Romney Focuses on Obama ("It's Over. Perry is Toast")
National Journal ^ | 09/24/2011 | Ron Fournier and Rodney Hawkins

Posted on 09/25/2011 4:54:00 AM PDT by nhwingut

MACKINAC ISLAND, Mich. – Mitt Romney brushed aside criticism from his chief rival for the Republican presidential nomination Saturday night and accused President Obama of being too ignorant and naïve about the U.S. economy to lead it out of recession. “I just don’t think he’s equipped for what’s happening,” the former Massachusetts governor said. [...]

One Romney aide, speaking on condition of anonymity, overstated Romney’s strength but underscored the team’s cockiness when he said, “It’s over. Perry is toast.”

Personally I don’t know why Perry would waste his time in Mackinaw. That’s a Romney crowd at a genetic level.

No more MSM telling us who our candidates are. No more holding our nose. Finally someone who will look for solutions based on ROI. Finally a problem solver based on data not politics. He will clean Obama’s clock in a debate. If he picks Rubio omg!!!!Rubio versus Bidden. Can you imagine.

The establishment holds power in Michigan but the tea party has considerable influence as well. Palin was well received here because she came to speak to the people.

Every time Perry opens his mouth you have to wonder if he’s going to sound drunk or delusional. Not a good thing, especially when CNN et al have the goods on his lie about Gardisal and exactly when he was lobbied by the woman who eventually died. (Perry says ‘What, you think I can be bribed with a mere 5 grand?’ And anyone listening thinks, well, maybe you really needed the money. )The MSM discusses this with barely controlled satisfaction. ‘Can you trust him, he lied about this...what else is he lying about?’

I don’t see how he can recover.

I like Herman quite a bit and would certainly vote for him if he is indeed the candidate.

However, if Jim DeMint or Jake Flake would enter the ring I’d go for them as their conservative record is very clear.

No globalists and no jackass that wants to keep all the lousy agencies of the central socialist government and no candidate that wants to see diversity in his administration. With Obozo we’ve got quite enough queers and reprobates running and ruining our lives!

Is Team Romney already Ramping 'Dirty Tricks', again.

2011:

“As it became increasingly clear that Perry was
faltering, a prominent Perry supporter, state Rep.
Matt Gaetz, claimed in a Twitter post that
Romney’s campaign had been encouraging its
backers to vote for Cain. A competing rumor,
hours earlier, had the Romney camp secretly
supporting Ron Paul.“ [post 193]

Romney Ramps up Romney Dirty Tricks

2008:

"Peeking Out From the McCain Wreckage: Mitt Romney"

"Someone's got to say it: IS MITT ROMNEY RESPONSIBLE FOR OBAMA'S VICTORY?"

"Vanity: Team Romney Sabotaged Palin and Continuing to Do So?"

"Romney Supporters Trashing Palin"

"Romney advisors sniping at Palin?"

Poor sport spoiler Romney doing what he does best:

Novak: "Fred Thompson drop-out rumors traced to Romney campaign"

Said Novak: "The rumors were traced in part to Mitt Romney's campaign,
trying to stir up strife between McCain and Thompson
."

"Despite outspending his rivals by huge margins throughout the primaries,
(Mitt Romney, Carpetbagger UT,CA,MA,NH,Mexico) lost Iowa, South Carolina, Florida and California.
The only primaries he won were in Michigan, where Dad was governor; LDS states;
and a few states on Super Tuesday in which his California-obsessed rivals
couldn't spare the cash to advertise.
Only John Connolly in 1968 had a worse cash-to-delegates ratio.
And John McCain rightly did not like Romney's tactics during the primaries.
(W)hen (Romney's early leads) started slipping away, he resorted to unfair,
distorted, scorched-earth negative ads, betting that his opponents couldn't
afford to spend enough for the truth to catch up to his charges."

Gosh it’s good to see the Democrats fighting with each other. 40% of the voters in this country believe that they can control the Democrat party and use them to take money from the other 60% of the voters. All they have to do is have the Republicans fight among themselves. Dear Republican candidates; run on your record. If your record isn’t so good, tell people you’ve changed. Quit pointing out the splinter in the other candidate’s eye when you’ve got a log sticking out of your own eye.

Let's see, Herman Cain beats The Willard like a rented mule and does the Willard respond directly? No, because he is so far up the Romney/ObamaCare tree he can't climb down. But Herman Cain, God bless him, showed once for all that The Willard can't get the nomination. Moreover, even if the Rino wing, in its death throes, somehow manages to force The Willard's nomination, they will have re-elected the undocumented chimpanzee and doomed the country club wing of the Republican party - umm - no great loss.

And all Real Americans must now pray that Sarah Palin and Herman Cain are working from the same page.

Actually, I agree with Romney’s assessment.

The primary race is now a war between the Tea Party and the Establishment.

The Tea Party has chosen it’s candidate and the establishment will fight tooth and nail for the ‘moderate’ candidate of their picking. (No, it’s not racist. They just want the guy who they now will play ball.)

We are going to have to bring it hard until the caucus and, for once, the average Joe has to actually show up to vote.

We’ll get the candidate that we deserve.

You know what this article reminds me of? One day back in 2004 I walked by a local lib weekly with the cover story “How Kerry Can Still Win the Nomination,” and I laughed at how clueless that paper was. Everyone, and I mean everyone, knew there was no way Kerry would be the Dem nominee.

The same minds that made the problems we face..are not capable of the solutions. That tosses out the two putative “front runners” right there. That’s called a dose of reality.

What other minds may rise to the top? That’s what the 2012 Republican Primary season is about. So far of all the runners...as far as I can tell, Cain is the freshest mind out there.

Perry and Romney stepped over the people to get directly to the perceived power brokers in Michigan. They seriously underestimate the strength of the tea party movement in Michigan.

Stating Perry's demise is a bit too soon...

Rick Perry won the Wakulla Republican Club’s straw poll, held on its website on Wednesday, Thursday, and Friday.

The votes were:

Rick Perry – 42.86%
Mitt Romney - 28.57 %
Herman Cain – 19.05%
Jon Huntsman – 9.52%

The remaining candidates – Michele Bachmann, Newt Gingrich, Gary Johnson, Ron Paul, and Rick Santorum received no votes.

Gordon McCleary, the Wakulla Republican Club’s President said, “It will be interesting to see how this vote matches up with Presidency 5. Wakulla mirrors the makeup of the Sunshine State so I believe the results are representative of Republicans as a whole.”

If Romney was behind Cain’s win (which I doubt),the cure may be worse than the disease, for them. Cain needed a breakout, needed to get out from the bottom tier and gain national publicity. If by sabotaging Perry, Romney created a candidate conservatives could unify around (assuming Sarah stays out) it could be the means to prevent a repeat of McLame. The conservative vote has to unify around one candidate or we end up with Romney (unless Christie jumps in to dilute the establishment vote).

“Perry will still be the nominee...no matter how you feel about him.”

I was just fine with him through 2 debates. The last debate he alternated between stammering like a drunken fool and insulting 81% of the electorate, including me.

“Just wait till Cain is truly vetted...ain’t goin’ to be pretty. Just wait till he is completely trashed...it’s a comin’”

Who forced Perry to lose the ability to communicate at the debate other than when he was personally insulting me and 81% of the rest of the electorate?
