Republicans increasingly see Mitt Romney as the 'inevitable candidate'
Washington Post ^ | Oct 12, 2011 | Philip Rucker and Perry Bacon Jr

Buoyed by a series of strong debate performances, Mitt Romney is suddenly attracting new support from major donors and elected officials, some of whom had resisted his previous entreaties, as people across the GOP grow more accepting of the presidential contender as the party’s standard-bearer.

On Wednesday, Sen. Thad Cochran (R-Miss.) and former House speaker J. Dennis Hastert (R-Ill.) became the latest in a string of current and former elected officials who have announced their support for Romney over the past week. Former Republican National Committee chairman Jim Nicholson, hedge fund manager Paul Singer and Home Depot co-founder Ken Langone are among the major Republican fundraisers supporting the candidate.

"It's all coming together for him," said Cochran, who formally endorsed Romney on Wednesday. "People are beginning to be impressed with him and his thoughtful comments about the issues."

You want to get a smooth, good debater, never mind that he is Obama-light, support Romney.

You want a conservatives with a proven conservative record (which is unfrotunately being distorted by some), who is not a debater, but a strong executive, support Perry.

You want to spoiler, who will help Romney be the nominee, support Cain.

The choice is yours...

They're doing it to us again, folks. Another McCain. They're pushing the "inevitability" of Romney getting the nomination, to try and numb us into acceptance and obedience.

DRAFT SARAH.

In your heart, you know she's our only chance to make "winning the White House" have any REAL MEANING!

You are further removed from reality, than those who think Cain can win.

I caught a lot of flack here in 2008, when I threatened to vote Libertarian, since their candidate was more conservative than McCain. Not this time. Two people who will not get my vote?...Barak Obama and Mitt Romney.

They're doing it to us again, folks.

Exactly.....promote the guy we rejected last time (McCain 2000, nominated 2008), figure he's better than the opponent, and find out he's worse than you imagined.

No thanks.

Four years ago, we were getting the same spiel about McCain. People were on the McCain train early on because they feared a worse RINO like Romney or Giuliani. We paid a steep price for that.

I'm sick of having the most "electable" RINO shoved down my throat. Perry has been a huge disappointment so far and he figures to be even less conservative than McCain.

Absurd premise.

Amnesty Rick is a goof who can't think on his feet—he would have to avoid debating Obama and then would lose for being a coward.

Romney is not a conservative and the Tea Party will pick our candidate and he/she will be a conservative—and so far it's Cain.

Perry is so over—Texas deserves to keep him—don't need no more open border Bushes.

The left will do what the left does: shape the playing field to assure their desired outcome. Nothing new and nothing to worry about. My advice is vote for your desired candidate in your state’s primaries. If you are really motivated and dedicated to your candidate, support him/her with your dollars and involvement in their campaign at your local level. In the general election I will vote for anyone but Obama, even if my candidate did not end up in the Presidential ticket. That said I’ll make sure my Congress critters stick to a conservative agenda so the keep any potential RINO President in check. IMHO, Third party voting or sitting the general election because your primary candidate did not make it is a de facto vote for Obama and the further destruction of our country.

Regards.

I assume you're talking about the Cain that's ahead of Romney right now.

There is no “draft” of a candidate. That feature ended with the advent of primaries. A draft is something they do at the convention and it is only possible if there is a deadlock and no one can get a majority. Can’t happen. Were there to be a deadlock the man with the most money, Rommney far and away, would simply buy enough delegates to break the deadlock.

What republicans are they talking to? Mitt is my third to last choice among candidates. Decent man, I suppose and light years better than the retard in office now but not my choice, if I have one
