Cain: God convinced me to run for president
CBS News ^ | November 12, 2011 | Lindsey Boerma

ATLANTA, Ga. - Herman Cain, whose campaign could use some redemption in the wake of a sexual harassment scandal, told a crowd of young Republicans on Saturday that God convinced him to run for president and that he "prayed and prayed and prayed" about it.

The Republican contender made no mention of the allegations from former subordinates at the National Restaurant Association. But his comments here were accented with more than the usual references to his faith and his calling to politics.

"I prayed and prayed and prayed. I'm a man of faith, I had to do a lot of praying for this one, more praying than I'd ever done before in my life," Cain told a crowd of more than 100 at the Young Republican National Federation, an event hosted by the Georgia Young Republicans at the Westin Peachtree Plaza. "And when I finally realized that it was God saying that this is what I needed to do, I was like Moses: 'You've got the wrong man, Lord. Are you sure?'"

Once he made the decision to run, the former chief executive of Godfather's Pizza said, "I did not look back. And one of the misperceptions that some people have (is) that I'm not in this to win it. I'm in this to win it, or I wouldn't be in it! I'm not going anywhere!"

Cain has repeatedly said in recent days he will stay in the race in spite of the swirl of accusations that have tarnished his campaign and halted his upward momentum in national polls. Four women who worked at the NRA claim that Cain sexually harassed them, and one of them, Sharon Bialek of Chicago, said he roughly grabbed her in a parked car in 1997 and propositioned her for sex.

With a Republican debate focused on foreign policy on tap for Saturday evening, Cain talked about the need to replace a "foggy foreign policy" with a reincarnation of the Reagan doctrine of "peace through strength and clarity." He also said he would "stop giving money to our enemies."

The debate among the eight major Republican candidates is at 8 p.m. and is hosted by National Journal and CBS News.

The original story told of documents from the settlements. Cain talked about a woman he fired, which is a different story from the two whose names we know.

“He does speak in the 3rd person a lot.”

Is that a problem? At least he remembers what he’s talking about. And has campaign issues that follow the will of the American people. And doesn’t question the morality of the people he’s trying to get votes from.

Now I’ll bet that if a Presidential candidate did those kinda things that would certainly be a problem. Probably result in single digit polling. Now Cain, not doing those kinda things, enjoys poll-leading status.

And conservatives don’t seem to have a problem with that.

Sorry, I misunderstood your context.

We are all leaders in one way or another. Fathers, employees, group activities, etc... we all must show Godly attributes throughout our lives.

Leaders however should show a Spiritual strength that is exemplary in their lives (Both public and private). We pick who represents us so actions (Future actions verbally addressed on a campaign trail) should be judged more than words.

Obama verbally addressed and acted on a platform of promoting abortion on demand, yet he and many others who support him claim to be Christian. That is a road to severe consequences...

Sorry, "Leaders however..."

Should be "Civil, political, active duty, and religious leaders however..."

Just saying....

“Referring to yourself in the third person creates distance between “I” and “he.” So if you have an exaggerated view of how great you are, you could be using this distance to make yourself even bigger. Or, if you’ve achieved major success suddenly, using the third person could be a way to adjust to the bigger role that’s been assigned to you. It’s a way to enlarge yourself to fit that role.”

Esquire? You went to a gay men’s fashion site for psychological information to slag Cain with? And you wonder why people think Perry’s glee club is less than honest?

One can also say that it’s simply a manner of speech and that sometimes, Bill Clinton excepted, a cigar is just a cigar.

And BTW, Cain’s still leading.

If you would read the actual article, which I know most people don’t, you would see it is a quote from a psychology book.

Doesn’t matter. We’re down to Romney and Gingrich anyway.

Psych books call homosexuality normal too. Doesn’t make it so. You have a truth problem. You made the assertion that we are down to Newt/Romney. You said it unforced and of your own free will. That is a total end easily verified lie.

It is a fact that Herman Cain is currently leading the majority of the polls. Herman Cain has not withdrawn his candidacy, nor has Paul, Bachmann, Santorum, Huntsman or sadly, even Perry.

Now either have the decency to admit that you just flat out lied or admit you are a bitter Perry shill that has done everything in your power lately to falsely slag Cain with any number of incorrect and flat out bull$hi! charges.

FR has a policy against falsely and knowingly spreading pathetically obvious BS...like crap you just posted. I and a number of fellow freepers are sick to death of you fanatical Perryites slamming Cain with opinion given as fact, pure lies and the like. You are acting just like the PDS crowd did with Palin and it needs to stop. Now.

Yawn. I commented that speaking in the 3rd person is an ego thing. YOU’RE the one one who brought up homosexuality.

Guess what. Gingrich is a much better conservative than Herman Cain.

You’re a crybaby and a liar.

Esquire a gay magazine? Lol !!!! Here’s Esquire’s motto:

Beautiful Women, Men’s Fashion, Best Music, Drink Recipes - Esquire

It’s swamped with Victoria’s Secret ads, Sexiest Women on Earth, and mostly naked women.

What a maroon you are.

Your clear words are in your post above. Why do you lie? Do you think it makes you one of the cool kids? Speaking ‘truth’ to power and all that?

Bitter, bitter woman.

Esquire is a well known Fashion mag for Gay men. Fact. You went there for “information”. Fact. You lied about Newt/Romney. Fact. You have spent the last couple weeks or more slagging Cain and throwing crap like a liberal monkey at him. Fact.

There is a smell of ozone surrounding you.

Then explain how it is that Cain leads the polls, Bachmann, Santorum, Paul Huntsman and even Perry are still running when you CLEARLY SAID that we are down to Newt/Romney?

This is Bizzare! One of these things cannot be true!

Liar.

I am confuesd...you said we were down to Newt and Romney but this article clearly says otherwise. Is the NY Daily News lying or are you? They back up my statement. Hmmmm...

BTW, once that hay of yours comes out the other end of the horse, throw it somewhere besides at Herman Cain. And you might want to shovel more carefully in general because right now you’re covered in it.

Herman Cain leads as top GOP contender, edges out Mitt Romney, but needs to focus: pundits

It might be time to stop laughing at Herman Cain.

His presidential campaign, once considered a vanity project designed to sell copies of his new book, continues to chug along the tracks, refusing to be derailed by scandal or the lack of a well-organized staff.

Cain has a lead in a handful of national polls over the heavily favored Mitt Romney — and some political observers believe a once-unthinkable path to the Republican nomination could emerge for the charismatic former pizza CEO.
