A Palin presidency: Too “shackle-y?”
That’s what Sarah Palin suggested on Fox News’ “On The Record with Greta VanSusteren” tonight, saying that she’s concerned jumping into the 2012 presidential race will muffle her message.
“Is a title worth it?” she asked, rhetorically. “Does a title shackle a person? Are they someone like me who’s maverick? I do go rogue and I call it like I see it and I don’t mind stirring it up in order to get people to think and debate aggressively.”
“Is a title and a campaign too shackle-y?,” she continued. “Does that prohibit me from being out there, out of a box, not allowing handlers to shape me and to force my message to be what donors or what contributors or what pundits want it to be? Does a title take away my freedom to call it like I see it and to affect positive change that we need in this country? That’s the biggest contemplation piece in my process.”
Palin expressed a concern about “being caricatured” if she runs, and asked again “whether a title is needed to make a difference or someone can be rogue, can be maverick, can be passionate about issues and can get people to think very wisely about issues.”...

Actually old Bob Dole on Viagra crushed any expectation I had of politicians literally being 'statesman'.... Reverse mortgages are much easier to explain to young children than Dole pushing Viagra.
Definitely would agree. The thing still giving me hope is her integrity. Really believe she would never let her troops work/spend their time and money in Iowa, NH, etc. if she wasn't running. If wrong, then she certainly would lose much of my high opinion of her.
Plus it makes no sense why she would spend all this time in the lower 48 (bus, speeches, etc) if she was not running.
The article isn’t accurate. She didn’t say “shackle-y” she said “shackling.” Watch the clip and turn your volume up so you can hear it. I listened three times. She clearly says “shackling”. This transcript is an attempt to discredit her by implying she’s making up words.
Arguing arguendum from your hypothetical counts as an admission of anything only in your dream world.
So Sarah Palin is boosting her daughter’s book... shock, gasp. How venal can one be for choosing who you’ll autograph for? Why you’d think Sarah Palin had never heard of that sensible policy called socialism.
Speaking of which, you dream when you say most of the USA is to the left of RINOs (e.g. John McCain). The fight over abortion has put the greatest focus on this: 9 out of 10 Americans think that abortion policy should be stricter than the actual legal status quo facts on the ground.
Actually, after thinking about this a few more minutes...I would still have a good opinion of Ms. Palin. After all, her family, safety, good life, etc., would be put on the line again.

She’s got an open door to effective service open in front of her, IMHO. Actually two doors. One that says run, one that says don’t. But as you said earlier, she wouldn’t have bothered putting out a presence into the lower 48 if she wasn’t weighing a run heavily. Those who complain about her capitalistic bent at the moment crack me up — her quasi-campaign is not cheap, based as she is in Alaska, and not somewhere more convenient like Kansas.

Hang in there. She is playing with the elites' heads. She has the left and the PDSers in a screaming rage. They cannot control her or figure her out. She stays ahead of them. They are coming unhinged about it. Just look around you.
Understand where Sarah comes from and how she thinks. You can figure out how she thinks by watching what she does and knowing about where she grew up.
On the West Coast the orient is large cultural influence and very integrated into everyday life. Her actions say "Sun Tzu".
Sarah moves like a martial arts fighter. In martial arts one tactic used is to smile or laugh at your opponent to drive them crazy and therefore putting them off guard.

Your analysis is spot on. There’s no way she will get any media coverage at all if she doesn’t run.

I think Palin is deathly afraid of having to run in the primary against 7 or 8 other candidates. Look how difficult it is to "break-out" unless you are the front-runner. Look how little time someone like Santorum or Cain gets.
In 2008, Palin was handed the stage...she was the next-generation MAVERICK and believed it would position her for a relatively uncontested nomination in 2012.
It has not worked out that way and she is hesitating because it would mean a pay cut for her and a reduction in her popularity. She would lose the stage McCain gave her.
I also snicker at those who things she is stringing this out because of the money. Don’t believe greed is part of her make-up.
The cash she has already banked over the last couple of years has secured her family’s future.
Sounds to me like she is Auditioning for Bill O Reillys Gig.

I believe that Sarah would outshine both Perry and Romney pretty quick upon an actual announcement of her candidacy. The one thing she can’t do before that announcement is to make campaign promises. And (credible) campaign promises make the candidate.
She might break with tradition and announce a prospective running mate early, so as to minimize the pain for that person who can then drop from the picture until the proper time. If she’s thinking Cain or Bachmann, that might make sense for her.
She certainly would not be in the world’s most enviable spot, going toe to toe with that Chicago punk thug in Washington. You know, the one who brings guns when the others come with knives. So Sarah Palin basically has to walk in with a nuke. That nuke may be very close to ready, but she needs it to work when she comes on the stage.
She would have the spotlight for a short time --- like Perry. It would be then her job to seal the deal.
Perry thought he could sew-up the nomination quickly without having to work at it too much. He let his ego get inflated by those around him and he made the leap right into the flames.
Palin is smart enough to know that she is not going to just walk-in and walk-away with the nomination. She will be the target-du-jour based on her name recognition and instant popularity. They will chop her down using everything they can --- even if some is false (Perry was the victim of both real and false accusations).
I think, if she really wanted to run, she should be putting policy ideas on the table now, like Cain's 9-9-9 Plan. Those policy ideas would pave the way for her nomination.
Palin has more to lose than to gain.
If running is still a possibility in her mind, she doubtless already has her campaign promises mapped out, including policy proposals. I think she hasn’t put them out yet because she doesn’t want to hurt the other candidates if she takes door #2 instead of door #1 (and it may be they look a whole lot like Cain’s or Bachmann’s).
Well said. This is her chance. She will be “hurt” just as much by not running as finishing 3-4 as others have said.
