Yes we mustn’t forget Newt’s foibles. No one is talking about them now. His positives are seductive. My mother paid 5 dollars to vote for him in that Illinois straw poll.
I like him better than Perry and Romney though.
Newt’s got the adultery and divorce stuff. With this BS Cain is dealing with now I don’t think he wants to take on Newt’s baggage. Do no harm is the traditional cardinal rule of VP choices.
BTW the running mate will be chosen shortly before the convention, like always. There is no advantage for Cain or anyone to target a running mate now.
Reagan picked early in 1976, it didn’t help, though that may have had more to do with the choice being a fairly liberal Republican, either way I think it’s bad idea to pick a VP a year before the election.
