Posted on 09/29/2011 12:43:50 AM PDT by Wolfstar
Sarah Palin certainly didn't sound interested in running for president last night.
"Is a title worth it-- does a title shackle a person?" the former Alaska governor asked during a discussion of her 2012 plans with Fox News' Greta Van Susteren. "Someone like me, who's maverick--you know I do 'go rogue' and I call it like I see it and I don't mind stirring it up ... [for] somebody like me, is a title and is a campaign too shackling?"
"Does a title take away my freedom to call it like I see it and to effect positive change that we need in this country? That's the biggest contemplation piece in my [decision] process," Palin said.
Palin said Tuesday that time is running out. Filing deadlines, requiring candidates to register to appear on state presidential primary ballots, are approaching in several states.

She needs to go away if she is not running w her games she is playing.
I do not care if people like or dislike Sarah. However, the misrepresentation of what Sarah ‘asked’ was in response to a specific question by Greta. Sarah was NOT addressing the office of president at this point in the interview.
She was describing what happens when a person announces their candidacy and the ‘title’ and expectations of that candidate take on a life of their own. She specifically pointed to the ‘title’ of veep she wore in the 2008 campaign and how media and campaign handlers controlled how she was to appear to US. AND as an announced candidate the expectations would be of her to join the crowd of other candidates at some liberal media produced sound bite recording.
Any of the Perry supporters out there wish Perry had stayed home last debate? I mean, really now, he has sent his woman to Iowa to smooth over his rough edges. H E L L O??????
Possible, as anything may be, but highly unlikely. Want to know what would be a perfect scenario for Palin? Assume Bolton, or a similar type, is next Sec of State. She should be Under Sec for four years.
I don’t think she wants to run because she is aware of the fact there is a job at the end of all the hoopla. A job that is shackling.
Palin seems to be the type that likes the campaign more than what follows it.
She has been campaining for a couple years without having to actually run.
Best of both worlds. She gets attention and financial security without having to take on the problems.
If anyone believes that being elected President in 2012 as a Republican is going to be all glory without horrifying obstructions and constant hateful opposition, they aren’t paying attention.
This is really crap from Palin, except she didn’t say she would be shackled, but she posed a question.
She’s never in her career preferred to remain an independent non-shackled individual. She’s been clawed at since she paired with McCain not because she was a threatening independent voice, but because she had the obvious potential for being president.
She has no interest in shouting from the sidelines.
I tire of her games, pretending to be on the verge of running only to delay announcing. She is hurting other people in the race. She is starting to look like all she wants is the media attention she gets when she appears and pretends to be getting ready to announce. She told us she would announce by the end of September, well. If she doesn’t get in the race I for one am done with her. And flame away I’m a big guy and can handle it.
It didn't seem to bother Ronaldus Maximus. Read his diary, Sarah, please.
I am reluctant to reply as I believe you’re an oddball, but, allow me to state what will transpire on this site if Perry gets the nod: Anyone submitting demeaning posts about him will be ousted. Just as in ‘08, when McCain was raked over the coals, UNTIL he won the nomination. So suck it up, perhaps grow up, and deal with it.
Agree. I don't support Perry now, but will 'get over it' and vote for him if it he becomes the nominee. But what if Romney gets the nomination? I won't be 'getting over it' then. Will we all still be allowed to write "FUMR" without getting the big ZOT?
I hate to say it, and it’s not a shot at her abilities, but she was chosen to counteract the Dems picking Obama.
She was almost unknown until she came out of the blue.
SecDef job goes to a neocon. Rumsfeld, Cheney, Wineberger, Rumsfeld.
Don't go for the head fake (she's a basketball player) - the deception is not aimed at us, she's on our team.
These quotes, even moreso than the Christie quotes, are like a conservative Rorschach Test.
She’s on the team.
She’s just not the captain you are looking for.
Here is a woman who stepped up to help the GOP out when asked. Trust me, they needed her help more than she needed them. After McCain lost the race, and she was back in Alaska, where was the GOP? She is getting smacked with lawsuit after lawsuit after the national election, ie helping the GOP, where were they? I'll tell you where McCain was. He was on Leno MOCKING Sarah Palin.
