House Republicans worry they’ll have to accept massive spending measure

Frustrated House Republicans are grappling with the possibility that they will be forced to swallow the kind of massive spending package many of them campaigned against when Democrats were in power.

The House on Tuesday overwhelmingly passed a stopgap spending bill to carry the federal government through Nov. 18, ending the latest spending crisis on Capitol Hill.

But with both the House and Senate woefully behind schedule on passing appropriations measures for fiscal 2012, lawmakers have only six weeks to figure out a solution — and few desirable options.

The Senate has passed just one of 12 annual appropriations bills, while the House has passed six. If the two chambers cannot make significant progress, the most likely fallback option is to combine the 12 bills into one omnibus measure.

“I think everybody expects that,” said Rep. Austin Scott (Ga.), president of the House GOP freshman class.

The prospect of signing off on a bill that could exceed 1,000 pages and appropriate about $1 trillion in federal spending is a sore subject for Republicans, particularly the freshmen who pledged not to vote for legislation too bulky even to read.

“I didn’t vote to create the debacle and the train wreck that’s coming,” freshman Rep. Jeff Landry (R-La.) said. “So we’ll have to wait to see what happens.”

If they don't get budgets passed, they'll be vilified as obstructionists. If they do pass an omnibus bill, they'll be labeled hypocrites.

Since the MSM and Dems will beat you up in either case, hold the line and do what's best for the nation, not your image inside the beltway.

John Batchelor had on David Drucker from the same newspaper on last night and he said since there would be “no tax increases in this Congress” therefore the automatic cuts would go in. I am not sure what the point of this article is, other than to spread propaganda.

At the very least, each time they pass a spending bill, it should be a smaller spending bill each time, until spending is under control.

“If they don’t get budgets passed, they’ll be vilified as obstructionists”

Only in D.C. and the MSM. Their constituents don’t support the spending.

Whose side are you on?

Who didn’t see this coming. They can now thank Boehner and McConnell for putting them in this situation after they had the Rats by the short ones last time.

It helps to read past the first sentence. To answer your question, I am on my side.

Just pass a CR every month but make sure 10% is knocked out of each CR.

The congress hasn't passed a budget in 2 years. Kind of the media so suddenly notice after all this time. Of course, now that the Obamedia has focused like a collectivist lazer beam on congress' inability to pass a budget, we can expect fair, BALANCED information about it. Pardon me while I gag.

You don’t think Congress is capable of automatically cutting and jacking up spending at the same time?

I just take umbridge to condoning MSM propaganda regarding conservatives. What’s next, crafting our arguments to respond to Soviet Life editorials and defending against quotations of Mao’s Little Red Book?

Spot on! It seems that the inside the beltway kool-aid poisoning has started in earnest with the Freshmen. Is someone going to hold them down and force them to vote for Obama’s new spending debacle? No? Well then grow some nads, ‘Pubbies! If you aren’t up to the job I’m certain we can find someone who is!

MSM propaganda is the way it's been for decades. Over the past 20 years, they've been less and less able to get away with it cleanly, since we have been getting access to more sources of information.

As to your question of what's next, they are getting more and more bold about revealing who they truly are. Anita Dunn has already professed her admiration of Mao. I'm certain she's not the only former/current member of Obama's administration who harbors those sentiments.

Then DON’T DO IT.

How hard is that to figure out?

Worthless gutless brainless jackwagons, the lot of ‘em.

They need not worry.

These wimpy RINOs will not be "forced" to do ANYTHING else -- after we replace them, in the next election cycle.

If we keep replacing those who lose their spine upon arriving inside the Beltway, EVENTUALLY the ones who wish to remain will get the message.
