Rick Perry’s Texas hunting spot's racially charged name lingered. [Wabbit season! Troll season!]

Paint Creek, Tex. — In the early years of his political career, Rick Perry began hosting fellow lawmakers, friends and supporters at his family’s secluded West Texas hunting camp, a place known by the name painted in block letters across a large, flat rock standing upright at its gated entrance.

“Niggerhead,” it read.

The name of this particular parcel did not change for years after it became associated with Rick Perry, first as a private citizen, then as a state official and finally as Texas governor.

I’ve never heard this and I’m a Missisippian who has had leases/or owned hunting property in Mississippi, Louisiana, Tennessee, Alabama and a very large 15,000 acre lease NW of Austin near Burnet Texas...in my 54 years

and I have never heard the term NIGGERHEAD.....ever till today

HuffPo and WaPo ARE the same!

‘Niggerhead’ is/was a very common name for certain geologic formations throughout the USA. In Alaska, it refers to the muskeg swamps. Even where official maps and names have changed, locals almost always stick with the ‘n’ word.

Well ... the paint keeps coming off. If Rick had any common sense , being a Gov of Texas and all the great hunting places , he should have found somewhere else.

“Niggerhead”?

They are digging deep on Perry. They are afraid
he may act niggardly when it comes social services.

This could have come directly from HuffPo.

Big effing deal, but it does touch on the lighter side of the not-so-old West.

The Renaming of the West is an ongoing saga. There are quite a few places that have had to be renamed in recent years due to their decidedly un-PC original monikers.

Can anyone think of other examples?

I guess Rick Perry was going to take some votes away from the Democratic Party plantation.

Perry wants everyone to succeed to get government out of our lives.

So the race card is pulled.

This is a dirty business.

There is a rotating rope winch on drill rigs that used to be called niggerheads. The term is cathead now. Neither makes much sense, but I did hear it used by old drillers even black ones.

I wonder if they'll re-title the classic Spencer Tracy - Robert Ryan movie to “Bad Day at African American Rock.”

I started reading the Ian Flemming 007 novels a few years back. He often uses this term in a nautical sense. That is small head of coral just above or below the water line that is very hard to spot making it a navigation hazard.

BTW, I too had the reaction that this is more evidence of how deeply his and his family’s roots go into Dim party.

This isn’t a story about facts.

All they want to do is attach the “n” word to Perry. It seems Cain has already fallen for it. Man I’m sick of this crap. Cain needs to get the facts from Perry before he comments further.

The Perry haters are going to end up with obama for another four. Might as well kiss the USA goodbye if that happens.

This is a non-issue. Nothing to it.

Unless you’re its feeding frenzy for the rabid Perry haters.

Oh for God’s Sake! OK, have you guys figured it out yet? Who is it that all the republican candidates are going after and who is it the press is going after? And who is it the debate moderators have gone after? And why do you suppose that is?

BINGO!!! As Rush says, the liberals will tell you who they fear by who they attack - it's the same with these Republican Elitists. All of these polls from FOX - don't believe them folks - O'Reilly admitted on the air that they manipulated getting Romney in first place by eliminating the Cain & Paul votes.

As usual, they are trying to divide the conservative vote to help their RINO Romney. If you add the numbers of people that are for a candidate that ISN'T Romney - you will see Romney can not win if the other people unite behind one candidate. So far, the one with the best numbers is Perry. THAT IS WHY THEY ARE PILING ON HIM RIGHT NOW. Time and more debates will tell if he can sustain being in the lead - but the time is quickly approaching when we will have to choose between Romney or ONE other candidate.

Divided we lose - united we win.

Without a doubt, Texas is the strongest Republican state in the nation. The people of Texas have entrusted Republicans with the stewardship of every statewide elected office and majorities in the state senate, state house and on the state board of education. Republicans now have majorities in 107 Texas counties that contain nearly two-thirds of the state’s population. And Texas’ own George W. Bush was the 43rd President of the United States.

But things haven’t always been so great for Texas Republicans. For over one hundred years, the Republican Party was not a viable force in Texas politics. We were the second party in a one-party state. During that time, the GOP failed to win a single statewide race and controlled only a handful of seats in the Legislature.

http://www.collincountygop.com/resources/history-of-the-republican-party-of-texas/

During that 100 years being a Republican meant little are no work. No power. The racist Dumocrats ruled everything.
During reconstruction being a Republican meant a lynching White OR Black.

This is a non issue. Unless the Dummies want to start talking about thier vile history in TEXAS.
the latest incarnation in Texas is that the Aryan Brotherhood in Texas. In prison 1000 member, out of prison 3000 members are in League with the Mexican Drug cartels.
Blacks are their targets. and ofcourse the MONEY and DRUGS.
when you hear simplistic jingoistic BS. There is always a back story that the Leftist and Nationalist don’t want you to know.

There is a type of prolific daisy wildflower native to that part of Texas. It has had several colloquial names over the years, including “Balck-Eyed Susan, Yellow or Ox-Eye Daisy, Nigger-Head, Golden Jerusalem, and Purple Cone-flower.” See the following link: http://www.nature-and-flower-pictures.com/black-eyed-susan.html

From my experience as a native Texan, the name “Nigger-Head” was the most common.

It seems reasonable to me that the hunting lease was named after the flowers found on it, which is a common way to refer to fields or other areas within a large parcel of land.

Divided we lose - united we win.

Exactly right. The candidates need to focus on obama. Run a few Solyndra and Fast and Furious scandal commercials to get the peoples attention.

This story is a bunch of nonsense.

There are several reasons to be against Perry and his support of enticing illegals to cross the border into Texas and elsewhere is enough to sink him.

Let him sink on something that matters.
