At today's CNBC debate Texas Gov. Rick Perry was asked a question about his tax and spending plan but completely blew an otherwise strong answer by looking like a complete fool.
Perry was listing the three Cabinet agencies he wants to abolish and forgot the third one.
From the transcript:
Perry: And I will tell you, it is three agencies of government when i get there that are gone. Commerce, Education, and the what's the third one there? Let's see...Okay. Commerce, Education, and the "
Ron Paul: EPA?
Perry: EPA, there you go.
Moderator: Seriously -- is epa one you are talking about?
Perry: No, sir, no, sir. we are talking about the -- agencies of government -- EPA needs to be rebuilt. >>
Moderator: you can't -- you can't name the third one?
Perry: The third agency of government I would -- I would do away with Education, the -- >> Commerce...Commerce and, let's see. I can't. The third one, I can't. Sorry. Oops.
About 15 minutes later, Perry said "It was the Department of Energy that I was reaching for before."

Perry really can't think on his feet.
Unfortunately, the President NEEDS to be a great COMMUNICATOR.
It's clear that Perry ain't the one.
Unfortunately, the President NEEDS to be a great COMMUNICATOR.
________________________________________________
Obama’s presidency has lowered the bar. Kerry’s 57 states didn’t bump him out either.
Unfortunately, the media will keep giving him do overs, cause they want to keep the circus going for as log as they can... and if the clowns go home, they got nothing.
and never was.
I thought it was handled well, actually.
It was funny.
Obama has made far worse gaffes.
Ironically, it was the Dept. of Energy he was trying to remember.
I agree. This whole GOP nomination process has been a circus.
One, PT Barnum would be envious of.
My prediction: You will hear less about Herman Cain in the next week.
And A LOT more about Perry.
The Liberal media smells FRESH blood in Perry. He has just bumped Cain out of the top spot of “Take Out A GOP Candidate” list.
I’m sure Cain is thanking the good lord.
Perry is one of the few (if any) candidates who is confident enough to be able to laugh at himself. That’s laudable and human. A lapse in an otherwise very good debate performance. He can’t be counted out.
He did communicate well. He called us Heartless, thats what killed Perry.
Rick provided a huge favor the the SNL writers.
He remembered all three at the Local Legion Hall 4 months ago.
We are electing slick debaters. Almost like auditions to be actors.
Well, his wife encouraged him to run, saying she and others were seeing the “burning bush,” nobody seemed to realize it was actually a premonition of his campaign going down in flames.
I agree. He recovered well and if you take that moment out - he did really good, it was his best so far.
On the scales, Perry sucks at debating, but he has a record any of those other candidates on stage with him are probably envious of. You can't be 100% perfect, and I'll take a doer over a slick talker any day.
Investigator: Herman Cain innocent of sexual advances
http://www.cbsatlanta.com/story/16002149/investigator-herman-cain-innocent-of-sexual-advances
Are you posting this on every thread? This was a guy who listened to Cain’s voice and says that he is innocent.
I watched it and am not a Perry fan, but I though it was funny. I am still on the Cain train, but some laughs are good...we have all had brain farts, even R. Paul got a laugh....
Na... that’s conventional thinking... here’s what I’ll betcha on... they know Perry is out, sure they’ll keep him around for a few laughs, but Cain is still the Big Dog, and they gunna keep nipping at his heels and throwing dirt in the air to try to take him down. Remember when Perry first got in, and he was riding high? The media had begun trying to slime him but they didn’t have to work too hard cause Perry knocked himself out with his own left hook, which also knocked him so fuzzy, he couldn’t remember what the hell he’s doing up on stage... na, they’ll poke a Perry a little, but they’re going to keep after Cain.
Um, no. It is software that is 95% accurate, and is used in police work. I wouldn’t post the link so much, but it was yanked from Front Page News/Breaking News.
ATLANTA (CBS ATLANTA) -
Private investigator TJ Ward said presidential hopeful Herman Cain was not lying at a news conference on Tuesday in Phoenix.
Cain denied making any sexual actions towards Sharon Bialek and vowed to take a polygraph test if necessary to prove his innocence.
Cain has not taken a polygraph but Ward said he does have software that does something better.
Ward said the $15,000 software can detect lies in people’s voices.
CBS Atlanta’s Mike Paluska played Cain’s speech for Ward into the software and watched as it analyzed Cain’s every word.
If he is hiding something this thing would have spiked way down here,” said Ward. “He is being truthful, totally truthful. He is a man with integrity and he talked directly about not knowing any incident he is accused of.”
The software analyzes the stress level and other factors in your voice. During the speech, when Cain denied the claims, the lie detector read “low risk.” According to Ward, that means Cain is telling the truth.
During the section of Bialek’s news conference where she says, “He suddenly reached over put his hand on my leg under my skirt and reached for my genitals he also grabbed my head brought it towards his crotch.”
