Free Republic Sacrilege: Why Perry is the Conservative and Cain is Not
Self | 10/10/2011 | Beancounter13

Issue

Perry

Cain

2nd Amendment

Has a firearm, a CCL, and he uses them.

Has a long history of 2nd Amendment support:

2nd Amendment

Thinks gun control should be left to the state and local governments placing him at odds with Heller and McDonald.

Cain's CNN

Abortion

Perry signed into law a regulation would have required women seeking an abortion to view a sonogram and listen to the fetus's heartbeat while a doctor rattled off a detailed description of the fetus's anatomical development — and then forcibly ponder their decision for an additional 24 hours before an abortion could be performed.

Abortion

Pro-life from conception, pro-life from conception, pro-life from conception.

Cain's CNN

Gay Marriage (note the so-called 'flip-flop' actually serves to showcase Perry's support of the 10th Amendment)

Rick Perry has signed a pledge to back a federal constitutional amendment against gay marriage – a reversal from a month ago when the Texas governor said he so supported individual states' rights that he was fine with New York's approval of same-sex marriage.

Gay Marriage

Supports traditional marriage, support traditional marriage

Cain's CNN

Global Warming / Cap & Trade

Long history of fighting the EPA as Texas Governor:

[The EPA] relied heavily upon findings by climate-change scientists that have been subsequently discredited by the scientists' own e-mails ....

Global Warming

I don't believe global war-- global warming is real. Do we have climate change? Yes. Is it a crisis, no. And this is why I strongly oppose the-- the cap in trade

Cain on Global Warming

Red Flags

Use of a liberal term (“heartless”) while discussing an issue (in-state tuition for residents of non-citizens).

Use of a liberal term (“insensitive”) in referring to a racial accusation before the facts were revealed.

...why isn’t he out there jumping all over liberals like Cain

Maybe because he chooses to fight the real RINO of the bunch, and we know who that is.

How this debate got framed into the perception that Perry is weak on illegal immigration puzzles me. I think any thinking adult will consider the perils of a 11-year record at a Texas governor, some good, some bad, of having to be the governor of all the people in Texas. Many conservative voters in border counties agree with Perry's record. It's a tough issue when you have actually lead a border state. My take on Rick Perry's record on immigration.

I don’t know, I’ve had a check in the gut with Cain from nearly the get go. Maybe it’s like the Left’s answer was all rhetoric Obama from no where, and now the Right’s answer is all the great rhetoric Cain from almost no where. The mutual admiration society between Cain and Romney holds weight with me and it says something. Can’t put my finger on it. Whatever it is, it all sure seems to be aimed squarely at Perry.

I prefer Perry’s experience, but Anybody but Romney and Obama.

Truth is, we never really had a Republican presidential candidate who was tough on illegals since Eisenhower.

‘coming out against Arizona’s attempt to get some control”

That is not true. He was against only “one” part of Arizona’s Immigration Bill. And Arizona changed that part after Perry said what he did.

Perry supported Brewer in the Federal Lawsuit along with our Texas Attorney General.

I know enough about Romney and Perry to know that neither man is presidential timber IMHO.

I agree.

Honestly, I was more impressed with Cain two weeks ago. Now that I have seen more of him it's the same things over and over. He has some catchy soundbites but I really wonder how much substance there is.

How would he handle immigration...as a border state governor right now?

How does Cain feel about affirmative action.

Will he release his college transcripts? Now?

There is no voting record to judge him by.

I'm sure the MSM will vet him a lot more than Obama ever was but I would like it before the primary vote...not after.

I want to know everything I need to know BEFORE I vote in the primary...he is the least known.

My sense is at that time it was simply something he hadn’t given due consideration to.

Fair enough. Can we agree to cut Perry the same level of slack on his "heartless" comment?

While Cain has been campaigning since last December, Perry only got in last August. National politics are a little different than those here in Texas. We still have a few conservative Dems in this state --not many, of course.

“Fair enough. Can we agree to cut Perry the same level of slack on his “heartless” comment?”

The problem for Perry was that he used that term to defend a liberal policy.

Stood a few feet away from Perry when he commandeered our first TEA Party in Arlington. He struck me as chameleon-like. Illegal issue is a big fail from him.

Thanks, that's important to know.

Please, don’t put words in my mouth ... I asked a legitimate question. A question that needs to be asked. And no, I don’t think Cain is a liberal.

Rick Perry plays politics to power and has, in the past. involved Texas government in projects that Texans didn’t want.

I can certainly agree. I am not 'all about Rick Perry'. I do not believe anybody should be all about any one candidate. Our 3 branches of government were formed to prevent such tyranny.

I also trust legislatures and congress to keep the executives in line.

Misinformation?

No, this is Rick Perry on the record in his own words issued directly from the Governor's Office:

Rick Perry: “That’s why I support a guest worker program that takes undocumented workers off the black market and legitimizes their economic contributions without providing them citizenship status.”

“Legitimizing" the "economic contributions” of illegals by giving them the right to live here IS AMNESTY.

That Rick Perry believes he can out of one side of his mouth say we should give legal status to the illegals in the United States and out of the other side of his mouth say he does not favor "amnesty" just shows what a typical double-talking politician he is.

This is just as dishonest as Bush-McCain-Kennedy and the other cheerleaders for "comprehensive immigration reform" claiming that their bill to legalize the illegals was "not amnesty" because they would require the illegals to pay a small fine.

And then we discovered buried in the fine print were provisions providing mucho tax dollars to organizations such as National Council of La Raza, so even this small fine was not what it appeared.

This double-talk just shows that Perry thinks we're stupid, just like Bush and McCain and Kennedy.

If President Rick Perry legally gives the right to live in the U.S. to people who have broken our laws and invaded our country by the millions and are costing us tens of billions of dollars every year in our schools, emergency rooms, jails and prisons, court system, welfare system, identity theft, gang activity, drunk-driving deaths and untold other social costs, then THAT IS AMNESTY.

And Perry says he will legalize them, but not give them citizenship? Who really believes that? Does anyone here really believe modern America and the vast liberal media-academic-entertainment industrial complex will be okay with imposing a permanent "second-class citizen" status on a huge block of people?

Betting the ranch on that is like expecting to fill a royal flush, which only happens in the movies.

What about legalizing the illegals? Are you IN FAVOR of that? Isn't that by far the biggest red flag about Perry?

You repeatedly make that same claim, even though you know it's not true. Why do you do that?
