Obama, the loner president
washingtonpost ^ | October 8th, 2011 | Scott Wilson

Beyond the economy, the wars and the polls, President Obama has a problem: people.

This president endures with little joy the small talk and back-slapping of retail politics, rarely spends more than a few minutes on a rope line, refuses to coddle even his biggest donors. His relationship with Democrats on Capitol Hill is frosty, to be generous. Personal lobbying on behalf of legislation? He prefers to leave that to Vice President Biden, an old-school political charmer.

...

But inside the Beltway, the legacy of his relationship, or lack thereof, with Democrats on the Hill remains a problem for his jobs plan — and, by extension, his political future.

A senior Democratic strategist told my colleague Chris Cillizza recently that “the person running out of air most quickly” is Obama himself, and there may not be many who come to his rescue.

“We’re about a year out from the elections, and the senators are turning to their own races,” the strategist said. “They don’t have a lot of energy or political capital to spare for the president at this point.”

I'm not sure if the reporter wrote the title and first paragraph of the article. It seems to go one way at first, i.e. "This president endures with little joy the small talk" but then wanders into a pointless summary of Obama's first few years in office. It almost returns to the original point at the end, "“the person running out of air most quickly” is Obama himself, and there may not be many who come to his rescue" but not quite.

The title could just as well have been "Obama, the loser president" for all the content of the article.

Obama prefers to rule thru his czars and political fellow travelers. His has disdain for representative government. His inclinations are towards tyranny and despotism.

That is the defense to everything that has happened: Obama removed him self from the day to day stuff and just handled the big issues. It is a form of a heat shield.

Guarantee the legal notion of “should have known” will NEVER be addressed with this guy by the media.

Interesting article. He is definitely short on people skills and comes across as a cold fish. My personal take is that he thinks he’s better than everybody else and he’d do well to learn you catch more flies with honey than vinegar.

He is so cool, that he’s cold and aloof. Remember how uncomfortable he looked at the “acting stupidly” beer summit in the back yard of the White Crib?

i could take “cool and aloof” - his biggest problem is he is misguided and incompetent. a very bad combo.

Makes me wonder what a hurt self involved loner will do after the Country rejects him after 2012?? I hope Republicans are ready to “Hold the Line” until the Republican nominee can get sworn in should they win the election. Obama is going to be one dangerous Lame Duck President!

He’s like many other leftist ideologues — he has no human warmth because has the power of the state and the state, in his mind, is above the people. Despite all the rhetoric about empowering people, he is like drug pusher and has contempt for his dependent junkies. However, instead of pushing actual drugs, liberals push dependency on the Federal government. Once the people are hooked on Federal money, they can be controlled and manipulated. People always wonder why many of the rich are so liberal. It’s all about control. Bread and Circuses has now become SSI and WIC.

Hey, what can one say—Americans cotton to dick-taters.

We thought 0bama was going to be a great, first black president even if he was a democRAT, and all the people would come together in love and harmony
but he is doing just the opposite.

We gave him a chance. He can say anything he wants but the people
are suffering because of him and he can’t keep the wool over our eyes any longer.

Let's not overthink this. Obama won the election, so he shouldn't have to "do politics" any more. I mean, once you're king of the hill, every one else does the heavy lifting for you, right?

Anyway, so what if he's a cold fish? If his policies where any good he wouldn't be sliding down into the 30s. In the end, it all comes down to product and performance, and on both counts, Obama stinks.

Leftists love the masses - it's people they hate.

After stewing in the loss for a month it's time to show them, all of them.

It's 12/21/2012. Time to end the world.

this one quote captures the core of the political and public policy problem for this self-regarding jackass:

“The president’s supreme confidence in his intellectual abilities... “

this president is a classic illustration of the Dunning-Krueger effect: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Dunning–Kruger_effect

Obama isn’t smart enough to recognize how little he actually knows about either politics or policy. He chose his advisors primarily based on ivy league academic pedigree, regardless of their history of advocating disastrous policies (Summers, Romer etc)

Neither Obama or any of his clueless advisors apparently read the Reinhardt and Rogoff book. http://www.amazon.com/This-Time-Different-Centuries-Financial/dp/product-description/0691142165

If they had they would have known that the history of economic recovery after a housing crash is many years of slow growth.

Instead, Obama and his advisors bet on a quick recovery, devised a “stimulus” plan and health care plan based on paying off democrat interest groups and burnishing Zeros “historic legacy”.

Even now, in political trouble, the president that “historian” Michael Beschloss imagines is the “most intelligent to every occupy the white house” goes back to old style liberal, populist appeals, even as they drive down business confidence and make the economy worse.

Total fail ! My tagline stays until the 2012 election.

I remember back in ‘08 Rush saying he was “cold” not “cool.” Rush is an excellent judge of people.
