Cain Defamation Lawyer Hired to Monitor Accusations

Herman Cain, who is seeking the Republican presidential nomination, has hired a high-profile defamation lawyer to keep an eye on the sexual harassment accusations made public by two women this week.

Atlanta attorney Lin Wood told Reuters Thursday he was not hired to scare, intimidate or threaten anyone from making statements, but to monitor the accusations against Cain and respond accordingly.

Wood, a top libel and defamation lawyer, was hired on Monday morning when it became clear that Sharon Bialek was about to become the first of four women alleging inappropriate behavior by Cain to go public with her accusations.

"I would certainly at some point and time give him my legal evaluation of whether any of these particular statements are potentially actionable," Wood said

Wood said he was retained by Cain and not by his campaign. He said he feels strongly about "guilt by accusation" cases. "I have seen how it has devastated the lives of other clients of mine and I would hate to see it happen to Mr. Cain."

“Did it occur to any of you that maybe Cain is worried about being sued for defamation. He and Block have blamed innocent people, naming names, falsifying meetings (anderson?) etc etc etc.

He’s the one with the defamation problem.”

It would seem so.

I had wanted Cain to do this a while back, but there are enough tapes out there. He needed to get down to business and work for those that are still confident in his leadership and pumping money into his campaign.

Cain is paying for this attorney himself. Allred was shaky tonight with Hannity and more upcoming "victim" interviews will have the media cautious, as these outlets have been sued by this lawyer before and rushed to settle.

Why sit back and possibly allow the media to manipulate or influence an election? This is just business! Whereas one's reputation is on the line and crucial to winning "the deal" ; in this case an election. Whether Cain would have won without this chaos..is impossible to tell.

Newt is suddenly looking a lot better to voters. He does have a political history of economic growth and a balanced budget. Plus he can handle the media, remains respectful and draws cheers. His past seems less important to voters now with Cain's trouble, Clinton, Edwards, Weiner, Jackson and Jackson Jr, Gore,_______________.

Not sure if this is just a chronically obnoxious poster, or something more. Posts lot's of this kind of crap on nearly every Cain thread.

Cuts & runs if there's any heat.

Speaking as a female who has been harrassed in the workplace, I would rather slap my harrasser than cuddle up next to them for a campaign photo.

I wouldn't be whispering anything in his ear.

If a person wants to be taken seriously, no cleavage is best; a "hint" of cleavage at most.

Go on the offensive.

He needs to file a lawsuit against both women, even if he doesn't think he can win. That, more than anything else will repair the damage he's suffered. He can probably drop it after the election. But those people need get bitten once in a while.

Court has its place.

Marty60..Cain is making more money faster than before and polls have Perry having a worse week with his brain freeze. Depends on the media coverage, and they have switched to trying to humiliate Perry.

Note they never have a problem with their pal Obama?

The Penn State case is a whole other and more serious matter and holds no comparison.

Gardening is less stressful. ;)

.... Notice the media has shifted to Perry's brain dead moment over further reporting on the women accusing Cain. Penn State gave the media a better excuse to shift attention to.

And Obama and his criminal minions are operating under the glide scope as a result.

Is he going to Scarborough fare? Those rare birds at MSLSD need a severe wing-clipping.

You don’t hire Wood just to ‘monitor’. That’s like keeping a RPG under your bed for self-defense. I have a feeling, there will be some offensive plays before long.

Agreed. Too high profile and expensive just to be sitting around observing. More like getting the ducks lined up.

Are you crazy? Do you looking to justify them playing "victim"?

No. Only if he is absolutely sure that he can win should he do anything, and then primarily against the enablers.

Good for him, glad he’s done that. This is Clarence Thomas all over again BS by the lame stream media. Wonder when Anita Hill’s going to try to join in?

Everybody hates lawyers............ until they need one.

Could it not be said that is because lawyers have created the environment where one is needed so much more now than say, 30 years ago, 20 years, even 10 years ago?

So that may be why this “press conference” they bandied about has not happened yet?

...his criminal minions are operating under the glide scope as a result.."

..and not getting the press coverage while investigations like with Holder continue, which is the media's fault! Lynne Cheney said that to CBS's Bob Schieffer in a recent interview. They control what they choose to report..

The Times and all their other outlets which include the Boston Globe, the Chicago Tribune, LA Times, 27 tv [mol] outlets are in bankrupcy [billions] and they still go to work every day and continue to put out their news--how's that work $$$?

Quite possibly.

Very hard to trot out ‘victims’, when a tough lawyer will search every hole and verify all facts, looking for a reason to rake them over coals.
