Rick Perry’s Texas hunting spot's racially charged name lingered. [Wabbit season! Troll season!]

Paint Creek, Tex. — In the early years of his political career, Rick Perry began hosting fellow lawmakers, friends and supporters at his family’s secluded West Texas hunting camp, a place known by the name painted in block letters across a large, flat rock standing upright at its gated entrance.

“Niggerhead,” it read.

The name of this particular parcel did not change for years after it became associated with Rick Perry, first as a private citizen, then as a state official and finally as Texas governor.

As Herman Cain said this morning, that is/was “insensitive” and it sounds like Perry took care of it (it’s been painted over.) I’m trying to figure out how it got the name to begin with.... More importantly, when is the black community going to be outraged with rappers who use that word with impunity? I’m waiting.....snooze.

Shows early signs of a lack of judgement and political savvy and that can't be good for him in the long run.
Hopefully there are not other unknowns in the wood pile to come out and bite him in the ass.

Isn’t that named after a type of rock formation? Old timers around here referred to certain rocks that were virtually impossible to break with a sledge hammer as “niggerheads”.

They had virtually no seams that would allow them to fracture.

A "niggerhead" is a big rock you hit when digging a ditch.

Just a guess.

Rick Perry disputes Washington Post story on slur

“Governor Perry and his family never owned, controlled or managed the property referenced in the Washington Post story. The 42,000-acre ranch is owned by the Hendricks Home for Children, a West Texas charity.

“Perry’s father painted over offensive language on a rock soon after leasing the 1,000-acre parcel in the early 1980s..."

“I’m trying to figure out how it got the name to begin with..”

Probably back when white thought it was an appropriate name to use.

There are a lot of ethnic pejoratives still hanging around as descriptive terms. They are offensive and should be changed. I wonder when Perry obliterated the name on the sign?

“More importantly, when is the black community going to be outraged with rappers who use that word with impunity?”

Not being black, I can’t answer for them.

But other ethnic groups have members who think its cool to use those terms among themselves or even with other people. Maybe they feel that by using them, the terms loose their venom. They are incorrect of course and these terms should not be used by any self-respecting, thinking member of any particular ethnic group and that, I suppose explains why those idiot rappers use that term.

I am so sick of all of this crap. If Sarah takes a breath the media attacks her. If Perry takes a breath the media attacks her. But oh wait, if Romney ( total rino) or Christie ( rino) etc. take breath the media does very little.

I wish there was some way for conservatives to straighten out the media on their bias and tell them to get the hell out of our elections.

HuffPo and WaPo ARE the same!

‘Niggerhead’ is/was a very common name for certain geologic formations throughout the USA. In Alaska, it refers to the muskeg swamps. Even where official maps and names have changed, locals almost always stick with the ‘n’ word.

Big effing deal, but it does touch on the lighter side of the not-so-old West.

The Renaming of the West is an ongoing saga. There are quite a few places that have had to be renamed in recent years due to their decidedly un-PC original monikers.

Can anyone think of other examples?

Perry wants everyone to succeed to get government out of our lives.

So the race card is pulled.

I started reading the Ian Flemming 007 novels a few years back. He often uses this term in a nautical sense. That is small head of coral just above or below the water line that is very hard to spot making it a navigation hazard.

BTW, I too had the reaction that this is more evidence of how deeply his and his family’s roots go into Dim party.

BINGO!!! As Rush says, the liberals will tell you who they fear by who they attack - it's the same with these Republican Elitists. All of these polls from FOX - don't believe them folks - O'Reilly admitted on the air that they manipulated getting Romney in first place by eliminating the Cain & Paul votes.

As usual, they are trying to divide the conservative vote to help their RINO Romney. If you add the numbers of people that are for a candidate that ISN'T Romney - you will see Romney can not win if the other people unite behind one candidate. So far, the one with the best numbers is Perry. THAT IS WHY THEY ARE PILING ON HIM RIGHT NOW. Time and more debates will tell if he can sustain being in the lead - but the time is quickly approaching when we will have to choose between Romney or ONE other candidate.

Divided we lose - united we win.

Without a doubt, Texas is the strongest Republican state in the nation. The people of Texas have entrusted Republicans with the stewardship of every statewide elected office and majorities in the state senate, state house and on the state board of education. Republicans now have majorities in 107 Texas counties that contain nearly two-thirds of the state’s population. And Texas’ own George W. Bush was the 43rd President of the United States.

But things haven’t always been so great for Texas Republicans. For over one hundred years, the Republican Party was not a viable force in Texas politics. We were the second party in a one-party state. During that time, the GOP failed to win a single statewide race and controlled only a handful of seats in the Legislature.

http://www.collincountygop.com/resources/history-of-the-republican-party-of-texas/

During that 100 years being a Republican meant little are no work. No power. The racist Dumocrats ruled everything.
During reconstruction being a Republican meant a lynching White OR Black.

This is a non issue. Unless the Dummies want to start talking about thier vile history in TEXAS.
the latest incarnation in Texas is that the Aryan Brotherhood in Texas. In prison 1000 member, out of prison 3000 members are in League with the Mexican Drug cartels.
Blacks are their targets. and ofcourse the MONEY and DRUGS.
when you hear simplistic jingoistic BS. There is always a back story that the Leftist and Nationalist don’t want you to know.

There is a type of prolific daisy wildflower native to that part of Texas. It has had several colloquial names over the years, including “Balck-Eyed Susan, Yellow or Ox-Eye Daisy, Nigger-Head, Golden Jerusalem, and Purple Cone-flower.” See the following link: http://www.nature-and-flower-pictures.com/black-eyed-susan.html

From my experience as a native Texan, the name “Nigger-Head” was the most common.

It seems reasonable to me that the hunting lease was named after the flowers found on it, which is a common way to refer to fields or other areas within a large parcel of land.

Let him sink on something that matters.

His parents bought into a hunting camp almost 30 years ago, that had a rock with the words "Nigger Head" on it and they painted over the rock.

Perry had nothing to do with it.

Squaw Peak in Arizona was renamed for a woman who was the first Indian to be killed in Iraq. I had no problem with them naming a highway after her, but they changed the name of Squaw Peak because it was supposedly “offensive” to the indians. Everyone still calls it Squaw Peak.
