Northridge was at 4:30 in the morning. Books were flying out of the bookcase near my bed and the case itself was banging hard against the wall. I’ll never forget waking from a sound sleep to that.
Look it up. You’ll find, depending on the level of activity, that zone affects much more than Mizzou, Arkansas and Illinois.

The Kaiser Permanente near my house, the parking lot collapsed, better to have happened in the early morning then during the day. Our chimney was destroyed, not like we ever used it anyway but still, it was a mess, broken dishes, a vase fell, it was crazy
Just found a 1.5’ crack in the drywall above one of the windows in our living room. Going to have to check things out closely in the morning.
That kind of damage can be fixed, just have to make sure there isn’t any gas leak and the water heater is bolted, that is the most important

So I am now learning about the Oklahoma Quaternary Fault Zone. Thank God there’s one USG agency - the USGS - that appeares to still do good work. Onumbnuts and Joe must not have filled any slots there yet.
That’s the first thing they tell us to do here in LA after we have a quake, a small one we don’t bother doing it but for a decent size one its always good to look. Just be on the lookout for any strange smells, if you smell anything suspicious, don’t light any matches, call the gas company immediately
Don’t forget the formation of Reelfoot Lake, I think in Tenn. A Grabben Fault opened up and dropped a piece of land at least 20 feet that was something like 5 miles by 20 miles long.
Just got back to Houston from OKC. Had flown up for the Texas Aggie game. Felt the quake big time, though it took us a few minutes to figure out what the heck was going on.
I gotta say, it was a total RUSH. Hope no one was injured/harmed, etc, but I would be untruthful if I didn’t say I enjoyed the experience. Just once. Don’t need it again.