She worked tirelessly on the 2010 campaign, while Rove was stabbing us in the back. Of course the elites in the GOP were piling on too. Babara Bush, She needs to stay in Alaska etc.
Sarah Palin owes me nothing, I on the other hand, owe her alot. She has really opened my eyes to the GOP and who they really are.
The crap she has had to put up with from the left was bad enough, but to have the party you are helping stab you in the back......WOW.
I hope she decided to run, and I think she will. If not I will vote for a conservative. That's it. Cain or Bachmann. If you guys want to disagree with policy fine, but honestly this mocking, you should be ashamed of yourself.
Sad, real thinkers used to frequent FR. Not so much any more.
Meanwhile, in other news...
So Todd Palin has closed his commercial fishing company?
A bit like Obama in 2008. People saw what they wanted to see. Never mind the details.
Save the ink and pull for Zero.
It doesn’t make much sense.
If she’s running for the top spot, her “handlers” work for her, not the other way around.
The prescient warning from Ben Franklin appears to be bearing fruit.
I know it’s tempting to give in to cynicism but I can feel it in the air that history is about to be made, in the coming elections for POTUS. My words might sound a trifle dramatic now but when it actually happens, it will all seem so natural that we might end up wondering what the fuss was all about. So keep the faith.
Golly Geez Grizzly Bears why would you write in anyone that doesn’t want to be President?
When someone says being POTUS is like being shackled I can’t believe they have my Country’s best interest at their core.
I think Sarah has gotten a taste of the Good Life and likes the money, attention and glamor.
Gone and soon forgotten.
I often wonder who is home with the kids?
You make her sound mercenary...
“Citizen Palin would be infinitely less effective than President Palin...”
Sarah and I seem to have mostly similar policy positions, but her personality is starting to bug me.
In politics, titles empower.
It’s the mind which shackles.
Constantly reminding people about how rogue-y and maverick-y she views herself does not help her cause in my mind. Her ex, McCain, has done the same for decades.
Doers do things. And leave the judging of style to the observer of things done. And undone.
I’m not entirely clear on when roguish behavior became a virtue or accomplishment in and of itself. But I’ve seen the videos of when an elephant goes rogue. Lots of stuff happens. None of it good.
The rogue-iest mom in Wasilla might stomp on an occasional zoo keeper, but she ain’t gonna veto an increase in my taxes. While even the most traditional/insider/establishment/shackle-y titled Republican candidates have promised that and much more.
Primary season is the time when we encourage CANDIDATES to behave differently than incumbents. You got a new idea? Get up on the dang stage with the rest of the mavericks and mavens and let’s hear your pitch. If you or your ideas can’t stand the competition then, go ahead, start crashing through huts and squishing villagers. Reality TV always has room for another rogue.
She could always quit.
There is no valid reason for this incessant vitriol against Sarah Palin by some posters.
According to the resident concern trolls, the time is way past for Sarah to get in. But, gee, I don’t see the same criticism of Gov. Christie now that he is “reconsidering” whether to run or not.
Also, In a search I did, looking for last Sunday nights comment, I found an old post from Jim Robinson stating that since Gov. Palin was the VP pick, he changed his position on McCain.
Mecenary - yes. I haven’t seen her do anything for anyone else in the Party other than criticize from the sideline and get paid for her commentary.
You are right-she is mercenary. She will walk away or continue to play the game if there are Media Outlets that will book her for interviews.
...she knows she can't win!
Palin isnt panning out.
...So, I shall continue to wear my Rock Perry button ...
Her time is running out. She has done the most damage to herself at this time. ...
If She is sincere about her political aspirations, She should be unifying the party. Im not seeing that happen...so far. ...
Get over her already.
She needs to go away if she is not running w her games she is playing. ...
I dont think she wants to run because she is aware of the fact there is a job at the end of all the hoopla. ...
That's just halfway down the thread. Lot's of PDS around FR! I'd like to think that there were smarter people than those making these comments, but realize they are just hacks vying for her role replacement.
I have been a Palin supporter since the "coming out" speech at the last Convention. Before then, I knew her name, but nothing else. Then, I studied hard and came to a conclusion. Now, I am convinced that she has the goods, AND ABILITY, to sweep the contry to a new horizon. We could see true "hope and change", with her at the helm.
