President Obama and his team are quite optimistic they will win reelection in 2012, notwithstanding the bad poll numbers he is facing and the absolute collapse of confidence with Washington and indeed the American economy.
There are a number of reasons why the president and his advisers are so optimistic.
First, it is his judgment that with the horse race now tied for president, he has managed to weather the storm of a declining economy and declining confidence much better than he, or frankly most observers, would have expected.

But what heartens the president's advisers is they believe they have locked into a strategy now that they are convinced can and will pay dividends.
First, they have largely given up on trying to work with Congress. With executive orders on housing and student loans, and a new slogan of "We can't wait!" the president and the Democrats are now arguing that gridlock in Washington is almost exclusively the Republicans' fault and that a "do nothing" Congress, whose rating fell as low as 9% in the most recent New York Times poll, and a Republican party whose negative rating is over 71%, will get the lion's share of the blame for inaction and dysfunctionality.
Second, the president looks at the Republican primary field and laughs, as he did on "The Tonight Show" with Jay Leno this week.

I agree with your conclusions.
Which they've been doing a damn fine job of so far. No headlines about Obama going rogue, bypassing Congress for political reasons. Nope, headlines are all about the poor lineup for Pubs and the "horse race". Fighting the national media is tough.

All of this looks like weakness given the assumptions hes making about the behavior of the republicans and current state of the republicans. Assumption which will not hold true.
1: Republicans will not remain divided.
2: Republicans will attack Obama for all that he has indisputably done.
Looks to me like hes building a desperate house of cards. All we need do is attack it and him to bring it down.
Like it or not he controls the goverment and has had more control over the same goverment then any man in the last 50 years.
Republicans have been utterly helpless to stop his agenda for the last 2 years when he had a filibuster proof majority in the senate. He is Washington D.C. in essence, and his supporter base is hardcore wall-street. Look only to see his campaign manager.
Obama’s strategy is a house of cards.
That is the nation's only hope (the people being awake.)
What is truly breathtaking is the level of complicity coming from the media. It couldn't be more transparent, the way the LSM props up Democrats and undermines the GOP.
The LSM actually want this goddamn marxist/crony capitalist to retain power, and they will gloss over absolutely any evil or incompetence for this Tyrant. We'll see a tiny bit of flak, of course, just so they can claim they're objective.
So, like I said, the only hope is that enough of the American people are truly awake, and can get their information unfiltered from the internet, and review the awful reality for themselves.
It sure would be a bad sign if Romney were to get the nomination, because that would strongly imply that the People are simply not awake enough. In fact, I can't see how a Romney presidency would be any real improvement over the current occupant.
If Romney wins the nomination, we are truly doomed, because either a) Romney will lose, or b) Romney will win and things will still slide in the same leftward direction. There is no doubt in my mind.
And there's no way in hell that Romney could ever lead that charge.
The more I analyze the situation, the more I wish Sarah Palin was running. That remains my honest conviction.
Cain? Perry? Gingrich? I could live with either of those three, I guess. Newt certainly is masterful at conservative rhetoric, and has deep historical and philosophical knowledge, but when he was in Congress he was pretty much an NWO/neocon wasn't he?. The "Free Trade Agreements", etc. It may very well be that Newt could be a good stateseman President.
For me right now, I support Cain, Gingrich, and Perry, in that order. And I'm very excited about these long format debates which Gingrich and Cain might participate in. When will those be?
It is way past time for everyone complaining to get their heads out of their butts and realize that the ammo box will be the only election device capable of restoring the former Constitution and any semblance of freedom & liberty.
Yes, I like/prefer Cain, Gingrich, and Perry, too.
I really do think it is important that would-be voters have clear images and ideas presented to them—in a loving way that calls upon them to understand this country. Why it is important that they understand the causes of our exceptionalism—and the costs and the benefits!
I think it is important that the eventual candidate hold up a national mirror for us to look in and to see what image(s) look back at us.
I think that it is very important that Americans understand it is about much more than “things”, or various political or economic “goodies”, or even political party preference.
It is about national character, and well-being, and destiny! And that starts within each and every one of us.
We forget that it was Ross Perot that made Bill Clinton POTUS in 1992 and gave a real assist in 1996. Thinking of Obama taking the Oath of Office in January 2013 gives me nausea and great fear for the future!
Obama wants Romney to get the GOP nod. Then Obamacare is a non-issue.
You don’t make any sense. First you say:

Which I agree with. But then you call for Paul Ryan to enter the race, which I took to mean you thought he would be a good candidate (correct me if I’m wrong). But Paul Ryan believes just as much in redistribution of wealth as anyone already on the GOP ticket. If you go to his roadmap website, you see that he believes Medicare/Medicaid are “critical” programs that need saving. He refers to Social Security as an “important retirement program.” He says nothing about ending the U.S. Department of Education, among other unconstitutional monstrosities.
Ryan believes in these programs (and scores of others) because he’s a socialist. So why do you think we need yet ANOTHER Republican socialist in the race?
A conservative is going to vote for a Mitt. 4 more years of BO and we will have nothing to conserve.

(I’m new to freerepublic commenting and got confused! Again, my apologies!)
I am sure there are some conservative teachers and didn’t mean to generalize. But here is an example: I have a good friend who just retired after 32 years of teaching in a conservative Ohio city. I have known her for 30 years and she has always been a staunch Republican, with conservative social values, until now.......she has sided with the unions and thus Obama. She voted against him in 08 but says he will get her vote this time. You see, it all comes down to what’s in it for “me”. Incidentally, we know quite a few firefighters and police who are in the same frame of mind. Obama is a vote whore and will win. He has intentionally divided America and could care less about the outcome, as long as he wins and continues the slide to socialism.
obama wasn’t running in 2010.
