A moment of curiosity led three Oklahoma City girls through a normally locked school door into an elevator shaft where they were nearly crushed, the girls said Thursday.
At first, when the elevator was coming down, I thought I was really going to die. After it smashed me, I realized we were going to be OK, but I was in a lot of pain.
Oklahoma City Superintendent Karl Springer said the door to the older, lift-style elevator at Classen School of Advanced Studies shouldn't have been open or unlocked Tuesday when the girls were trapped around 11 a.m. The door was apparently slightly ajar and wasn't closing properly, Springer said.
A work order that would have fixed the problem was on file, but hadn't been completed. Springer said a third-party contractor will be looking at the elevator as well as the district's work order process to determine what went wrong.

Not to worry.
Public school officials are on the lookout night and day for plastic spoons, squirt guns, and other implements that can hurt your children.
And so goes the world of those with “education” degrees.
A more wretched hive of scum and villany does not exist. (Apologies to G Lucas)
And why were these girls trying to go through a door in an out-of-the-way part of school? Just askin’...
C’mon...weren’t you ever curious about the off-limits and out-of-the-way parts of your school? They were always mysterious to us, like a hidden room in a home you could never get to. Natural curiosity.
beware the bus
I mean, after all, they walk into elevator shafts all the time and haven't had any problems before this.
It is a good thing it didn’t end like this movie when Jack was trapped beneath an elevator.
But I am sure they have taken care to teach them how to put condoms on bananas
Cute girls. If I were about 45 years younger I’d have a crush on them too.
They look like future OWS participants.
'Out-of-the-way part of school'?? Is that an assumption of yours?
Better question is why the elevator was not inspected in 2010 and 2011?
Does the school also have a trash compactor/baler that the girls can explore?
At my high school backstage of the auditorium there was a small, locked door. Using one’s pen knife it could be unlocked.
Then you would skinny along pipes, there was no floor in the narrow space, about ten feet back.
Again using your pocket knife you would dig a small hole through the plaster wall.
It gave a fantastic view of the girl’s shower and locker room.
Not that I would know ...hehehe.
