So you think a state has the constitutional authority to take away your 2nd amendment right to keep and bear arms?

Am I understanding you correctly? I don’t think I am. You’ve always been pro 2nd amendment rights.

I ONLY!!! vote for pro-2A candidates.

Michelle Bachmann and Sarah Palin are both pro-gun.

Cain flunks the gun rights test.

Although Cain says he supports the Second Amendment, in the next breath he says he fully supports any and all state gun control/prohibitions.

That is like supporting federal rights for women and blacks, but allowing women and blacks to be slaves if the state laws permit them to be slaves.

I will not support any candidate who allows, and favors, individual states to outlaw guns, or to take away womens voting rights, or to allow slavery, or to prohibit free speech, etc. .

‘Add in promoting the fairy tax, which has now morphed into 999 as a first step.’

The plan is a starting point. None the less, it would lower taxes on many that pay taxes now. It eliminates the payroll taxes on Medicare and Medicaid which is 7.65% for all workers. This DOES NOT include the 8% or more, that the employer pays on the employees behalf.

The flat 9% on Business would make the U.S. one of the lowest effective tax rate for business taxes in the World. It would be a boon to businesses and subsequently job creation.

I hate the sales tax, however, it would capture a large amount of people who pay no taxes on income by working under the table, IE ILLEGAL ALLIENS!. All states have a payroll tax, so the collection is already done for the government.

The IRS can be eliminated or scaled back to bare bones and yo could do your tax returns in two minutes on the size of a post card.

My wife and I spend many hours reporting our taxes even with Software. We also have boxes of records and dozens of pages of tax returns every year and like I told her ‘We don't even make any money to speak of!”

You’re pushing too hard.

Your Cain on gun control post is a paraphrase of a paraphrase of a snippet of a quote, without the full context of the quote being provided.

The actual snippet is:

““… yes, that (gun legislations) should be a state’s decision.”
June 7, 2011 , An interview with CNN’s Wolf Blitzer “

I actually agree with him. And he probably agrees with me that, as is normal, whatever legislation is passed in any state cannot violate the US constitution.

“Cain seriously worried me when he said his choice for vice president would be Mitt Romney”

Come on now, he said that jokingly in rhyming with regard to the titles of his and Romney's economic plans. He then answered seriously that he would choose Gingrich.

True, but it also ‘captures’ every dime of SS, dividends from tax free municipal bonds, etc. Then it taxes savings which have have already been taxed by another 9%.

Businesses get to deduct all sorts of things under the 999 plan, but individuals only get to deduct charitable contributions.

It has zero chance of ever passing.

There have been suspicions in the way Cain wouldn’t in the least criticize Romney that he was, like Bachmann, egged (with whatever motivations Romney’s cash-rich campaign might have offered) into the campaign in an effort to dilute the conservative (and possibly the Palin) vote.

Really neither of them has the credentials to run seriously on his or her own.

Drudge has put the results of the Rasmussen poll up and I think the take away should be not to concentrate on Herman Cain but to look at the trajectory as one sees the sequence of polls beginning on June 24 when Obama was beating Gingrich 48% to 30% right on through to this last poll which he dates at September 26 in which Obama finds his margin reduced to 39% to 34% over Cain.

My take is that one could substitute virtually any Republican wannabe's name in these last few polls and one would obtain substantially the same results because Obama is crashing and whoever Rasmussen puts up against him last is the greatest beneficiary.

It is my hypothesis that the less we have the fear on the issue of electability the wider our scope to nominate a hard conservative. I take this as bad news for Romney, good news for Cain, of course, but also good news for Rick Santorum, Bachmann, and, yes, Newt Gingrich.

He supported Romney in 2008.

Romney's noted only he and Cain have private sector experience in the debates.

Of those on stage, Cain said he'd consider Romney for VP.

There's clearly a mutual admiration thing there.

Restrict, or prohibit? Some restrictions are perfectly fine with me, like no guns in schools. No guns in stadiums, arenas and bars.

So you think a state has the constitutional authority to take away your 2nd amendment right to keep and bear arms?

The issue is whether Cain was correct in stating that states can restrict gun rights with legislation. The Supreme Court has consistently found that some state regulation of firearms is permitted under the 2nd Amendment, see http://www.supremecourt.gov/opinions/09pdf/08-1521.pdf. An example of this is the restrictions on people carrying a concealed firearm. Such restrictions by states have been found not to violate the 2nd Amendment. Therefore, the right to carry can be restricted, at least to some extent, by state legislatures. State legislatures, therefore, is where people went to get the restrictions changed.

Herman Cain was not incorrect in his statement.

Not good for Obummer. Herman Cain is well known in the inner city community, at least around here. I go back to the old neighborhood once in a while to go to church. I’m thinking he could probably take at least 25% of the vote, although few black people in the old neighborhood want to admit that they would vote for a Republican candidate, even if he’s black. I’m thinking the 20% is silent torrying from the black community.

Please show a source showing Cain supporting affirmative action. He’s on record as being against quotas, as shown by this 2004 article:

http://chronicle.augusta.com/stories/2004/04/28/op_413767.shtml

“But the court gave the go-ahead to the University of Michigan law school to consider race on a case-by-case basis. This is very tricky. If it means that economically impoverished kids who happen to be minorities should get consideration for assistance, that’s great. If that means that minorities get slots in place of white kids with better academic credentials, then that is not fair.

College acceptance should be based on how well a student has performed and excelled in school. Like everything else in life, people need to earn what they get, and earn it by working hard. Quotas are not the answer and they never will be.”
