FACT...... Besides I have Cain and yes even Palin as fallback positions. Count Perry out at your own peril. Have observed him in several campaigns, he has a certain magic to just smile and look down like a dumb ol country boy.
That may have worked on Texas voters when he was running against certified RINOs, comedians, Truthers, moonbat libs, and assorted non-starters, but it ain't gonna play against his current competition on the national stage.

I sortof say watch Cain. Even with the “tough row to hoe” as a non-politician, he (at the moment) is catching fire. WITH ME TOO! Having had the pleasure to watch (in the old days) black on black High School football, I am not sure America is ready really for a black on black dirty POTUS campaign.
Much as I (also) hold out a bit of hope for Palin, she really doesn’t appear to want in.

Agreed. The man is most definitely catching fire. Heard him on Hannity today, and he said that after the last debate, his fundraising went back to its former levels. According to Herman, his fundraising had been depressed by the media making the primary into a two man race over the last couple of weeks.
I really like Herman Cain. Next to Palin, he's the best we've got, in my opinion. If by some miracle, Sarah does not wind up running, he'll get my vote in the primary.
That said, it's clear to 90% of those who are well-informed, and who closely follow politics, that she's in. The exact timing of her announcement is the only remaining mystery. She has said that she'll let the people know what her decision is in late September - early October, so it's coming soon.
We joke about it, but when Palin steps in, I expect that some libs will go through some real emotional instability. They're that sick.
I think that you deserve some details on that.
Rick Santorum campaigns for president today as his own man, but 16 years ago he and other Pennsylvania Republican politicians supported Arlen Specter for president.
Rick’s faith or values are above criticism from me, but he is a Republican political machine player all the way.
This was best illustrated in 2004 when he was sent out from DC to Alaska where a Senate primary was underway between Lisa Murkowski (Pro-Abortion) and a challenger named Mike Miller who was Pro-Life.
Santorum was there to strong arm the local pro-life organization from endorsing Miller over Murkowski.
Last year as a Fox News analyst Santorum pooh poohed the idea that Murkowski’s winning a write-in candidacy over Tea Party Republican Joe Miller was a bad thing.
Santorum said she would be a vote for the Republicans and that was good.
You could have knocked me over with a feather when I heard of Cain's very solid win in the Florida straw poll -- a kind of landslide, wasn't it? And am I correct in thinking that particular straw poll is a historically reliable indicator of the eventual Repulican nominee? I don't know, but recall reading that it's been accurate for the past few decades. Maybe someone knows offhand?
My mom and I were talking about this just an hour or so ago. We both (and my wise Dad, too) have been hoping to see Palin as our next president because, in a nutshell, everything that we learn about her confirms that she's "the real deal," walks the walk, has lived a life that demonstrates it.
But Cain is clearly connecting in a big way, and he's WORTHY! I can't be the only one wondering: if Palin gets in, might she split Cain's support, a bad thing because it might help the real danger, the real vampire, Romney? Romney MUST have a stake put through his political heart. He's dangerous as long as he's got a political heartbeat. He is BAD NEWS for all of us, AS BAD AS ANY DEMOCRAT, including Obama, and worse in a way because as president, he would suck the blood out of the Republican party and leave nothing but a bloodless corpse.
Whereas if Obama, Hillary, or a yet-to-be-named Democrat took the White House in 2012, most of America would be furiously opposed, and Tea Party conservatives would infuse the Republican party with such healthy new blood that Congress would make a HARD RIGHT TURN.
Considering the whole picture from a detached place, it's clear that THERE ARE WORSE THINGS THAN ANOTHER FOUR YEARS OF OBAMA or whoever is nominated in his stead. And Romney would be one of those worse things.
SO -- my mom and I both agreed that we don't care who's at the top of the ticket, whether it's Cain or Palin -- we'd vote for that ticket with hearts positively swelling with hope and pride and confidence that we were voting FOR the right thing. For too long, we have only been voting against the wrong thing. With either Palin or Cain, we'd be voting FOR THE RIGHT THING.
Personally, I'd love it it worked out such that Cain and Palin announced together, side by side, an agreement, that either Cain dropped out and WOULD BE Palin's VP, or vice-versa, that Palin wouldn't enter but WOULD be Cain's VP(like I say, I don't care which one was at the top of the ticket, and you know what? I don't think real Tea Partiers would, either). I think a Cain-Palin or Palin-Cain ticket would win in such an enormous landslide that it would bring tears of joy to the eyes of every American patriot.
My sweetheart said, "Well, Palin would probably never settle for the VP slot again, that would be very unusual." My answer: Palin is an unusual kind of politician. And I am convinced that her ego is outside of the whole thing enough for her not to care about the title -- she's got the "servant's heart," and if that means being Cain's VP and helping him spot and avoid the kinds of government political gamesmanship that he's not had to deal with as much as she has in his career, then I think she'd do it.
I'd vote for that ticket with pure joy no matter who was at the top of it, knowing that a team was at the helm that can truly turn this American ship away from the shoals of statism and socialism where it's heading now, and the course that Romney (and Perry to a lesser degree) would keep it headed.
My gut tells me that Herman Cain is as much "the real deal" as Palin. But that's just my gut -- though with Palin, it's not gut, it's informed conclusion.
Your sweetheart is right. Sarah said in "Going Rogue" that she would never run as a VP candidate again. She's come too far in this process to not run, and when she does, it will be for president.
She's still my first choice, but I am warming up to Cain. I think he'd get my vote, if, by some miracle, Sarah didn't enter the race.
I wouldn't get too excited about Herman's big week, just yet. It's a long way to the nomination, and the supposed 'front runner' position has changed hands over and over, as one or another candidate stepped on their own tongue, or something damaging came out about them.
We're still in the vetting process with most of these candidates, Finny, and Cain is one of those who is still under the microscope. He's a good man from all that I've seen thus far, but he's still got to prove that he deserves to be propelled into the presidency.
We'll see.

Thank you for the summary, did not know he helped Murkowski, that is stunning to me. WHat was the motivation of him doing THAT, was he paid well?
Rick was doing what the folks in Washington (GOP leadership) wanted him to do.
He was protecting an insider politician (Murkowski) from an outsider.
It was really not much different from the work he did in the spring of 2004 protecting Arlen Specter from Pat Toomey in the PA Senate Primary.
Santorum is also very close to the National Right To Life Committee, which is an arm of the GOP insider political machine and his job was to make sure the local affiliate bowed to the political machine and did not endorse the Pro-Life challenger to Pro-Abortion Murkowski.
National Right To Life plays the political game inspite of its name willing to throw Pro-Life candidates not considered “electable” over the side in primary situations.
