Jerry Sandusky started The Second Mile to aid children; name was inspired by PSU players and sermon
Published: Thursday, March 31, 2011

EXCERPT

The nonprofit organization is now worth $9 million. It brought in $2.6 million in 2010.

In January, the organization received the go-ahead from the Centre County commissioners to apply for a $3 million state grant to pay for an $8.5 million learning center on 60 acres near the University Park Airport.

The proposed facility would eventually have housing for up to 100 children.

Its location won’t be far from the Brownson House, a recreation center that Sandusky’s father, Art, bought when Sandusky was 12.

The family moved into a top-floor apartment and turned the hall into a YMCA-type facility, where kids could hang out after school, “where their chances for getting into trouble were lessened considerably,” Sandusky wrote.

His father was a huge influence, he writes. And his experiences with the Brownson House, as described in his book, mirror many Second Mile services.

“The name came to me while I was talking with some of our football players in the locker room,” he wrote. “... I had just heard a sermon in church about going the extra mile ... And that’s when the name came to me.”

There is so much wrong with that graph...I dont know where to start.... :o

Yes....if JS was grooming, fondling, raping....then he learned it from somewhere....its no excuse of course... You have to wonder if there are clues in his book 'Touched'.... (just read an article at CSM that people have caused a big ol riot over at amazon because they are selling it on the site)

This is from Wiki on Gricar - take it for what its worth -

Gricar moved to State College, Pennsylvania around 1980, when his wife took a job at Pennsylvania State University ("Penn State").[3] He opted to become a stay-at-home dad to his young daughter following the move; however, when news spread that a prosecutor was living in the area, Centre County District Attorney David E. Grine offered Gricar an assistant position, which he accepted.[3] The DA position was vacated later that year when Grine became a judge, and Gricar ran for the open position; he won the election by a margin of 600 votes.[4]

A part-time job when he was first elected, Gricar successfully campaigned to make the Centre County DA job a full-time one in 1996.[4][5] He was re-elected as DA in 1989, 1993, 1997, and 2001.[4] During his tenure as DA, Gricar prosecuted the perpetrator of the 1996 Hetzel Union Building shooting at Penn State.[5][6] In 1998, Gricar declined to press charges against longtime Penn State assistant football coach Jerry Sandusky following allegations of sexual abuse;[7] but 13 years later, in 2011, Sandusky would be arrested and charged by the Pennsylvania Attorney General's office on multiple counts of child sexual abuse. In 2004, Gricar announced he would not run for re-election and would retire from both the DA job and as a practicing attorney in December 2005, shortly after his 60th birthday.[

Police and family members noted that the location where the vehicle was found – adjacent to two bridges over the Susquehanna River – bore some similarities to the location where the vehicle of Roy Gricar, Ray Gricar's older brother, was located before his body was found in the Great Miami River in Ohio in 1996.[10

In April 2009 Bellefonte police revealed that before his disappearance, Gricar used his home computer to perform internet searches on topics such as "how to wreck a hard drive", "how to fry a hard drive", and "water damage to a notebook computer".[14]
