Bullet hits White House Window

The Secret Service is investigating how a bullet hit an exterior window of the White House. A round was stopped by ballistic glass behind the historic exterior glass. The Secret Service also tells News4 that one additional round was also found on the exterior of the White House.

The investigation started after an incident on Friday night where gunshots were heard near the White House. Police have since been searching for a suspect in that case, 21 year old Oscar Ortega Hernandez .

At my firm, we refer to ‘interior windows’ as borrow lites. I guess it’s an Architect thingy. However, we never refer to a window being exterior. It’s simply a window.

It sounds in this case as though there are the original windows of the White House building, and a hidden inner set of windows made from ballistic glass. The two-layer arrangement is so the exterior of the building retains its historical appearance while still maintaining protection for the President. I have something vaguely similar in my office, where there’s an exterior mirrored glass “wall”, and inside are some regular sash windows (this is India, and apparently they don’t really have the whole modern office building thing down just yet).

The White House has two sets of windows. “Original” single-pane at the exterior and high level ballistic glass at the interior.

It's quite close to the street and too easy for some nuts to roll up and spray it with auto fire.