I will be extremely disappointed if she decides not to run, but I still believe she will. She would have told us NO, if she had no plans, IMHO. Until she declares, she can continue to make the waves necessary to "rock the boat". Everyone else is just holding on!
Elect Sarah Palin for President 2012
Re-Elect President Sarah Palin 2016
Sarah Palin on Wednesday, September 28, 2011 at 5:31pm
On Monday, during a fundraiser in California, President Obama declared that Europes debt problems and their inability to solve them was scaring the world. He went on to explain that Europeans have not fully healed from the crisis back in 2007 and never fully dealt with the challenges that their banking system faced and that theyre trying to take responsible actions, but those actions havent been quite as quick as they need to be.
This of course is coming from a President who has done nothing to deal with our own countrys enormous debt crisis and who is in fact eager to incur even more debt with another useless stimulus bill (now called a jobs bill though the last stimulus failed to produce the jobs it promised, which is perhaps why Harry Reid doesnt seem too eager to bring this new bill to a vote despite the Presidents demands to pass this bill). Yes, Europe has serious debt problems, but for President Obama to be lecturing our allies about not being quite as quick in dealing with a debt crisis is downright hypocritical.
When his all-too-common finger-pointing is directed at Republicans, President Obamas search for a scapegoat is swallowed as merely the typical Beltway politics of our permanent political class. But pointing fingers at our allies when they are working to get their own financial house in order is counterproductive and can have a serious negative affect on our ability to lead the free world.
One German newspaper denounced the Presidents comments as overbearing, arrogant, and absurd. Another wrote: The gloomy state of the economy is putting a damper on Obamas future prospects. The optimism of the past is gone, replaced by a cheap search for a scapegoat. And still another wrote: Thats not how friends talk to each other. That applies particularly to friends who have themselves failed to get a handle on their own, self-made crisis.
Can we blame them for feeling this way? Keep in mind this was a President who was supposed to make the rest of the world like us again.
Its about time the President showed some leadership and took responsibility rather than campaigning on blaming everyone else for the financial mess his policies have exacerbated.
Between President Obamas hypocritical lecture poking our allies in the eye again and one Democrat governors call to postpone lawfully mandated elections for two years, I suppose nothing should surprise concerned Americans anymore. But that doesnt mean we have to accept these misguided memes. 2012 cant come soon enough. "
- Sarah Palin (FaceBook post yesterday!)
Here’s what really sad. I can’t tell if their democrats or GOP operatives.
Here’s what really sad. I can’t tell if their democrats or GOP operatives.
When did this happen? Every single time I have seen Christie on TV, he has reiterated OVER & OVER that he is NOT considering a run. I don't know how much plainer he can say it. Dick Morris threw a hissy fit last night, he was so distraught about it - the beltway elites are dying for Christie to run, and so far - he's not going for it.
At least Christie knows in his heart what is right for him - I respect that he is willing to not let people dangle while he "decides". You either know deep in your heart that you are going for it - or you don't. If you have had since 2008 to think about it & now - you still don't know...it's not right for you...there's still a nagging inner voice that's saying NO.
She knows that if she jumps in & fails to win the nomination - her influence is DONE. If she really can't decide at this point - she shouldn't run. And if this is some kind of "brilliant" strategy of hers and it pans out - well then, I'll eat crow I guess.
To 65- I agree with most of this post, but it’s not like she took the same risk as our Founders, (all whom very well could have been hanged). Rather, she came out of it a very wealthy lady. No one disputes her untiring efforts, but some have become repulsed by her lecturing, and more so by many of her rabid followers. Sarah Palin has stated many truisms, but nothing de Toqueville, Jefferson, Franklin, Reagan, et al, haven’t previously noted.
It's a field full of very flawed candidates (all of whom could beat the Zero, though).
List 'em all in one column, and fill up the next with their negatives - Perry, Romney, Caine, Bachmann - all have "soft spots".
Or maybe a Ron Paul/Huntsman ticket........
Many forget just how young a woman SP is! She can finish raising her family in AK, create projects/foundations, continue commenting on TV, writing books, whatever SHE wants for 8-12 years and still be plenty young - and a LOT more seasoned - IF she ever wants to run for POTUS. Holding that Office isn’t the be all an end all.
