Cain Defamation Lawyer Hired to Monitor Accusations
Reuters ^ | Thu Nov 10, 2011 6:17pm EST | Tabasum Zakaria

Herman Cain, who is seeking the Republican presidential nomination, has hired a high-profile defamation lawyer to keep an eye on the sexual harassment accusations made public by two women this week.

Atlanta attorney Lin Wood told Reuters Thursday he was not hired to scare, intimidate or threaten anyone from making statements, but to monitor the accusations against Cain and respond accordingly.

Wood, a top libel and defamation lawyer, was hired on Monday morning when it became clear that Sharon Bialek was about to become the first of four women alleging inappropriate behavior by Cain to go public with her accusations.

"I would certainly at some point and time give him my legal evaluation of whether any of these particular statements are potentially actionable," Wood said

Wood said he was retained by Cain and not by his campaign. He said he feels strongly about "guilt by accusation" cases. "I have seen how it has devastated the lives of other clients of mine and I would hate to see it happen to Mr. Cain."

As I commented early on this should be done!

Notice the media has shifted to Perry's brain dead moment over further reporting on the women accusing Cain. Penn State gave the media a better excuse to shift attention to.

You don’t hire Wood just to ‘monitor’. That’s like keeping a RPG under your bed for self-defense. I have a feeling, there will be some offensive plays before long.

I remember from the Tiger Woods incident it was revealed her rates were about $25K/day.

Yeah, that's right. I use RPGs to monitor compliance, by my neighbors, of my property rights. Anyone backs into my driveway in order to do an X-turn on my street, why, my RPG is right there, monitoring.

Did it occur to any of you that maybe Cain is worried about being sued for defamation. He and Block have blamed innocent people, naming names, falsifying meetings (anderson?) etc etc etc.

He’s the one with the defamation problem.

Cain should come out and make a strong statement against real sexual harrassment, and state that phony claims devalue the hurt caused by real victims. He represents the thousands of men and women who've been falsely accused, and come out for tort reform and loser pays in frivolous suits.

Go on the offensive.

Allred is on Hannity now. Allred is trying to justify why the woman stayed in the car with Cain after her charges of sexual attack and allowed him to drive her back home. Allred is really floundering here--ah she said the streets of DC were dangerous.

Allred just admitted she has collected over $250 Mil in company payouts on charges like this.[but this is not about a book deal or money]

Hannity asked why she had not taken on the Anita Broderick case with Free Republic mentioned in asking she do so...no answer from Allred.

Hannity did good tonight with Allred.

IMUS producer on directly after Allred saying Gloria Allred comes up to here on me like my wife [hand to chin sign].

By Whom Perry! I would live to get into the disclosure on that one. Obama and The Chicago Mob., Even more fun except there idea of disclosure is a tour of lake Michigan in cement shoes.

I have no doubt that Wood is exactly the junk yard dog that will keep the liars and mud slingers at bay. A new unfounded accusation will b met with a stiff lawsuit in a friendly Federal Venue in the South. I wouldn't be surprised that if a new press conference actually occurs it will be over shadowed by a proceeding in Federal Court.

Don't doubt it.

Actually I haven’t been posting until this evening.

I’ve been thinking today about after spending all my life interested in politics and the future of America, maybe it’s time to just move on to something else, like gardening.

The U.S is teetering on the precipice of total destruction.

The most dangerous man ever to inhabit the WH, intent on destroying the America I love...And what are the Tea Party,Conservs, and Repubs hell bent on doing?

Putting a known coreless , say whatever to get elected fraud in the WH, with a VP that is nothing more than a con-man, inexperience and unqualified. It is stomach churning. But if that is the tickic, I will NOT vote. I will not be a party to sending America over the cliff. At that point it will not matter who is in office we will be finished as the last best hope for the world.

I have three questions that perhaps the female FReepers can help me with:

I like to know why Bialek hugged a man who she now remembers as a sexual aggressor. Ladies, if a man tries to grope you and then you meet him again 14 years later, would you not maintain a physical separation from him?

And, if the point in meeting him was to ask if he “remembered what he did”, wouldn’t you ask that question loudly enough to perhaps embarrass him, rather than whisper it in his ear?

Finally, while I have no problem looking at well-endowed ladies, if you were going on national TV to discuss an allegation of gropery, how much cleavage would be appropriate to display?

Lin Wood, the Atlanta lawyer hired by Herman Cain to defend him against multiple sexual harassment accusations, is “the pit bull you have chained to a stake guarding your house.”

Added Wood, “I’ve been brought in to bring an element of fairness to the accusations being brought against Mr. Cain.”

Wood gained legal fame representing Jewell, the security guard suspected by law enforcement of being involved in the 1996 Centennial Park bombing, which led to two deaths. Jewell sued The Atlanta Journal-Constitution and other news media.

The libel suit against the AJC was dismissed by the trial court. An appeal by Jewell’s estate is pending.

Wood’s reputation, as a fierce and tenacious advocate in the courtroom and in front of TV klieg lights, has brought him a host of celebrity cases.

“He was pretty good at scaring CNN, NBC and the New York Post into quick settlements in the Jewell case,” said Atlanta lawyer Jack Martin, who originally represented Jewell during the criminal investigation. “I wouldn’t be surprised if he employs a scorched-earth policy here.

That observation came from Steve Sadow, another Atlanta lawyer, who calls Wood the “best libel/defamation lawyer in the country.”

Wood, 59, has the track record, working different sides of highly charged cases involving Richard Jewell, JonBenet Ramsey, Kobe Bryant and U.S. Rep. Gary Condit.

and all that is in the Atlantic Constipation Constitution

Now I understand why Allred was so off her game tonight on Hannity!

Bialek hugged a man..

I believe in watching this unfold that she may have wanted a Monica Lewinsky moment to set the stage--just as Hannity asked Allred why Bialek remained in the car with him after the alleged abuse instead of jumping out--there are cabs all over DC..Allred said DC was unsafe.

I had wanted Cain to do this a while back, but there are enough tapes out there. He needed to get down to business and work for those that are still confident in his leadership and pumping money into his campaign.

Cain is paying for this attorney himself. Allred was shaky tonight with Hannity and more upcoming "victim" interviews will have the media cautious, as these outlets have been sued by this lawyer before and rushed to settle.

Why sit back and possibly allow the media to manipulate or influence an election? This is just business! Whereas one's reputation is on the line and crucial to winning "the deal" ; in this case an election. Whether Cain would have won without this chaos..is impossible to tell.

Newt is suddenly looking a lot better to voters. He does have a political history of economic growth and a balanced budget. Plus he can handle the media, remains respectful and draws cheers. His past seems less important to voters now with Cain's trouble, Clinton, Edwards, Weiner, Jackson and Jackson Jr, Gore,_______________.
