Details about the new sex education curriculum in New York City public schools are out -- and some are concerned the lessons are too racy.
The New York Post obtained workbooks that will be used for the new recommended curriculum, which begins in middle schools and high schools around the city next spring. Parents, they say, may be shocked by details of the work.
Middle school students will be assigned "risk cards" that rate the safety of different activities, the paper says, from French kissing to oral sex.
The workbooks for older students direct them to a website run by Columbia University, which explores topics such as sexual positions, porn stars, and bestiality. The lessons explain risky sexual behavior and suggest students go to stores to jot condom brands and prices.
The Department of Education says the curriculum "stresses that abstinence is the best way to avoid pregnancy and STD/HIV" and reminded the Post that parents have the option to exclude their kids from lessons on "methods of prevention."
When given details of the new programs, one Manhattan mom -- who has a child in middle-school -- was surprised.
"I didn't know how much detail they would get," she said.
In August, Deputy Mayor Linda Gibbs commended the return of mandatory sex ed, saying the DOE wants to give students the correct information about sexual activity if they do choose to engage in it.
"We want to help kids to delay the onset of sexual activity, and if they choose to engage in sexual activity, to do it in a healthy way," she said.
The classes will be coeducational, and can be incorporated into existing health education courses.
If the material is not suitable for a government agency website, then it should be likewise inappropriate for a government school classroom.

It is easy to understand, even if people don’t have much common sense. You force perverted ideas on children...and then it makes it into their worldview—their perceptions of normalcy. When you introduce perversions, you make them no big deal....normal...oh, people do this!!! Co-ed group learning of a private act makes it into a farce and orgy material and causes immature (which they are by age) children to make fun of other’s sex organs. This focus on sex organs is unnatural during the latency period (6-12) and is a disturbed behavior if it occurs....because of sex abuse or emotional undermining of their privacy which treats their bodies as cheap sex objects.
Perceptions in childhood become buried in the subconscious. First ideas about sex should NEVER come from perverts and should NEVER conflict with Natural Law—the dignity and respect and mystery of the sex act are reduced to an animal act—given to children too immature to appreciate it and thus, these children will regard sex as just another object with no relationship to love and reproduction. People become just animals who “do it if it feels good”—right out of Marcuse’s sick marxist mind.

IMHO, no, you are not. As I indicated in the first post, it's coming your way. If you don't see it, you don't WANT to see it. It's inconvenient. If that offends you, grow some tougher skin. I have increasing contempt for so-called conservatives who tolerate public schools and complacently excuse THEIR public schools as "better than the worst."

Thank you. Public education is where most of the trouble arises. After all, kids aren’t absorbing 5 or 6 hours of indoctrination on the tv. They don’t listen to that much “misledia.” They DO, however, get it from school. Some parents kid themselves that they can counteract the effects by monitoring the schools or the child’s experiences every day. But they can’t. To do so, one would need the child to possess the ability to identify instances of propaganda, and report them to the parent faithfully.
There is no excuse. A child’s mind, a child’s future, is not to be placed below one’s convenience.
And don’t let them say, “I can’t afford it.” (Alternatives, such as homeschool.) They can’t afford the risk of entrusting their children to public school.