To my thinking, it IS a shackling job. After the SCOTUS decision in ‘00, a TV commentator spoke of how GWB’s life would never again be the same. Forget about the ‘prison’ of the White House, he’d never live another day of his life without SS just feet away. None of that suits a free spirit like SP who CAN accomplish an awful lot without giving up her own life.
Please point to me where in my post I compared her to the founding fathers. I am comparing her to the current crop of GOP.
Her facebook posts where she lectures Obama repulse you? because, Im cheering at those. Or, are you talking about when she answers a question about current candidates? Wow, someone who answers a question repulses you.
Heres what repulses me. I have voted R all my life. I have been bullied by the right, if you dont vote for XYZ the Dem will win.
Where was the GOP when Obama got the nomination? Why didn'tt they do their job and ask for his birth cert. Instead a patriotic man had to be court martialed.
Where was the GOP when the corrupt group called ACORN was going around getting bogus registrations? Basically stealing elections. Young people without a title had to take them on.
Where were the GOP on the junk science of global warming? I believe they were reaching across the aisle to make things not so bad. Fortunately someone without a title sent in incriminating e-mails.
Where were the GOP after campaigning on cutting 1B from Gov. spending, getting a pittance with the assurance that well get them next time.
The GOP, for the first time, had Sarah Palin, a person who drew more people while running for VP than the top of the ticket. They have a grassroots movement, which has not been seen in my lifetime, in the tea party. And they cant figure out how to use these two things together?
I would say they are the party of stupid, but honestly, I dont believe that. I really think they just have a different agenda for my country than I do.
One more thing, Conservatives always vote. But when you dont give people ammunition with which to have a ground game you lose. That is why they lose when they run people like McCain. How can I go to my friends, neighbors, family, and co-workers and say vote for McCain, the guy who supports amnesty, after coming out against such policy. I would look like the biggest hypocrite. So instead, I keep my head down, my mouth shut and vote. All the while getting yelled at by the GOP talk guys, if you dont go vote for XYZ the evil Dem will be elected.
Its the ground game that is missing. With the Anybody But Obama crowd ratcheting up, it looks like they are going for the same plan again.
I have a better plan for the Anybody but Obama people, Go talk to Hillary. Im sure she would love to beat Obama. You would get half the Dem vote, all the ABO crowd, and wont have to bully conservatives to win.
Mecenary - yes. I havent seen her do anything for anyone else in the Party other than criticize from the sideline and get paid for her commentary.
Lol! Sat out the 2010 elections did ya?
Maybe you should crawl back under the rock you spent the 2010 election cycle under.
She can always quit the race if the going gets tough.
Yeah, I know. Why should I have expected that after having an 80%+ approval rating in Alaska that the GOP owed her any help after helping McCain.
It’s good to know that when she was being slapped with lawsuit after lawsuit, the GOP and McCain have so little clout, they can’t stop it, or even offer monetary help to her so she doesn’t have to step down. No, instead McCain was on Leno mocking her.
What great guys I’ve voted for.
She knows that if she jumps in & fails to win the nomination - her influence is DONE
Really? Even Bubba Clinton still has influence--and he was impeached.Hillary lost the nomination--she still has influence as SoS. And after her defeat in 2008, Palin went on to rally conservatives and the Tea Party resulting in the historic 2010 elections.
Americans love a comeback kid. So, no matter what happens, Sarah will have influence.
It's the Tokyo Rove/Bill Kristol/George Will/Charles Krauthammers that will have to find a scraper to rid their faces of egg.She doesn't fit into their view of the world.
No, she did not. And, please tell us how one would earn the title of POTUS without campaigning.
Footnote is looking for the escape hatch but hasn't yet found the magic words that won't make her look foolish.
That depends soley on what her agenda is. If she means to run (not likely) then you are right. But, if her intention is to continue her post-quit wealth chase then she is not hurting herself at all.
She has a pay-to-see-her event in October with Glen Beck. she would lose box-office if she were to squelch a run before then. People want to see Sarah) the possible POTUS, not Sarah() the ex-governor.
She may be thinking in that realm, which to some extent has its merits.
Then why not declare, as he did, that this is her intention? I don't recall Newt doing this dance of the seven veils.
