Dan Rather: Newt dangerous as a wounded Wolverine
Washington Examiner ^ | November 14, 2011 | Charlie Spiering

Posted on 11/14/2011 11:44:28 AM PST by Bubba_Leroy

Don't underestimate Newt Gingrich, warns Dan Rather during an MSNBC roundtable discussion today.

"Anyone who has covered Newt Gingrich over the years knows better than to underestimate him," said Rather, referencing his political comeback. "Newt Gingrich on the move politically is as dangerous as a wounded wolverine."

Rather added that Jon Huntsman was the best candidate for the GOP in the 2012 general election, but would have a hard time winning the Republican primary.

You have to wonder at Rather’s choice of animal here. I wonder how often Dan interacts with wolverines.

Lt. Dan You have really stepped in it this time son.
Now you are from Texas? I don't think so Dan.
Wounded Wolverine?
Dan it's wounded rattle snake.
But wounded rattle snake more aptly describes your boy. You know the Kenyan boy wonder. The one who has NEVER worked a day in his life.

I suspect that Huntsman would be honored to receive Dan’s “blessing.”

People in Wharton, TX, moved Dan’s boyhood home to their museum. I think it’s in Ron Paul’s district.

I don’t think Newton will be nominated or elected, but if he is the winner, I predict he turns left by February 2013.

That was a good one.
I remember his 'His chances are slim and none, and slim just rode out of town on his horse'...
I figure he must have always kept a whole list of 'folksy anecdotes' in his pocket...

Dear Dan,

If you are not civil to Newt, I'll tell some of my old CBS stories, right here on FR.

Remember Saigon, you and Morley? Remember the stories you wrote in your books? Remember the PAID speech you gave for the Houston area Dems, the one you gave to help your daughter running for office. Remember how angry the Suits at Black Rock were for that?

Remember... oh, a whole bunch of things....

I do.

Just to show you what an ass, and horrible journalist he is, On June 2, 1988, Rather hosted a CBS News special, The Wall Within. In it, he interviewed six former servicemen, each of whom said he had witnessed horrible acts in Vietnam. Two of the men said that they had killed civilians, and two others said that they had seen friends die. Each talked about the effects the war had upon their lives – including depression, unemployment, drug use and homelessness.

Did Rather check or verify any of this. Of course not.

In their book Stolen Valor: How the Vietnam Generation Was Robbed of its Heroes and its History, authors B. G. Burkett and Glenna Whitley said they had obtained the service records of all six men, documenting where each was stationed during the Vietnam War.

According to the records, the authors said, only one of the men was actually in Vietnam; he claimed to have been a 16-year-old Navy SEAL but, said Burkett and Whitley, the records listed him as an equipment repairer.

Typical Rather.
