A former child-abuse victim himself, former football grad assistant Matt Paknis believes Joe Paterno knew about Jerry Sanduskys alleged sexual abuse against children years ago.
Paknis joined WFANs Mike Francesa on Tuesday to talk about his time at Penn State.
Paknis was a graduate assistant on the Nittany Lions football staff in 1987 and 1988. He says Sandusky exhibited questionable behavior towards the players back then.

The ones who are responsible for the condition that Penn State is in is the Administration and the coaching staff, they did this to the students.
Penn State needs to face reality, that their presence as a football team with most of those same coaches who were on the staff when Sandusky was and after, are simply telling the public, WE ARE PENN STATE and you can't do anything about it.
Well, we will see what the American People will do with a university that protects pedophiles and it won't be 'lynching' it will be justice, a justice that Penn State, refused to administer because it was too interested in winning football games.
Very odd indeed.
I see. So then someone let Joe P. know all hell was going to break loose, and he transferred his half mil house to his wife last summer.
Thanks for helping me catch up.
PSU coaching staff is very small and relies heavily on Grad Assts. Seems like other universities football coaching staffs are much, much larger.
Kind of like blaming a parish for a bad priest. Doesn't make any sense.
Yep. Like we found the other day...Paterno knew something all along...how could he not???? And he is connected to others who knew....etc...
Right behind his back yard.
Hopefully his new residence will be the OTHER pen.....
I’m wondering how long Sandusky has lived there, with an elementary school right behind his house. If anyone at PSU knew where Sandusky lived and if so, why they still remained quiet. How in HADES can Sandusky be out on bail when he lives right next to an elementary school?!
Out on bail with no circumstances....ugh!
No, just let them transfer to other schools.
FYI - When you click on the title on the SVU website....the episode won't play....
Which in this case, is 100% true.
Maybe this is just stating the obvious but I think PSU is guilty as hell and from top to bottom. The reason why I think that is McQueary. He testified under oath to the GJ what he saw and then told Paterno about it. If McQueary made the whole thing up he’s
- Liable for perjury.
- Has screwed his chance of ever working anywhere ever again.
- Betrayed a close friend of his father’s as well as all his superiors at PSU.
And why would he do all that? As far as we know he’s standing by his testimony.
In the Duke Lacrosse case it was the victim herself, who was mentally unbalanced and had a criminal record as long as your arm (and is currently in the pokey for murder) that was the only one saying something happened. She had means, motive and opportunity to make something up.
McQueary on the other hand had every motive to keep his yap shut but he didn’t. Say what you want about him not having the testicular fortitude to stop the rape - that’s fine. But to believe that he made everything up - that’s asking a lot.
There you have it, and chances are he knew also. Penn State found themselves in an insulated, Paterno worshiping cult of personality.
That whole thing last Saturday was a huge PR exercise. Kneeling on the field, moment of silence for the victums, what a load of crap. It was orchestrated to show a national audience “look at how contrite and concerned we are, we really, really care, see...” It was a PR stunt to get sympathy for and to launch a re-worship of Paterno. What a total load of BS.
In the Duke Lacrosse Frame, not only did you have a lying accuser, but you also had a District Attorney, University Administration, and the Durham Police Department that conspired in an attempted lynching.
“Seems the kids on the team now had nothing to do with any of this....”
Yeah, I get your point but the fact remains, they carry the Penn State brand, and if you think that the current football team will get a pass, you are living in a dream world.
The thing to do is to let the freshmen, sophmores and juniors transfer, kill the football program for a couple of years, fire the whole stinking staff, bring in a “name” coach and start over.
Sorry, any injustice to the players, pales in comparison to the injustice done to those kids.
True enough - but there was only one witness and that witness had severe credibility problems. Here there really are multiple witnesses and if you take McQueary - I think he had way more reasons to deny or to coverup than he did to say what he said. Which to me says that this is NOT the Duke Lacrosse case.
K. C. Johnson, one of the foremost authorities on the DukeLax Frame wrote this about the differences.

Duke & Penn State
Nice link and thanks for that - but to be clear - Johnson is contrasting the response in each case *by the university* and the longterm effects *on the university*. My comments are more along the lines of why one was a Kangaroo court up against 3 innocent lacrosse players while the other looks (from where I sit) to be a carefully considered indictment backed up my various and credible evidence that I think will hold up over time.
I agree. The Penn State looks like the real deal. And the coverup will be the biggest scandal of all.
Like it or not, the current football team, (the entire current program) falls under collateral damage. They carry the brand, innocent and all and that is not a stigma that they can overcome, no matter what good intentions. Call it bad luck, whatever but a new start must be made. There is nothing that the current team can do, say or think that will change the perception. Hard, but there you are.

Nobody “thinks” that the “kids” on the field are responsible, but perception is real. As noted, at this point they are Penn State, they represent Penn State, and while you and I might understand the difference, that is an albatross they will carry forever. Who in their right mind as a football player wants to stay at Penn State now?
We know that even the prospects are running away as fast as they can, and nobody with an ounce of sense wants to be associated if they can opt out.
When was JoePa called to testify before the grand jury? Last summer, wasn’t it?
and he testified to the Grand Jury about a year ago.
If anyone else needs a history/timeline of this investigation, I found this:
“I predict that this case is going to become a new version of the Kennedy Assassination controversy...”
You do realize you’re predicting its tentacles then reach at least to Capitol Hill...if not the Oval Office?
look at the dates...
Weird how that aspect of the scandal has sort of dried up already.

Any since 1999 when Sandusky resigned?
