A Pause in the Tebow Argument

To enjoy the conclusion of Thursday night’s Broncos-Jets game, you did not have to buy into the legend of Tim Tebow or care one whit about his religion or politics or the ridiculousness of the Tebowing craze. You didn’t even have to hate the Jets or detest the word “Sanchize,” although that would be a plus. Even without all of that, it was possible to sit back and marvel at how preposterous Tebow’s winning touchdown drive was, after 54 minutes of acting as if he had stumbled into a football game for the first time and decided to play quarterback.

Of course, to enjoy the conclusion of Thursday night’s Broncos-Jets game, you had to watch the first 54 minutes of two teams acting as if they had stumbled into a football game for the first time. But the ending was sublime, unless you’re a Jets fan, in which case we fear for the safety of your television screen.

Tebow has been lucky in many respects. One or two plays here and there and he could be 1-4 instead of 4-1 as a starter. But the bottom line is that he is 4-1. Part of the magic, I believe, is what Tebow brings to the game and to his teammates - hope (not the Obama hope). He is a leader who is making his teammates believe that a team with less talent than many other teams can actually win. He inspires them to give their all because he gives his all. Tim Tebow adds a dimension that can't be readily explained. He makes those around him better. That is a key to success, and I hope it continues.

Broncos outplayed the Jets the entire game. That was what I saw. I didnt see a guy who “stumbled into a game”. First play from scrimmage was a great pro level pass, they went on from there.

Tebow won, in my view, because at the end he was willing to do whatever it took to win. He wanted it more. the jets couldnt respond and were dazed by the intensity the broncos showed on the last drive.

I agree wholeheartedly with DFU. Tebow is a winner. Winners win with expertise, grace, luck and determination.

Tebow is a leader, his attitude has trickled down to the rest of the team. Denver’s defense has looked much better since he’s started, that’s not a coincidence.

You should hear Champ Bailey talk about Tebow. That guy has seen it all and done it all in this league. He talks about Tebow the same way you do.

I don't know what Tebow's long term future is, but he is a smart guy who will work his butt off to remedy his shortcomings.

All that said, it is Denver's defense that is winning games. They are keeping games close enough to win in "Tebow Time." Keep your eye on Von Miller, a rookie linebacker who is already playing like a Pro Bowler.

I'm just tickled pink to see the triple option play resurrected in the NFL. It adds so much depth to an offense and an additional 'Wow' factor to the game.
Of course, a team needs a QB who is a master at it with the tools to execute properly. Tebow has those tools.

Other than in the Detroit game, the defense has been great. Part of the reason is ball control by the offense.

Denver’s defense has looked much better since he’s started, that’s not a coincidence.

Defenses like a QB who doesn't make big mistakes that turn the ball over and can win the game on the last drive. It lets the defense know that their effort won't be wasted.

For 13 rounds, Jersy Joe Walcot pulverized Rocky Marciano but with one blow Rocky won. That is what Tebow is. A guy who never gives up no mater what.

Give Tebow a Percy Harvin, like he had at Florida, and he will become every bit as good as he was in college, he just needs some weapons around him.

To me, the two best parts of the game were when the Jets coach was just walking down the sidelines shaking his head after Tebow ran it in for a touchdown, as if he was saying to himself "Damned if we didn't just allow ourselves to be Tebowed". The second best part, was ALL the talking head know-it-alls on the panel picked the Jets to win, in the pregame show. And they seemed real sure of it.

I’ll give my take on Tebow’s praying and thanking his Lord and Savior Jesus Christ. He is not praying for a victory or thanking the Lord after a victory. God does not wear a particular team’s jersey on game day. He is praying for and giving thanks for the Lord giving him all his blessing. He prays so that he will be inspired, win or lose, to be the best he can be and cause his teammates to be the best they can be.

there is a reason the nfl doesnt run the option, the potential for a fumble/6 is way high. that almost happened last night. sooner or later it will happen to denver.
but i still think tebow is a winner.
