SF plan would offer tax break for hiring felons

San Francisco businesses that hire people with felony convictions would get a tax break, under legislation expected to be introduced today.

"Ex-felons are among the most challenged populations in getting work," said Supervisor Ross Mirkarimi, who is crafting the plan.

Persuading an employer to hire a convicted felon, particularly in this economy when the unemployment rate is hovering just under 10 percent, is difficult, especially when there's a wide pool of job applicants without felony records.

McDonald's has had great success with that.

Once a company starts hiring felons, they will be the only ones who will want to work for the company.

Someone needs to seriously go into SF and completely gut the place out. Send all the politicians to prison. All the other fruits, nuts, flakes, and other cereal parts need to be run out of this country!

businesses can get a tax break for hiring felons now, or people can pay to keep them incarcerated. One way or another, we pay....

I vote for option #2.

The only way I’d consider hiring somebody with a criminal record is if he can show that he’s kept his nose clean for a couple of years.

SF Board of Supervisors. The collective IQ goes up when the janitor comes into the chamber to empty the wastebaskets while they are in session.

I think it's great. They should have the city pay for their jobs. If they can give illegals in state tuition above other Americans why not pay for felons. Is there anything there that the good folks will finally get upset & do something about it? Looks like none. Ergo, they deserve everything that is shoved on them & don't think that this is an aberration of one city. All taxpaying heterosexual white God fearing individual ought to be actively involved in changing this destruction of America.

There should be a tax break, a BIG BREAK, for towing the San Francisco Board of Supervisors on a barge into the Bay and sinking that barge.

Why?

You can look at SF as your garbage bin of America. You know you collect garbage daily but where do you HAVE to throw it eventually? It’s best to have every idiot in one place so you can keep an eye on them.

I agree with your view. The country is dividing up, self-selecting into groups.

The libtards are to blame for this but this is common sense. People with a common objective or mentality group together like us on FR. Libs attract other idiots, faggots attracts other fudgepackers and racists attract other race-baiters.

Rotsa-Ruck!

I’m having a helluva time trying to (legally) get rid of one right now who stole a bicycle when he was at a customer’s office.

The California Employment Development Department is always sympathetic to the poor, downtrodden, thieving workers...

that’s fine. However, with overcrowding and such, more and more inmates are being set free early, and if no one will hire them, they won’t have many options, and criminal or not, that’s not a good position to be in.

Texas already has a tax break for businesses that hire felons, and some businesses do go out of their way to hire them for that reason. I worked at such a place (was the only truck driver) and it worked out pretty well for the business and the employees. True scumbags won’t work out at any place of business but the employees I ran across at work weren’t any different than anyone else, and some were managers.

I tend to think that once a person has served their time, their debt is PAID.
