Kabul, Afghanistan (CNN) -- Secretary of State Hillary Clinton took off her diplomatic gloves Thursday, challenging Pakistan to crack down on terrorist havens on its side of the border with Afghanistan.
In a joint news conference with Afghan President Hamid Karzai, Clinton -- in unusually forceful language -- laid almost all of the blame for recent terror attacks on Pakistan.
The United States, she said, knows the Haqqani terrorist network operates out of havens in Pakistan.
"We intend to push the Pakistanis very hard," Clinton said, calling it a "time for clarity."

She must feel embolden after Gaddafi’s death. Then again maybe all show for the electorate back home.
Anyone get an uneasy feeling about why president kumbiya’s administration is systematically taking out all of these leaders?
Maybe he wants to rule the world. We might have to start calling him the Caliph-N-Chief.
Seriously, I don’t think we know but it is getting rather frightening.
If I were her, I’d lose the tough guy talk before they make an example of her.
Nope. I know why he’s doing it. Caliphate. It does not make me uneasy. It gives us a legitimate target when the SHTF and Dipstick is in Leavenworth.
If we elect a man and a government with the guts.
Um(cough)....bullsh!t.
Paki-land is a coerced together hob-gobblin of Muslim tribal sects with varying degrees of modernity or sense of national identity. Vast partitions of the country are “off limits” for those of any outside exposure.
The country’s a damn disaster and it no help to the West in the overall war on terror. They’re a Mexico of the Islamic world....ostensibly reasonable but strictly under military establishment control and corruption barely underneath.
What the Pakistani gov’t says means dick. What the Pak military speaks volumes. We saw this already with bin Laden...
As I understand things, Pakistan needs the Taliban to take over Afghanistan so they will have the Pak’s back in their war with India. Clinton should have an easy time with this, just slowly withdraw our troops so as many as possible can be killed. Tightening up the ROE to protect more Taliban will help too. Bizzaro world, Obama world.
She’s going to push them hard or else the UN is gonna write them a sternly worded letter. With Fartbongo in charge, we couldn’t push around a penguin colony
What are relations between al queda and the mooslim brotherhood at the moment? Is there a power struggle? I’d venture a wild guess that ‘commander zero’ is backing mb all the time and taking out dissident aq. Otherwise kenyan tribal politics.
She needs to shut her mouth. She is a disaster. I believe she and Obama-lama-ding-dong are OBLIVIOUS to the damage they are doing, thinking as always, since they are the ones with the best intentions, then everything will just be peachy.
Meanwhile, we have troops dependent in part, on supplies being routed through Pakistan.
If the Paki goverment is going to get tough, it won't help if they appear to be an Obama-Hildabeast puppet. I cannot see how that would work to U.S. interests advantage.
yes, I know...many here will say it's all deliberate. Personally, I'm under the impression they (Ding-Dong & Co.) are so certain their own farts smell like roses, and have been convinced of that for so long, they cannot understand that others don't care for the smell, and will and do take offense at the rudeness, and will remember it for years to come, looking forward to the day they can rub American noses into the "roses", for change.
Thanks for nothing, Hillary. Just SHUT UP already!
Pushing hard is another way of saying buying friendship. I wonder how much this “friendship” is going to cost us and how much of it gets “taxed” into the 0bama and Klinton accounts in Switzerland. It appears that this administration’s plan to fight terrorism is to get them as much land mass as possible. If the land you sell them just happens to have nukes 0bama gets a two-fer - he gets paid more and the redistribution of nukes makes us all equal.
