Right during rush. hope it’s short. I won’t miss abc’s top of the hour news.

scary they have that power. bet they could turn off all electronic networks with the flick of a switch. TV/Radio/Cell

I still have my CB radio at least. But i bet they have a way to jam the signal of that as well.

I can’t see a legitimate need to cut off radio and TV in an emergency.

Quite the opposite in fact.

http://blog.fema.gov/2011/06/announcing-first-nationwide-eas-test.html

On November 9, the public will hear a message indicating that “This is a test.” The audio message will be the same for both radio and television. However, the image on the screen and the text/crawl at the top of television screen may not be the same for all viewers. When the EAS test is over, regular programming will resume.

As we continue working with all our partners to prepare for the test in the months ahead, FEMA and the FCC plan to conduct outreach to organizations representing people with hearing disabilities to prepare that community for the national EAS test. Outreach will include specific information tailored to the needs of those with hearing disabilities that will be readily available at online sites.

How long will the test last?

We anticipate that the test will last approximately 3 minutes. While most messages, such as tsunami or hurricane warnings, are limited to 2 minutes by the EAS system, the Presidential message capability does not have a time limit. So to evaluate if the system properly interprets the Presidential message code in this test, the message duration must be longer than two minutes in length.

Of all the Presidents this one is least trusted to have such control at his fingertips. This is not good news. what will we do when all radio and television communications cease, in the event of some type of emergency? I understand there possibly could be a time it is useful. Now the programs make announcements and run bulletins and banners across the screen. This is a great deal of power for one person to hold. How would we know what is going on if it happens that all communications were to cease for a time? ... we would not know the cause or purpose. Not a good situation. This happened in Germany prior/during WW11

Do you remember CONELRAD? I still remember making/modifying a broadcast receiver that would sound an alarm should an alert be called. You were to switch to either 640 or 1240 KC (now kHz) for instructions. Hams were to cease broadcasting immediately. I will make a point of getting on the air at that time.

On the Federal Level alone?? Don't think they can do it. Imagine the surge....

Yes, they’re testing the EAS that day. It’ll be the first nation-wide test of an emergency system since the 1950’s. HOWEVER...they aren’t “shutting off” the networks by any stretch of the imagination.

For three, that’s right...just three...minutes, they will activate the EAS from the White House using the exact same activation codes they’d use if the President wanted to speak to the American people during a national emergency. They want to see how well (or not) the system works. EVERY station will be required to broadcast the message, and those that don’t will be asked by the FCC to explain why they didn’t.

On this test, we will NOT hear or see Barry the Boob. This will be audio only...no slide or visual will be used. For some inexplicable reason, there is no standard visual to use in a national emergency (Why not?). This means some TV and cable systems will show a blank screen during the test. (I can just see some little old grandma out there in the Midwest who doesn’t realize what’s happening and dropping dead of a heart attack, thinking Doomsday is upon us.)

Like I’ve said before, there hasn’t ever been a nation-wide test of the system. Now, you could say we sort-of had one in 1971 when the idiot operator at NORAD sent the wrong message during a weekly test. If you look at the results of what happened, then the system failed miserably. Over half the country would not have known if we were under attack. This is a way for the FCC to gauge how (and if) the system will work and to take steps to fix what doesn’t.

Now, something I didn’t know...the EAS is basically a last-ditch effort to get a Presidential message out to the people, just in case the President couldn’t use the networks to talk to us.

There are some who will view this as a way for Barry the Boob to prepare to put us under martial law, but I don’t look at it as something so sinister. It really is a good idea to do this...just to make sure it works. And if in some future time he does use it to do just that, then you can say “I told you so”.

Here and now, I am betting that the first voice, face or words you will encounter during this EAS propaganda is Obama and his big ears and queer lisp. It will start out as public service broadcast that quickly degenerates into a campaign commercial about how he is doing this, he commanded it, and it was so.

I have a friend who works in the broadcast business...he told me about this.

Hussein could very well be preparing for his cult to perform a coup next year. I’m half joking.
