I know you despise Romney and the chances of your supporting him are nil. The guy I was arguing with was jumping the gun I think and attacking the GOP beore any primaries are held.
Jim, I agree regarding Romney he did many liberal things in Massachussetts. I supported Thompson last time and would have supported Palin. Cain, Perry and Bachman are fine as well (even Perry is suspect on illegal immigration).
No matter who the GOP nominee, I have to be on the anti Obama half of Free Republic. That goes for Hilary too if they run her. Barack Obama is the worst example of a president in my lifetime (includes Carter, Johnson and Nixon) and he’s getting worse every day.
It sounds like you favor Ron Paul. I agree that the Fed is a bad idea, but I can't agree with your certainty that it must be 'stripped of any power.' Remember, the Fed came before we left the gold standard, so the power to create fiat money still lies with the Treasury, technically.
Under a gold standard, the Fed can't collude with the Treasury to print money, but the likelihood of that is still pretty low. Without severe reform, the best we can hope for is that the federal budget will actually stop expanding. This is only possible with a Republican president WHO IS ALSO A CONSERVATIVE. I don't hold out hope for the establishment just rolling over in the primary process, but they are weak.
I don't know why you think Cain has no understanding of that fact. He did serve in the Fed, in the belly of the beast. Replacing the Fed is something that must follow other, more basic reforms.
In my view, the Presidency is not the place for the on-the-job training.
Of the top tier candidates with full awareness of his warts, Perry is the most proven pro-life, pro-RKBA and experienced candidate. He has my support.
We will have to agree to disagree then. I cannot vote for Perry at all, not with his record on illegal immigration and his poor showing in the debates.

Why is it crazy? If Gov Palin becomes a king maker and Cain seeks the endorsement of the tea party, there’s nothing to prevent the Tea Party from appointing Gov Palin as a sort of ombudsman to keep an eye on the POTUS and insure that he doesn’t go off the rails.