During the analysis of that section the software said “high risk statement.” Ward said that means she is not telling the truth about what happened.
“I don’t think she is fabricating her meetings,” said Ward. But, she is fabricating what transpired.”
Ward said nearly 70 law enforcement agencies nationwide use the voice software, including the Forsyth County Sheriff’s Office.
Ward said the technology is a scientific measure that law enforcement use as a tool to tell when someone is lying and that it has a 95 percent success rate.
After listening to Cain’s speech and analyzing it, Ward said there is no doubt, Cain is innocent.
“When he directly talks about the allegations against him there is no high risk,” said Ward. “It is low risk, which tells me he is being truthful in his conversations to the public.”

Perry is a good communicator in interviews and speeches, not just this type of sound bite format.
I don’t think the media will latch on to this too much. It’s simply a forgetful moment. Cain’s controversy involves SEX and that’s more interesting to the media.
And I thought debate 3 was bad for him.
Perry -
I think Americans just dont know sometimes which Mitt Romney theyre dealing with. Is it the Mitt Romney that was on the side of against the Second Amendment before he was for the Second Amendment? Was it was before he was before the social programs from the standpoint of he was for standing up for Roe versus Wade before he was against first Roe versus Wade? Him he was for Race to the Top. Hes for Obamacare and now hes against it. I mean, well wait until tomorrow and and and see which Mitt Romney were really talking to tonight.
I did not say the MSM would leave Cain alone forever.
But Perry has just provided them FRESH Blood. And Sharks go where the fresh blood is. Perry will be the meal of the week for the next week.
I am a trial lawyer and know when a jury is guffawing at the lawyer. He’s toast. Damn shame.
Perry is toast and he will be back at the $10,000.00 a month rental house that the Tax Payers of Texas provide for him before Christmas.
Go plug it in.
Come home to Texas, Rick. You’ve still got a job here.
What will Ricardo do with the mountain of cash that so many SMUCKS gave to this POS?
Any bets he will donate and back the piece of Mitt campaign?
Plus, Cain's the frontrunner.
That's what the DNC media lapdogs go after.
LMAO
Alice, you can wonder all you want to, but this hack Perry is finished. I’ve been watching politics for 50 years and this is as about as bad as it gets.
This is worse than Ford’s forgetting that Poland was a soviet satellite.
He may or may not be conservative, but he’s certainly not qualified now or in the future to be the President of the United States.
Not in a televised campaign debate.
It's one thing to mis-speak when you're on the road and surrounded by a gaggle of reporters asking off the cuff questions. I don't know any candidate who hasn't committed a gaffe under those circumstances.
But in a live debate, which you've no doubt spent considerable time preparing for? Disastrous. Even more-so, considering that he's goofed like this several times already in the debates.
I agree.
Gardasil.
Don't know if you noticed, but Perry has gone from 30% in the polls, to 8% during the time these debates have been going on.
I don't know what sort of miracle you're counting on, but it's highly unlikely that Perry is going to recover the sort of numbers he started out with, with performances like these.
The man simply cannot think on his feet, which is a vital skill for a world leader.
I cannot stand to see the slow moving train wreck that is the conservative movement.
I'll tune back i when it’s time to vote for ROMNEY.
I'll take my pleasure in seeing BO stomped into oblivion.
Sigh. Are there any declared candidates out there that aren’t damaged goods in some way?
This might be a good time for Sarah to reconsider.
???
You are right....The real Perry will be evident in who he endorses after he leaves. Bet you big money that will be Mitt.
Given who he supported in 2008, I’d say he’ll back Huntsman.
I saw it. I thought is was funny and well handled. I thought Perry looked fine when it happened.
I believe Rick Perry may have been under the influence of pain medication.
He has been treated for some back ailment and is taking pain meds for that, as has been reported.
His speech in Rhode Island reinforces that notion.
I voted for Perry and went to his rally with Sarah Palin.
I even suggested he would be the dark horse and take the nomination long ago.
I initially supported him and expected him to be the next president.
But knowing his weak stances on immigration, I felt he had the political acumen to walk them back and refocus as he did with Gardasil.
Instead he doubles down and insults the conservative base by calling them heartless.
That was the moment his campaign went down.
Tonight was just further evidence he does not possess sound judgment or a true conservative pedigree.
For those outside of Texas he vowed to sign a law preventing sanctuary cities in Texas. It never came to a vote. As governor, he has the authority to call a special session and have this put to a vote; unfortunately he does not have the stones to follow through.
Good riddance!
Rick Perry is excellent really, except when it comes to speaking. He’s got some issues there.
Cheers!
He’s done. Finished. Kaput. Mark the time, Scotty. Historic.
To save his campaign, no more debates, no more questions.
He should set up a 1-800 call in line so potential supporters can call in and listen to canned messages from Perry, complete with applause.
Limit his campaign stops to a quick wave and smile, then jump back on the bus and take off.
If the obamacommies at Business Insider say so, it must be so.
