Rick Perry: On the Rebound and Ready to Put America Back to Work (and secure the Mexican border)
Fox News ^ | November 10, 2011 | Greta VanSusteren - On the Record

Posted on 11/11/2011 3:19:44 AM PST by Cincinatus' Wife

PERRY: Yes. You know, I said something at the Orlando debate that was arrogant. May have been because I thought I knew it all because I'd been the governor. As a matter of fact, my wife said, What you said was insulting.

.......And one thing I will promise the American people and -- is that within 12 months, within 12 months of my inaugural, that border will be secure and it will be shut down because we'll put the strategic fencing in place. We'll put the boots on the ground. We'll put the aviation assets in place. And that border will be shut down and secure within 12 months.

.........And to have a conversation about any of these issues until that border is secure is nothing more than an intellectual discussion. I'm not going to engage in those. I'm going to stay focused on the most important things the president of the United States is going to do, dealing with that border, is to secure it.

I know how to do it. I've been dealing with this for 10 years.....

VAN SUSTEREN: Do you do it simultaneously with developing some sort of immigration policy, whatever that may be, for the people who are here illegally in the United States, or do you this in one step, first secure the border, then we'll figure out what to do with that, or do you do it simultaneously?

PERRY: You do the border first. If you do not first secure the border, you're wasting your time. And that is my commitment to the American people. Within 12 months, that border will be shut down, the illegal activities will be stopped, and that border will be secure.....

Governor Perry is the only candidate running who WILL secure the border.

With in-state tuition vouchers.

If you don’t secure the border first, you are not only wasting your time, you are making the problem exponentially worse. To Perry campaign team: Call rewrite.

Thanks for all the posts, CW. The patron saint of hopeless causes has been invoked and seems to be listening.

Have you heard him talk about his friend Jan Brewer and the Arizona law? Perry was livid that the federal government thinks it has a right to tell a "sovereign state" (his words) how they should deal with a problem the Feds wont take care of and Texas is one of 8 states to join in legal defense of Arizona against the US Government.

Why are there only 8 states involved in this.

You see it's one thing to pander and tell people what they want to hear and another to back it up.

I don’t think Perry really wants the job... I think Anita does.

If only he could debate. Yes, it’s important.

In their attempts to make points by hitting on Gov. Perry, the other candidates have alienated the block of legal voters with Hispanic ties (many descendants from Hispanics who fought for Texas independence and others who have been Americans for decades) needed for a 2012 victory up and down the ballot. They’ve already compromised our chances of beating Obama. In the end (if there is a nominee other than Perry) when the general election votes are counted and the electoral college numbers are tallied, their gaffes on that will be much greater than Gov. Perry’s gaffe in the Michigan debate.

I liked his first debate answer...that a fence was absurd, and that he would “put the aviation assets on the ground”. Now he claims he supports a fence (yeah right), and at least he realizes that aviation assets are more effective in the air. Progress! Too bad he would melt like the Wicked Witch in any debate with Obama. But it was fun while it lasted, PerryBots! He was certainly entertaining. Now back to the Three Stooges on AMC.

Gov. Rick Perry has always supported strategic fencing in urban areas, always.

And Texas along with other states supported Arizona and Brewer with an amicus brief.

You are incorrect. Perry WILL seal the border.

I'm sure that Obama didn't say these things to La Raza:

Gov Rick Perry spoke to LaRaza about the drug cartels, shared responsibility of border security and that it is Washington's responsibility to secure the border -- that the Federal government should support the military, deliver the mail and secure the border -- and they aren't doing their job. [HE RECEIVED a lot of applause] He spoke of the money Texas spends securing the border, that it must be sealed and then we can sustain legitimate commerce...He told about protecting the sanctity of the vote and strengthening our shared values, family, faith, hard work -- they are TEXAS values and we should unite as citizen's of one Nation under God and concentrate on what unites us. He told his Cuervo joke and they found it funny unlike the Liberal Latino Leaders Give Perry Lukewarm Response (or more likely they'd heard it before)

Yes he is. And people know where Perry stands - for a secure border and no amnesty. No flipping like Romney.

Good point. If Rick does not make that point by the hour,
then there is only one other outcome:

Too late Jose. We know you are pandering only. You made your priorities clear in the first debates.

You oppose fence and e-verify and want to sponsor college for illegals. Then you call us racist and heartless not agreeing with you.

Border can be secured, but only with fence, and removing incentives like tuition discounts and easy ability to work.
