Gingrich: The phony intellectual
washingtonpost.com ^ | 11/17/2011 | Jennifer Rubin

And there is Gingrich the liberal. “The liberal revulsion toward him obscured how unorthodox — occasionally, how liberal — his conservatism was. The books then and now are full of heresy. He showed a willingness to criticize other Republicans, even Reagan at the height of his popularity. He advocated a health tax on alcohol to discourage drinking — social engineering, it’s called — and imagined government-issued credit cards that would allow citizens to order goods and services directly from the feds. He thought the government should run nutritional programs at grocery stores and give away some foodstuffs free. He was pushing cuts in the defense budget in 1984 and a prototype of President Obama’s cash-for-clunkers program in 1995.”What is noteworthy is not only how liberal are his prescriptions, but how mundanely statist they are.

The phony intellectual

Newt is way more smarter than the author. :)

I will not vote for Gingrich under any circumstance. Might as well vote for a demrat and be done with it. Ditto for Perry and Romney. All differtent sides of the same RINO coin.

Since you are unable to see differences between candidates (by your own admission) then I understand your dilemma. You should not be voting.

So much hate on FR, one wonders how conservatism will ever survive!? With Obama, he constantly throws people in his party under his bus, but they happily support him. We see difference and we throw our candidates under the bus...but we end up getting a flat tire and it’s only Romney and Obama left for the races.

It’s sad. The hate and zealotry.

I’m curious, wht do you conclude I see no differences in candidates? I wasn’t aware there are only three candidates running as conservatives.

Frankly, I have not seen much hate on FR. Stating facts, now, during primaries is better than after nomination. Vetting is good. It will make the candidates tougher for the brutal fight coming up later against the $1,000,000,000 Obama machine.

Why can't you put a disclaimer in the title so that you distance yourself as a Conservative from the ENEMY MEDIA?

Is that really necessary here on FR? 99.99% of us already know that.

I suggested it because, when you look on the right-hand column under breaking news, was the simple text of the headline saying: Gingrich: The phony intellectual

I just hope that we do not, even if inadvertently, carry water for the ENEMY MEDIA, even in using their headlines - everything they say needs to be clearly denigrated.

>If NEWTIE gets the nomination we are screwed with another 4 years of the Kenyan buffoon.<

I honestly think at this point that we will end up with another 4 years of obama anyway. Paul is making a strong bid on Iowa as is Newt.

If Paul does not get the bid, he may run as a 3rd party taking GOP votes with him.

If he gets the nod, I doubt that he will get the votes to take out Obama anyway.

He is far too conservative for the independents and more than half of even the freepers think he is nuts.

The media played us well ... AGAIN

When I posted that article, I changed the heading to be more simple. I think the mods changed it to actual headline from the article itself.

I disagree. More of what is said is opinion and nothing more. And often it’s more against our conservative candidates and less often against Romney. Vetting is a matter of more than just opinion, it’s reviewed and held to a higher standard...otherwise is just part of the propaganda machine. Things like that should be done months/years ahead of time...unfortunately conservative have yet to commit to something like that.

We’ve left it up to the media and this sort of couch critic behavior.

It’s not a matter of being a “conservative futurist,” of which there is no such thing.

I’m not going to go over many threads because I do have a life other than FR. Such as flying a helicopter in a few hours and a girl. But if you look at this thread and the reply that’s 24...you’ll find that many people are just hating on Newt, but historically speaking his statement (24) is much closer to the truth.

Your’s a glass half-empty sort.

Not as a rule...i'm just somewhat disappointed by the current selection. I'd like to see them more focused and on point with how they're going to get us turned around, that's all.I cannot under any circumstances support Romney,Bachmann's just not strong enough..i'm paying more attention to Cain and Newt than anyone else...but I also like much of what Perry has to say.Too bad we can't just take what we like from each candidate nd put them together into one SUPER candidate.LOL
But,since we can't i'll just continue to listen to each one and see who has the best chance of kicking 0bama to the curb.

Serial adulterer??

Newt got married at the age of 19. After 18 years he was divorced and remarried. Then after 19 years got divorced and remarried.

Question.. Would two women put up with an serial adulterer for 18 or 19 years?
