge, but Palin seems like the best shot at saving us from Romney/Perry/Obama.

If either Perry or Romney wins the nomination, the formation of a major 3rd party may be inevitable.

Is it too much to ask that our politicians put America's citizens first? Why give rights to those who broke our laws? Is this what is now fashionable, and breaking the law(s) of our nation is a requirement to obtain citizenship and rights? If this is the way it is forever and forward in America and the way thing are going to be ... why should I or any other law-abiding citizen bother with saving this Republic for future generations? Future generations will say I was wrong for allowing this abomination. Once there was a fact of The Rule of Law being obeyed predominately within this nation, now The Rule of Law and our Constitution is shredded everyday by the ruling elite and becoming a memory. While not wanting to walk away from our nation under siege, I truly have to wonder is fighting for and trying to Preserve, Protect, and Defend this current set of circumstances being thrust upon all the law-abiding worth the effort where the lawless are looked upon with favor while the law-abiding are asked to pay for another's lawlessness. Our ruling elite have given their answer. What will be America's answer?

.... Rush did seem to be giving Perry a bunch of cover yesterday.

IMO I expect that Rush will be forced to support (shill?) for Ricardo Perry for at least a little longer since Rush now has a vested interest and a stake in the Governor. Personally I believe Rush was cringing last night while watching the debate and will be trying to come up with some good spin control come Monday while putting Perry on notice to quit putting his feet into his mouth so often.

How long Rush will continue trying to cover for his chosen dark haired boy is anyones guess at the moment. I also think Rush will consider it a challenge to pull Perry up by his shirt collar out of the trash can Perry dove into last night. Maybe Perry should put a zipper on his big mouth for awhile.

I am not without compassion for these kids who are here because their parents brought them when they were children.

I just feel there should not be even more subsidy to them that they have already received through all the other government services they have likely received before college.

It is not a matter of numbers but of principles. If they want help with tuition, let them serve in the military and earn citizenship.

I blame our government at all levels who have accommodated and subsidized illegals to the detriment of American born citizen children, a lot of who BTW can’t afford college either.

I too like Bachmann a lot and was my choice a few months back but I realize that even if Perry were to drop out today it would not do much to help her numbers. She has been marginalized so badly that she most likely could not recover. She needs some executive experience and maybe in four more years she would do better. Maybe she should run for Governor of her state or the US Senate in her state.

Perry’s done, he lost big time last night and I for one am glad.

Yep, I think Perry mortally wounded himself not only last night but also by his foolish attack on the seniors and their SS. At least that is the growing belief in the senior community. His words were poorly chosen in his attacks on the seniors. If he doesn't drop out now it will only be a matter of time before he does as he is increasingly prone to making outrageous and/or foolish public statements that undermine his credibility and electability factor. He seems to be in self-destruct mode - and that is good for America!

What about the "heart for the poor and middle-income taxpayers in TX?"

Does the good Gov. Perry care about those taxpayers who he's forcing to foot the bill for those "children who've been brought into his state through no fault of their own?"

Does he care about those who were born in TX "through no fault of their own" and now have fewer jobs, less opportunity and less money, thanks to his "heart?"

This is the exact same thinking of the Bush family - compassion for others though the taxpayers' jobs, education and money!

Oh I doubt Trump will be serious if he steps up again, more that he'll stir the soup as he did before. He's just interesting to watch and does seem to call it like it is without concern for how the public will see him.

I have no problem with putting troops on the border...it's a war going on there not just immigration issues...But the Gov. has to identify the serious problem of vast numbers of "others" Hispanics flooding in. Those numbers are nothing to blink at but that's exactly what Obama does.

MAny in south american countries are being taught spanish and change their names to mexican names....hizbollah and hamas Alkidah and other terrorists are coming thru at alarming rates, with Iran and Chavaz helping them to infilitrate...they are also joining up with cartells...and various gangs...and coming in across the Texan border as the favorite since Arizon established new laws.

He always owns up to his actions...."Too bad, Perry can't stand up to his own fellow Texans to say what is wrong, is wrong, not matter how "compassionate" it sounds.

This the same thinking that goes into Bush or anyone else, who puts his names to bills on the premise, that "they've got enough votes to override my veto."

So what, doing the right thing, for the right reason, is the right thing to do!

The people will respect you at the end of the day but most of all, you can respect yourself!

Manyillegals plan and purposely get ‘free airfare’ to their home countries for Holidays or vacations by turning themselves in when they want to return home...then they come back thru the border stream as before. Round and round it goes. There simply is no reason for this insanity...none.

I am for arming Border patrols and Military to shoot those who cross.

Heck we have military training camps where illegals cross their fields while they’re training and our guys can only watch....they cross right in front of them knowing there is nothing our guys can do to them.

Lets say you were dragged here by your parents when you were 5 and you grew up in Texas and believed you were a Texan and you worked hard and graduated from Texas high school and got good enough grades to get into a Texas State University, what should Texas do to you? Send you back to Mexico, a country you've never been to? Deport you? (BTW only the Federal Government can deport you)?

Perfect summary of the issue. A majority of Americans will not punish children for the crimes of the parents. The long term answer is to control immigration, but we will never get support for that if our position is we should deport children who were raised here.

Those “kids” aren’t going to be beneficiaries of the Texas Dream Act. You do realize that the only kids who benefit are high school grduates who are going to college?

Hogwash. C-school kids are also ‘graduates’ and I know at least one college who lowered admission standards for illegals.

My mother has called the police several times and they did nothing, except threaten to arrest her.

I am smart, and I’ve lived with this crud most of my life. That is how I know that these criminals will get into to colleges (and likely preferential treatment) under the ‘dream act’.

BTW, both of those ‘kids’ were in college.
