Village Voice ^ | 11/17/11 | Steven Thrasher

Posted on 11/17/2011 3:07:10 AM PST by M. Thatcher

Today is November 17, the two month anniversary since Occupy Wall Street began. Protestors have declared today to be an International Day of Action, calling for people to "occupy their block," to "shut down Wall Street" starting at 7:00 AM, and to "occupy the subway" starting at 3:00 PM. We have been hearing that protestors, and the NYPD, will be amassing all over the city today, and will be live blogging dispatches from our own Village Voice staff writers Rosie Gray (@_rosiegray) and Nick Pinto (@macfathom), as well as photographer C.S. Muncy (@CSMuncyPhoto), who are on the scene through out lower Manhattan.

5:15 AM: From the anchor desk here in downtown Brooklyn, we hear a helicopter that sounds like it is heading towards Manhattan. Nick sends two pictures: this one appears to be on an NYPD roll call, just north of the Wall Street bull:

“Marchers are going in circles. They keep doubling back on themselves.”

That’s necessary for them to shove their heads up their asses.

According to messages on the side the goal is to overtake the stock exchange and prevent the bell from ringing. Then they will make some grand speech about it now being the liberty bell and ring it themselves. I don’t see that happening.

If they do that, there’ll be a huge backlash. Firebomb a Macy’s parade float, and anyone looking seedy and hippyish will have policemen shadowing them everywhere they go for the next year or two.

Unless they have changed in recent years, the NY Stock Exchange has NO security. I feel for them today.

The enemy is within ...

Look for the NYPD to prevent any of that from happening.

William Street, duh. No police presence. Lots of goofy shouting and sloganeering. No defined crowd organization. There were 4 hippies holding a banner at the head of about 200. That’s the extent of their organization.

As I said, some posters forget that there is what I call “a new silent majority” out there who has lost their patience with such protests and protesters of OWS.

Very low muster: That birds eye video feed shows what may not even be a hundred marchers.

You really have to give the Unions credit on this. After looting their accounts in order to provide political support for the dems, they needed a creative way to grift the taxpayers for replacement funds. Organizing these “occupy” events and the overtime pay associated with them, is filling those coffers quite nicely. The best part is most of America is concentrating on the dirty hippies, not the exorbitant overtime price tag of police, city and sanitation workers.
