About 50 minutes before it was about to begin, PSU administrators canceled Joe Paterno's weekly news conference Tuesday.

Penn State administrators have canceled Joe Paterno's weekly news conference in which he was expected to field questions about a sex abuse scandal involving a former assistant coach.

Paterno's son Scott tells The Associated Press on Tuesday that the decision was made by President Graham Spanier's office.

Scott Paterno says his father was disappointed and was prepared to take questions about the scandal as well as the upcoming game against Nebraska.

Rocked by an alleged child sex abuse scandal, Penn State issued a statement late Monday saying that Paterno will only answer questions about football Tuesday during his regularly scheduled press conference.

I thought Ohio State was going to be the embarrassing part of the Big 10 this year with their “scandal” of turning a blind eye to free tattoos for some players.

Penn State makes OSU look like saints.

A WHOLE LOT of CYA going on right now at Pedophile State. Just watch, they are going to try and hang this whole thing on PATERNO, and force him out, rather than the Administration taking the heat.

I’d bet attorney phones are ringing off the hook in State College and Harrisburg today.

He holds a weekly talkshow with radio affiliates. I believe he’s contractually obligated to do that. I don’t see how he’ll be able to get out of that. And what about next week’s news conference? Do these bozos at the administration think it’s going die down between now and then? What about press day at whatever bowl they go to which could be a top bowl? They better plan on cancelling his radio show and news conferences for the rest of the year.

They’ll send him packing after he goes to another bowl game. Well, we know what matters to Pedophile State University.

Michael Mann needs to be canned for shoving his hockey stick up the world’s collective butt.

The university put out a statement yesterday that they wanted everyone to remember that this week/game was dedicated to the seniors and they didn't want the scandal to overshadow that celebration ...

Poor Joe. Retirement will kill him within a month. Just like it did Bear Bryant.

I believe he’s contractually obligated to do that.

Peanuts compared to the millions they will have to spend defending Spanier, Curley and Shultz.

There's plenty to go around: he said he knew about it years ago and went to the A. D. about it.....(question)why didn't he report it to the police(which he is legally and morally) bound to do?

Translation:
We want this to die as quickly as possible. Play along, or face the wrath of the gay liberal administration!

" Just watch, they are going to try and hang this whole thing on PATERNO, and force him out, rather than the Administration taking the heat."

I'm not sure how much you have read about this story. However, he had a grad assistant (McQuarry) who saw Sandusky actually sodomizing a boy in the shower. He went to his dad and the dad and him went to Joepa about it. The only thing Joepa did was tell the AD. He didn't tell the police or anyone else. It sounds like Sandusky's "punishment" was being told he couldn't bring boys into the facilities anymore. Huh????

Yeah, Joepa may not be legally responsible in any way since he reported it to someone in "higher authority". But seriously, do you think the athletic director at Penn State is higher up the chain than JoePa? Really? They wanted to keep Penn State out of the limelight on this one (IMO). Joepa should have went to the police. When the administration dropped the ball, Joepa should have pressed them and then told the cops. Yes, he may not be legally responsible, but he certainly has moral culpability.

I could be wrong, while I listen to it while I'm cooking dinner, I don't listen that closely... but I think he does a pre-recorded segment where he answers e mails. I believe that just started this year, because in the past he did do a half an hour or a full hour.

They can skate around this, but I'm sure the calls will be VERY interesting this week.

Yes, I'm sure he's very disappointed about not being able to field questions about what he knew and when he knew it. (sarc)
